After this thread started, I contacted this seller via email and have been having a dialog with him about his TOS. I invited him to this thread so that he could post his opinions on the subject. He indicated that he read the thread and was going to respond but didn't want to sign up using his credit card as everytime he does, his spam level increases. I asked him if I could post the substance of one of his emails to me and he agreed. I didn't get approval from him to post the email until yesterday. The following was his response to my original email to him inviting him to this thread:
"I just checked it out. Finally got my 15 minutes of fame. I was going to
reply but found out I have to sign up. Every time I sign up on a website I
start getting more junk email. Not worth all that. It's amazing that so many
people have that much spare time.. to write about my item descriptions.
You know I get about 10 emails a week saying that they love what I have to
say, agree completely and in some cases ask if they can use part or all of
it. One person was right though, I really do get enough sales so that if it
offends the odd reputable buyer, though it is beyound me how a reputable
buyer could possibly be upset, it doesn't matter. When you get 20 or more
non payers a month it's absurd.
I've sold on ebay for almost 4 years. The first 2 years no problems. The
more ebay advertised the more jerks showed up. About a year ago it got so
silly I started my disclaimer. If one checks my feedback they can see I get
lots of repeat business. Ebay does not do enough to police either the
deadbeat bidders or the rip off sellers. I have actually seen ebayers with a
negative feedback number, such as (-2) after their names. I've also had
several people tell me via email that at least they know I'm not going to
rip them off because no one who's trying to con a buyer would say all of
that.
They don't seem to understand that I'm not angry, I just don't need the
extra hassles, I have bills to pay (I do this for a living) and need to know
how much money I have coming in. Ebay doesn't do squat about the problem so
what's a person to do. I also was in Shopping mall retail sales for several
years, ran a thrift store, sold at swap meets and collectible shows for
years. I doubt most if any of the people who are having problems with my
statements have any type of retail experience at all. They should expend
their email energies emailing ebay about cracking down on the problem. Of
course ebay doesn't want to do that the number of members is directly tied
to their stock value.
