This will get fixed, I used to work for a bank and this is something that would also happen when people used the check card.

Normally pendings will fall off the day the money is actually transferred, but sometimes due to a computer glitchs they do not. My guess is tonight when the settlements go through the pendings will fall off. My account is also being affected right now and I am not worried one bit.

It will work itself out. Not to worry.

If it's the MERCHANT, I have to say this I've used my Wells Fargo Debit card at all the locations that are double posting on me right now, during the same time frame as the PayPal Debit Card & none of those charges double posted to my account.

I fired off an e-mail to PayPal w/ the facts & hope they will rectify soon....

I got hit twice with double charges this morning, called them and they fixed it in about 2 minutes. They say they did an upgrade and the system was not dumping the pending charges....They say you must call them for an instant credit. If you do not call it will take about 5 days to straighten itself up...

Well, it took less than two minutes on the phone with them and the funds were released and the money is back in my account finally.

No explaination, but atleast I got the money available now.

hcross,

It looks like there are two more peple talking to themselves or us, cause no one else here is listening to them.

I thought sure last night the thieving scoundrels at PayPal had given up and was returning everyones money since they had been busted right here on AW. Guess a few of the rascals did not get the word.

Coonr , It is scary how these companies will try and take advantage of you if they are not humiliated on a public forum like this.

I had charges that double posted too, but guess what? They were all credited back this morning without sending 20 emails and without calling. Marek explained it pretty good. I rarely write checks and use debit cards almost exclusively, I also have online banking and can see this happen everyday with the authorization and then a few days later when the charge is submitted. I also did the books at a hotel for a while, when someone came to stay and used cc/debit, the full stay was put on hold until checkout when the actual amount was billed, sometimes they still had the hold and the full bill on hold at the same time.

Hi all,

Due to a technical glitch with our debit card processor, debit card authorizations (a.k.a. Debit Card Purchase Pending line items) would not drop once a settlement was posted to the transaction log. This resulted in a temporary duplicate debit for our customers. We have fixed the problem. Customers should no longer see a duplicate transaction and all funds will be automatically restored to the account.

Customers should note that any remaining duplicate postings in their transaction history will be automatically dropped after 3 days. We realizes this ties up your funds artificially and thank you for your patience as we upgrade our systems.

Thank you for your patience.

Deamon, The way you are explaining this, it does indeed sound like a paypal problem. I just have one question. I still have over $70 missing from my account, and needed the money to pay my credit card payment this month. Since this is paypal's problem, are they going to reimburse me the $30 that I am going to be charged by my credit card company for a late fee? I didn't think so - so how about hurring things up - even if it means combing all of those accounts which have an activated debit card for double charges. I'm sure that doing this will take some time - but I don't have 3 days.

Sorry - spelled your name wrong - Damon. But my main concern is the fact that my payment is due today - and yet I still can't make payment, even though, technically I have the funds. And how much profit is paypal making off holding my money for this long???

Just a note to say that our account was fixed and all is well again today.

Thank you Damon for your posts concerning the issue.

We will continue to use our PP card as we have been.

Sometimes 'stuff'happens, this was just one of those times!

Sounded to me like he said it was the "Debit Card Processor" which would be a third party service.

How much do they make holding your $70.00, lets see.....

A.G. Edward Investments money market account was paying 3.09% Friday. PayPal is paying you 2.29 so that leave a difference of .8%. If they kept your $70.00 for a year that would be a whooping 56¢ or .0016¢ per day.

Hi,

Just some more information on the debit card issue...

We are continuing to work on the debit card duplicate hold issue. Engineering has estimated that this glitch will be fixed by Tuesday, September 25 10am PDT. At that time, all duplicate holds on funds will be automatically dropped. This problem occurred as a result of a system updgrade and all holds would naturally expire after 4 days. However, the engineering fix should speed up the dropping of duplicate holds. Additionally, this issue should not happen again as our system upgrade is complete.

>Additionally, this issue should not happen again as our system upgrade is complete.<

....and there you have it! You may now lay to rest all the rumors surrounding this issue.

PayPal is not running off the the islands with your 'hard earned' ebay funds.
Nor are they cashing in on the interest of your temporary missing cash.

One can only imagine the emails and phone calls they must have waded through in the last couple days. To even think for a moment they would purposely do something to generate that sort of response is beyond belief!

Sure, there is a small chance that the sky may indeed fall tomorrow, but I'm not gonna walk out the door lookin'for it!

