Here's what I think the two candidates boiled down to for me:
George W. Bush - Drunken driver, alleged cokehead and part of a family with a history of political and criminal corruption.
Al Gore - Unimaginative speaker (at least without his writers) and his wife Tipper was a leader in PMRC and wanted to further squash first amendment rights.
I consider Tipper Gore and the organization she led so offensive that I considered voting for Bush.
In the end, I voted for neither, trying to find a positive way to cast my vote, rather than taking the lesser of two evils.

Well all the talk about cashing in on his name. I don't see that of George Dubya. In fact I actually see man who has done a lot. And guess what if his Party were to shed some of that Grand Old imagery and magic. He might make a good President.
However timing is everything in history. And right now in American History we don't need the imagery and magic of the Grand Old Party. Heck the Democrats don't have all the answers either but they do support principles and practices that point in the right direction. At least in my opinion.
Short men are megalomaniacs. The Napoleonic complex is displayed by short men throughout society, right down to the short teenagers who vie to have the tallest compact four wheel drive truck. Watch those things, those trucks. The higher it's jacked up in the air, the shorter will be the driver.
The same carries through to the trucking industry. Pay attention. It won't be long before you see that those big Peterbilt trucks are most often driven by men who seldom can bump their heads.
Megalomania is a very dangerous thing in a politician. Throughout history this has been shown to be the case.

TRC, regarding Tipper... when she got involved in that anti-1st Amendment stuff mostly targeting music lyrics some years ago, I was horrified, if not disgusted. Lately though... has she still been active in that?
What I have heard a bit about regarding her that I found stunningly positive has been her personal involvement with issues of depression and homelessness. Recall a near-tragedy some years back when the Gores' son was hit by a car (does he show lingering effects even now? he's certainly not covered much by the media) and Tipper slid into guilt-induced depression bouts herself.
Evidently she's shaken some medication dependency off but has had quite a bit of courage in one particular incident... putting on a "dressed-down" disguise and in effect sneaking away from the Veep residence to one of the parks and sitting down to engage a depressed homeless woman in conversation, leading her to discussing her problems, taking her to a shelter, following up, and ultimately seeing the woman recovered and employed.
Can you imagine a "Republican type" holding office doing any such thing, caring personally and intensely like that? Perhaps Dubya's wife could... she seems more impressive than he does by far. But at any rate, my prior "attitude" about Tipper from the censorship campaign has modified quite a bit from seeing her newer motivations.

"A computer search showed that over the past five years stories have periodically surfaced chronicling the individual business antics of the president's sons -- each riding comfortably through life in the slipstream of his father's growing power and influence. "
