Um, OK... Anyone who wants to track any of Disney's "charity" auctions, go to the URL mentioned in their press release, then search by title of the auctions they mentioned in that release.

Well, I for one am anticipating ebays answer to this Disney Charity auction. But, Then again I won't hold my breath.

I don't want to give eBay any benefit of the doubt right now, but that Press Release could have been issued by some Disney publicity-seeking scum who just saw another way to capitalize on free publicity, scum that didn't even have a clue as to what AFA really is, and didn't contact eBay beforehand... I doubt it, but it's possible... If so, so much for the integrity of eBay's partners... And no, I've heard nothing from timesensitive, I have found in the past that timesensitive is often extremely sleepy, and has to rest for hours or days...

I see that the disney auction listings do not show the AFA highlight, and do not show in AFA only search, so they may technically NOT be participating. JUST MAKING FALSE CLAIMS OF DOING SO. I feel strongly that these listings should be terminated as in clear violation for claiming to be part of it.

If Disney wishes to run their own charitable promotion they certainly can, but they have no business claiming participation in any program without following the clearly defined rules.

Will also be watching, and asking, and complaining if they are not adjusted.

I tried to stay out of this, but not anymore. While many of your concerns are valid, the bottom line is that this program will unlikely be changed, so everyone has a choice to either do or not do. So many posters have emphasized that this is a burden on the seller. This is misleading. There's no clear cut line between "buyers" and "sellers", a buyer can become a seller anytime, and vise versa. I have been selling on eBay since 1998, and I too have listed a few AFA auctions. My friend, who has ALWAYS been a buyer just listed a few AFA auctions of her own. She will not begin to sell in regular auctions, and when the 100 days pass she will go back to being strictly a buyer. She is not the only one to step into the selling arena because of the AFA, I am sure. So, no, the "sellers" won't bear all of the costs, as some "buyers" have began to sell in these auctions as well.

Reality Check.

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/010919/law064_1.html

"Disney Auctions (www.disneyauctions.com), presented by eBay, is an online marketplace from Walt Disney Internet Group and eBay"

Disney Auctions has an agreement with eBay to host its auctions.
Disney Auctions is an eBay corporate partner.
Disney Auctions is not an eBay seller per se.
Disney auctions can be accessed from disneyauctions as well as eBay.

Disney Auctions has a separate agreement with eBay.Therefore Disney Auctions is not bound by the same user agreement or community member rules as community sellers. The wording of the Disney announcement makes it clear that Disney, as a separate corporate entity is donating this weeks sales to eBay for A$A. It does not say that Disney Auctions is an ebay seller who is participating in A$A. The fact that Disney Auctions has an ebay seller ID is incidental to the reality of the situation.

This is ***NOT*** an attempt to offer a commentary on the relationship between Disneyauctions and eBay, nor what disneyauctions or eBay should, or should not be being doing about A4A. Sometimes, right or wrong,,,,,, what is ....is.

annuta,

i think most if not all people were not referring to buyers in an 'us vs them' way. not as a group. if someone is selling something on ebay, they are the seller. if they're buying something, they're the buyer. that's all. at least that's what i meant

of course there are people who sell only, and buy only. probably most do both.

I contacted a number of A4A sellers whose ads required the buyer to pay the S&H. Most of them said they realized the error after they'd posted the auction, but that ebay was not allowing ANY of the normal procedures for revisions or add-ons.

Can you imagine the care with which some of these sellers will package your breakables if you don't "volunteer" to pay for the S&H??

What a mess...

Did anyone notice how ebay skewed the results of this weeks poll? It went from 75% to 23% users who said they would use other ways of donating in a very short time after the negitive news release about the AFA campain. Ebay should be ashamed.

SMW-

I truly don't understand the point of your post about Disney, please explain. My point is that either Disney is LYING, and shot off a press release that is misleading in what seems to be a typical Corporate publicity-seeking ambulance-chasing greedy response, OR Disney is participating in AFA under different terms than other sellers are, AND under a different PHILOSOPHY as expounded by eBay than other sellers are. The latter would be repugnant. I don't care what they say about their autonomy. AND, in that case, sellers who are not huge Corporate entities need to know where they stand with Meg, etc..., and this unequal treatment should be publicized. The first possibility is actually probable, since I just got off the phone with the person who wrote that publicity-grabbing crap, and she (as you can guess) knows NOTHING but what she was told, she doesn't even have an idea of what AFA IS. BUT, I made it a point to tell her that if this is in fact some "poetic license" by Disney, I expect them to CLARIFY it in the same manner they released the swill to begin with, or else (and I'm pretty good at "or elses"... Her response was that she would get back to me within an hour. Mine was that she better. Disney, eBay, ANYONE who uses any part of this tragedy in a devious, dishonest way to garner publicity or profit should be exposed as what they are.

And SMW? The following that you wrote (with all due respect) is simply wrong.

<<<The wording of the Disney announcement makes it clear that Disney, as a separate corporate entity is donating this weeks sales to eBay for A$A. It does not say that Disney Auctions is an ebay seller who is participating in A$A.>>>

The first line in the press release reads thusly-

<<<WHAT: Disney Auctions has joined eBay's "Auction for America" program. >>>

The word "joined" has a clear meaning.

It is a lot of self serving sanctimonious hornswoggle as far as I am concerned.

We are not particpating.

WHAT THE HELL!!

Can they do that? Their going to sway public opionion one way or another I guess.

I've been watching those numbers pretty close. There is no way they could have done that big of a turnaround in just a few short hours.

To think I USE to say I was proud to be a part of eBay. HRUMP!!!!!

SHAME ON YOU EBAY!

Look, the corporate self-promotion, the mindshare-grabbing, the grandstanding, and the blatant exploitation of our patriotism that come with this A4A venture will always be with us.

But is it also just barely possible that some here are more concerned with WHO gets the credit than with the fact that significant new money WILL be raised for charity?

thepacksratsattic said it!
"WHEN DOES IT BECOME 'More than enough'? How much is ACTUALLY needed to deal with disaster relief to the people who NEED it? "

I have been wondering about this myself. I know that they need resources and I am 100% supportive of doing what I can to help, but how much will be enough?
Nothing will bring back all of those innocent people, which is all their families want anyway.

And someone else said that the AFA are happening whether we agree or not and I understand that, but I think ebay CAN and SHOULD listen to its own sellers and TRY to turn some of this around.
I would like to see that little flag icon search taken off. You do not need a seperate search. Why take my potential customers away from me? The search feature really bugs me!

JOIN- To come together into close relationship as-

a. To form an alliance
b. To become a member of a group
c. To take part in a collective activity

eBay's criteria for "joining" AFA seem clear to me.

Since we are speaking on this subject has anyone else heard about the telethon that they are going to have for the victims it supposed to be on Friday and will be televised on all network channels and any other channels including cable that want it.

YES, Icyu, I want all the credit. It was me, NOT Al Gore, who created the Internet. I have already personally donated $200,000,000 (approximately 1/3 of my eBay sales last year). I handed it over in $1000 bills at my local United Way Office. I had to go to the bathroom, but when I came out, I noticed the officials there were all filling their Lamborghinis with my sacks of cash, presumably to rush to ground zero and locate the most needy victims. When I finish posting this, I will be calling all the major wire services and holding a press conference about my extreme selfless generosity. I have already made a campaign contribution of another $1,000,000 to Pataki so that I can put my arm around him.