I guess that could explain why I have been hit in the head so many times.......

How is paypal paying me anything? I don't get paid to use their services. I just have an account and a debit card. I don't have a premier account either. I have a totally free account (seeing as though I can't afford fees) as I do not normally accept credit cards. Please explain further what you are talking about too. I am not into the stock market. If I was, I probably wouldn't be on ebay as much as I am. And if there's a figure change on how much paypal is making off my money, let me know.

i'm glad someone brought this thread up to the top again.

coonr, i was really scratching my head when hcross posted (paraphrasing here), 'see? it was a system glitch after all, and you and i were the only ones who thought so,' since that's what i'd thought as well. so i read back and saw i hadn't associated your first post with your second one and had thought what you were saying was 'this is the way my online bank always does it (double-deducting), and it's how paypal has been doing it for a month or so.' it looks like that's what others thought, as well.

anyway, my apologies for the misunderstanding

and damon, thanks!

From wht I read the ATM/Debit card is a feature of the Premier and Business Accounts. If you supply your SSN all PayPal accounts pay money market rates.

I guess this is why I never accepted the debit card pay pal offered in the first place. 1.5% isn't enough to risk losing money with a company (not BANK folks) that ISN'T FDIC INSURED and breaks promises -over and over.

I electronically withdraw my money to my bank account and never send any auction payments with Pay Pal. The only reason that I still accept it because it is what the bidders like to use. I get my money in 2 days. I use my REAL BANK debit card for purchases. A nice, small, local bank that calls me back in 10 minutes without fail. Sometimes even on weekends.

Remember folks - this is the company (X.COM) that failed as being a bank -- why are you all surprised that they do not have the knowledge on how to properly act like a BANK? THEY AREN'T A BANK!!!!!

I have a personal account. Not a business account and not a premier account. The letter that was sent with the card specifically said that you were in no way obligated to sign up for a premier account. I do not earn the 1.5% for purchases. I do not earn any money on my account. There for about 2 weeks, paypal did give me the cashback on all of my transactions, but only as an incentive to sign up premier. But having a Premier account or Business account through Paypal was not a stipulation on holding a debit card through them.

If you are finding something that reads otherwise, please send the link, as I really have no idea where you read that.

I am sure you are correct on that...when the offer was made for the debit card - I immediately dismissed it - as I did when I cut up the card they tried to force on me (sent me in the mail without me applying or my permission).

Regardless, my other statements are correct. And if you thought the point I was making was about the cash back...then you missed the boat, sorry to say.

Nope, I never thought it did.

However, I am sure that someone will look up in the sky and swear that it is..........

Even with a couple 'bumps' in PayPals path, they are still no worse than some of the stupid errors two of our banks have pulled as of late.

(love that debit/charge card!)

>The sky did not fall in PP-Land.<

The sky may have not fallen in paypal land. But how do know that it didn't fall in someone elses? No one else on this board LOST money because this happened. I lost $30 more because the funds I needed to pay my credit card weren't where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there. Thirty bucks might not be too big a deal to any of you that are still hung up bashing those who got a little nervous. But when your monthly income is only around $500 at most, you might be a little nervous when 14% of your total monthly income came up missing. And because it came up missing, it is going to cost me another 6% of my monthly income. Yes, I think I have a good right to still be upset that this happened. I do realize that paypal is not a bank. I do not think of them as the most responsible money handlers. I knew this when I started my account. I knew this when I accepted the debit card. But I still have a right to complain about my losses.

So no, the sky has not fallen. And I will recover my 6% loss. I am happy that paypal has completed the updating of their systems, and this will not (knock on wood) happen again any time soon.

I am really getting sick of the subject. I'm going to check my email....... Talk to you guys again real soon when Paypal ultimately messes things up again.

mango: I DO feel bad for your loss!

It should not happen! However, it does...and foul-ups also happen with real, live, FDIC banks! Charles Keating has always been one of my real heros

My point all along with PP is that it should be used as a service for buying & selling beanies and videos and books, etc...AND NOTHING MORE!

When I read of folks transferring $10,000 into their accounts or other such bizarre wierdness, I wonder...

Sorry that your finances are so precarious! Been there! Please used a Credit U or a real bank & reserve PP for ONLY MOOLA YOU CAN AFFORD TO BE TIED UP FOR 3 MONTHS!

That's REALITY!
