PATIENCE folks...

They'll have the site back up as soon as possible.

The service is run by an entrepreneuer, like you, not a large company. Give them a bit of time to address the issue and you'll find that they will have it corrected.

Can anyone advise on what to use for sniping?

Just a thought. The free UK sites are closing down as they cannot afford the hosting fees. Edited to add "They have no income to pay hosting fees"

I've switched over to bidnapper.com....3 freebies to get aquainted then a subscription...

No feedback yet on accuracy or reliablity....

Many folks also use eSnipe....

A little while ago someone on this board recommended auctionStealer.com
I've used them a couple of times with excellent results. It's free for the basic service. They charge for "guaranteed" snipes or if you want to be able to adjust the buffer.

Here's' the official registration information sourced from Network Solutions whois database.

The contact information, with the exception of the name, matches the information provided in the deleted post.

This information is public knowledge, officially recorded with Network Solutions during the registration of an internet domain...

I have tried to go there a couple times this evening and am getting a page that says there is no www.vrane.com

Another thread says the ebay boards says they went under. I hope not because I paid them to get my sales reporter.

Uggh

I haven't been able to find a listing for the phone number although it does resolve to Amherst MA, which makes sense since the logo on the web site says Amherst Robots...

No answer...

I'm getting all kinds of DNS errors in the last 6 or 8 hops on a reverseDNS to Vrane's IP....can't get any info on Harvardnet, which seems to be Vrane's webhost. It's IP resolves to Hosting.com, which is an Allegience telcom subsidiary and where I noticed a number of DNS errors. Interestingly, vrane does not show up in Hosting.com's domain database. I checked the raw code on the HarvardNet referring page and it reveals no clues.

At this point, it's hard to tell if it is a problem with Vrane's site itself or with the webhost (and I'm not positive Harvardnet is their webhost but it is listed as such on their registration)

I ran a duplicate scan on my own DNS and IP addresses and they resolve correctly to the webhost listed on my registration page. When attempting to access the DNS and IP of my web host directly, I get a "access forbidden" error....when attempting to access vrane's and their webhost, I get a "can't connect to server" error.

So I guess all that tells you what you already know....vrane's dead..*G*

BTW, if vrane is in the midst of a move (say after their web host terminated their account or some such disaster) it could take 72 hours for the domain to resolve to the new host's IP address...that means that the address "vrane.com" wouldn't be translated into the crytic numerical address that the internet understands..*G*...but it's been more than 72 hours now...

Sorry I couldn't be of more help...

That's helpful but discouraging news. I just paid them for 1,000 more Power Relister credits a few hours before no one could log in to their site. Still, I could use some of their tools (Easy Feedback) intermittently over the weekend when their site seemed semi-up, but haven't been able to get to their home page at all last night or today.

I'm an optimist and hope that these are merely problems with their new ISP. They've always given me good service in the past and have bounced back quickly from every change eBay has sprung upon us. Still, their fees are so reasonable that I fear they may not be up for long if they survive this outage.
I'm sending out all post-auction notices manually for the time being and spending hours waiting for the eBay sellers screen over my dial-up connection.

Does anyone know of another reasonably priced tool for relisting successfully completed eBay auctions? My business has used Power Relister with great success, and we couldn't possibly keep 40 to 50 auctions running at all times without something like it.

Most of my customers work around the clock to repair computer or network failures, regardless of the day or date....the systems are just too important to their businesses...

I'm not sure about the significance of an update today to their registration...

My understanding from my use of their sniping service is that a secondary server is used to send the snipes to eBay so it is possible that this secondary system is used for other services as well...

Hypothesizing, once the jobs are identified and processed on the primary server (the one that seems to be dead) they are then sent to the secondary server to await their date of processing...so, if the jobs were transferred before the main server went down, then the jobs would still be executed. The secondary server may be on a completely different web host or network that we just can't find...

Possible? Hmmm....but it might explain what you've noted...

Mysteries are mighty interesting, yes?? *G*

In this case very frustrating and costly also...

According to the registration information posted above, vrane changed info on Sept 23-2001, NOT TODAY.

Today was the last time www.register.com updated their database. So, all info on vrane is current as of today.

I was so impressed with the fact that even if they were down they would email little updates..

So what you are basically saying is your saying is . When you run your own business there is no time off . Well i am getting very discouraged , I wish in some sense that if the bussiness did go boom that someone sees there is a market for this and starts off were they left off . I really can see that many people used and hopfully will USE again there service . But i have to be honest , i will now look for other companies

Hay anyone know a good relisting company

seems at least in part i was right about it being a holiday

from vrane's site

October 9 12:51am
Eastern USA Time -0400
We have experienced our longest and most extensive outage since Friday Oct 5 2001. Because of the long weekend we were understaffed to immediately correct the problems as well as to post the problem to this page.

