Hello everyone,
An interesting discussion and very timely for me.
I seldom use reserves but eBay has been kinda goofy lately.
I have four items listed which have never been seen on eBay before, or anywhere else, for that matter. How do I know this? Well, my Mom and I made them ourselves.
I have no idea of their value or if anyone in the entire world even wants them. LOL!
The reserves reflect the cost of our materials and a very modest amount for our time. If they don't sell at least I will know what they're worth. Then I can either relist them or keep them.

I've been struggling with this for a long time, as a seller. The roadblock for me is deciding which causes the most buyer resistance, a high minimum or a lower minimum with a reserve. If I want at least $15.95 for my item, which way do I go? In a related question, which way am I willing to stick with if I have to re-list?
Right now I lean towards simply listing for a minimum of $15.95. The only argument I've heard in favor of the reserve is that after the auction the seller can deal with the highest bidder and negotiate a price. But if I need the $15.95 to make my profit, what is there to talk about? Would I instead play a game of listing for $9.95 with a reserve of $20, then admit to an inquiry that I'd really take $15.95?
