I'm typing on the rebate right now, got a much needed upgrade (though I would have gotten a new computer even without it!)

Must be luck of the Irish. Mine has been lost in the mail twice!

They had to trace and reissue once and as of next Tuesday they will have to do it again!

We received $599.97!!! Due to the rounding off on our tax software, our estimated quarterly payments were underpayed by 25 cents x 4 for last year. So they took 1 cent for underpayment penalty and 2 cents for interest on the $1.00 underpayment!!!! We received a 3 page letter with explanations!!
What a farce.
The money is sitting around here, waiting for my husband to use it to fix up the car.

Sent my check off to http://www.giveforchange.com

I wasn't expecting the money, and although it sure would be nice to get a new pair of running shoes or a stereo system, I figure there are plenty of other people in the world who need it more than I.
Plus, "give for change" is matching all donations...

Which basically means that the charity of my choice gets $600 when I give them $300. Pretty sweet, if you ask me!

Rebate check ????

What rebate check all we got was a letter from the IRS saying according to there records we made under 40 thousand dollars last year and were not eligible to receive any rebate or refund..

so much for this being usefull to low income with large families..

It has nothing to do with how much money you made. If you used any of those credits, such as earned (I call it unearned income) income credit, you don't get a rebate. I was at the quick stop the other day and the cashier was complaining that she did not get one. She said she filed earned income credit, she got double back what she ever paid in to begin with, so I don't understand why she thinks she would have got the refund.

It's amazing to me that those who didn't pay into the system don't understand why they didn't get a rebate back. You had to pay to receive. Those who qualify for EIC etc. are already being given huge breaks over those of us who make too much for the special credits.

Our $600 was a nice surplus and is paying to upgrade our dying computer.(actually it is the video card that is dying) Tomorrow the good parts go to the local computer store and will, like Cinderella, be turned from a PII 400 in a P4 1.5 ghz. Pieces and parts left over from other systems might build a better system for hubbies sister. She is using a P90 with 24 mb ram.

Well I Just posted what the letter we got stated this may say to you it had nothing to do with what you made but to me it says if your at poverty level or lower you don't get a rebate

The only credit I am aware of that we get is itemized for land and school taxes on state taxes we make to much to get any credits

If you are at the "poverty" level, you most likely didn't pay any Federal taxes to begin with, or if you did, you recieved it all back in your refund. We paid/owed $3000 in Federal taxes last year. When we filed, we actually owed $35. The $600 rebate was appreciated here, I can tell you.

We paid about $10000 in taxes last year, we got back $5000 at tax time because my husband had accidentally filled out his taxes to take them out at a single rate, he has me and two kids as dependents. Our tax lady said that lots and lots of people do that on purpose, I guess they think it is better to get a huge amount at the end of the year rather than a little extra a month.

I don't understand the concept of eic, someone is rewarded for not making any money? They not only pay very little taxes, but get huge, huge refunds in the process. I know people who got what I got back and made less than $28000 a year.

I don't much understand the Credits either. We do try and get our withholding as close to the right amount though. I don't like getting bid refunds, because I need the money each month. I figure, why let the government have my money all year, interest free?

Some people are over withheld on purpose, and use it as a Savings account of sorts. Doing that never made much sense to use. I take a look at our withholding each quarter and look ahead to our income. Then I run the numbers, and adjust the amount they withhold if necessary. We can specify the exact amount that we want withheld each pay, so I can usually get pretty close. Last year we owed $35, which is about as close as you can get it. Our tax situation changes again this year as I lose another dependant. 2 down, 2 to go.

It was so nice we are doing it again this year , I was able to buy the suv of my dreams and pay off some major bills.

As an aside, I have sent out a ton of the wallpaper you sent me to people who wanted it. Many compliments to you I did not send your way. Heather