We have now traced the source of the problem of the new firewall software we have recently installed system wide. We have also implemented a workaround until we find the permanent solution. We will post a notice once we find the permanent solution
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have cause all of our customers

HOORAY! Everything I tried on the vrane site a few minutes ago seems to be working again. I relisted 20 auctions with an average relisting time of 3.17 seconds each.

I haven't seen anyone on this thread mention another service like theirs, and hope they stick around for a couple more years, at least.

Fortunately, I learned my lesson about Vrane about half a dozen hiccups ago.

I'm amazed that people still trust them with their auctions, after so many problems.

It only seems like a matter of time before they go "poof".

Hello, fellow Vrane commiseraters. I just checked the site so I could use some of the paid auto-mailers to bidders that are owed to me, but no dice. According to the screen, I have no auctions which ended in the past day, which is absolutely not correct. Vrane
BADLY needs some competition, and I wish I knew of a free/inexpensive program that could do some of the same things reliably.

To the poster who asked about software, as I noted above, I don't know of any, but I'm going to check freeware.com, shareware.com, and other sites for similar auction helping software. Somebody must have something out there, just waiting to be discovered.

Meanwhile, there is just too much at stake selling on ebay to trust our futures to vrane.

In the past, the vrane owner came to these boards in defense of his treatment of customers. I don't understand why he wouldn't try to set our minds at ease on these boards now, when this situation is a lot more critical to everybody that depends on vrane.

I'm off to shop for software.

It appears as if, during the outage, all of my snipe jobs continued to be processed, as bids did show up on eBay...(didn't win anything...wah!) so the explanation they gave about the firewall sounds logical....

But, at least I've found a couple of backup sites now to use in case this happens again...

I really feel for you sellers though....I'd be pissed...

Hello All

We are working on a compensation package for all our paying customers. Please stay tuned to the site status page.

We again apologize for the outage and thank you for your continued support.

We will not be posting on this thread anymore

Thanks

This board is riddled with conspiracy theorists, whiners, complainers and some that are just plain ignorant.

The intent of the above is not to offend, but to point out that many of the posts that are left on this message board are not of a constructive nature and work against the true intent of why this board is available for us. It is to HELP, ASSIST and GUIDE other members by providing accurate and useful information.

In a matter of a few days, many posted false rumors of Vrane's demise. Others attacked their business practice, yet only a few managed to include reason into their thinking and judgements regarding the outage situation.

Vrane experienced an outage, pure and simple. It was not an intentional act on the part of the provider to single out and harm any of the individual sellers on this board. It was a problem, which is in the process of being corrected. A part of everyday business, regardless of the industry you are in. It is clear from the post on the Vrane website that they would have gladly provided site status information to their customers, if they had the ability to do so.

I am not a friend or spokesperson for Vrane. I am a user who has found value in their service over the years. Their service is superior, both from a technology and economic perspective. Informed users are aware of this fact. I'm also a person who has come to appreciate and recognize the entrepreneuers that surround the online selling business, like Vrane. It is us that have made this business what it is today and we have an obligation to stick together and defend ourselves when attacked.

For those of you out there who can't uderstand or appreciate what I am writing about, I recommend that you use eBay's listing services. This way, you'll be able to whine about the eBay auction website and their listing services all on one breathe. Better yet, an auction user's whining board should be created so all of these mass unproductive temper tantroms can be displayed in another place, without crowding the usefull posts that can periodically be found on this board.

Constructive posts regarding this note are gladly welcomed. Whiners may inaugerate the new whining board to be formed with your further unproductive messages.

Good points....

Frustration can be infectious....

Since it is obvious from their post that one or more of the principals at Vrane monitors AW or was directed here, some constructive observations might be in order.

My take....small company, possibly only a couple of people, set up new computer systems, get them working, take well deserved weekend off without computer nearby (like when we go camping); software screws up, blocks access, customers scream, owners are oblivious to this until they return late Sunday night or sometime Monday; feverishly work to get fix in place....

The lack of notice on their announcement board for such a major outage until last night speaks volumes....

Vrane may be at the point where they need to set up some kind of customer support like AW has, with a support forum and timely e-mail response. I think it will be crucial to their growth.

IMO, they are great engineers and code writers....simple and effective tools......however, this great idea has now become a pretty good business and there are other details needing attention.

I wish to extend my personal thanks to the folks at Amherst Robots for making it possible for me to get a number of great deals on eBay which I would have been unable to attain easily otherwise. I hope to return the favor someday by becoming a paying customer.....

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming....

well for the most part we are back, I'm still not able to pull my list to relist but I'm sure that will be fixed soon enough. So I'm having this thread locked. My purpose of the post was not to bash Vrane I just wanted to find out if others were having the same problems we were.

Please lock it up.
