I think we got on the subject of the gas masks when I mentioned that gas masks and flags seem to be the only things selling. Yet, my personal feeling is that I don't believe it is moral. Why not allow the sale of photos of the twin towers? A postcard of the towers certainly doesn't have the potential to hurt anyone or profit off of fear. Isn't it just as tasteless? More so in my opinion. I don't understand E-Bay's priorities. I take that atatement back $$$$. Yes I do.
I agree with the last two posts. Perhaps their aren't enough buyers for the six million listings. Or perhaps the socio-economic class of the buyer that uses E-Bay to purchase items has been hit harder by this recession. Just a thought. Is their any data on demographics of the average E-Bay user? Age, class and income level?

Is there any data on the sales on ebay being down OTHER than ancedotal?
If sales are down right now, when did it start? How far down? Show me the data....and make it data on ebay not the internet in general or the economy in general.
This past summer has been the best one I have had since being on ebay. September both before and after the 11th was very good too. This month is just starting and I have a feeling it too will be good. Although there have been threads about "sales being down" all summer, this is no different than what is reported every couple of weeks here at AW. And everytime the threads about slow sales are posted there are plenty of posters who report just the opposite.
In truth, the general tone and atmosphere on these boards is pessimistic and gloomy. The question is...overall, are sales REALLY down and if so, by how much.

Perhaps it is the catagory that we sell in that has been hit the hardest, which is Antique and Art Furniture. I can only speak for myself and sales of my items. I have not sold anything since September 11. We have had some wonderful furniture for auction. In some cases, it doesn't even equal what I paid for the item. The reserve is never met, so there is no worry about selling the item for next to nothing. I saw a competitor list a inlaid diningroom set make of solid satinwood from the 1920's which only went up to $900.00. My wholesale price for a diningroom set, buffet and china cabinet would be more than that for such a fine set.
So, if you Do Not sell large ticket items, perhaps you are doing well. According to economy reports, large ticket items are down. Car sales are down by 15%. Even the beef industry is reporting losses because people are not going out to dinner. If you want data on the economy, go to http://www.dismal.com Charts and graphs are available. My husband seems to like this site.
I thought it was my imagination, I am so glad that someone else has the same problem as I have with my ebay sales. Like so many other ebay sellers I to am limiting what I am putting on. My sales have dropped down to nothing.

What does Safe Harbor have to do with how your sales are? I don't get the connection at all? I thought Safe Harbor was for fraud issues, etc?

Safeharbor is the only contact e-mail address that I have for E-Bay. Do you know of another contact e-mail address that deals with customer service issues?
