I really can't figure out why anyone would be so cheap & then brag about it in a forum such as this. Imight have doen something like it, but No one would ever hear about it. Of course, we should have micmic66 figured out by now i.e. hiding his $$ from his wife.

"Is it unethical to see an ebay seller selling a valuable auction item at a very low starting price without a reserve in a very poor choice of auction category and misspelling of very keywords and not tell the seller?"

"What would you do if you found a $10 bill on the floor at church?"
The same thing if I found it on any floor, pick it up and spend it. Then I'd thank god for this small gift.
"I certainly hope that none of the above vote in the upcoming elections.
And if you were in my house thumbing through my Bible would you take $60 if you found it between the pages"
Why? Does it matter what piece of garbage gets elected. Are we supposed to have only moral dicatators be the one's voting? Would you put $60 in a bible in your house and let a stranger page through it alone unattended?

No I wouldn't as I would consider it yours. But it is highly unlikely that I would ever go through anything in another person's house to begin with.
Seriously, as far as the money in the book at the thrift shop? I doubt that the person that donated the book even knew that it was in there. I could trust the employees to do the right thing or I could use my own judgment, buy the book and then make sure that the money was put to a good cause. I believe in karma also.
Perhaps someone in the family that donated the book had a habit of storing money in all the books. Maybe others have money in them also.

You have to wonder who is voting:
Can you imagine working at the
following Company?
It has a little over 500 employees
with the following statistics:
*29 have been accused of spousal abuse
*7 have been arrested for fraud
*19 have been accused of writing bad checks
*117 have bankrupted at least two businesses
*3 have been arrested for assault
*71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
*14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
*8 have been arrested for shoplifting
*21 are current defendants in lawsuits
*In 1998 alone, 84 were stopped for drunk driving
Can you guess which company this may be? Give up?
It's the 535 members of your United States Congress

purchase smurchase. Should he had bought the book that day or could he have waited for another day to buy it? And does it have to be that book or another one? These moral issues are complicated!

The money was in THAT book. The "item" was marked $.??. By buying that book and paying the agreed upon price, the book and everything attached to it legally belongs to the purchaser.
This puts moral and ethics issues aside, which should not really be in question since it was at a thrift shop and the owner has long since been out of the picture.
Of course, that is just my opinion.

The money does not belong with that book. It's not like one of those books that come with a CDROM and it has to go with that book.
If you feel guilty that the store is getting ripped off somehow, buy something from the store. If you feel the owner of the $60 is getting ripped off, donate some money to the community; If you feel the owner acted carelessly and deserves to lose the money, go spend the money.
I don't feel there's a right or wrong way to handle the matter, just what you feel is the best thing to do and you give it some thought.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

He should've bought the book. Gregg Shorthand books are selling on ebay for about $5 so that would've been an extra few dollars of profit.

OK ALREADY!!!
The book was/is in the Salvation Army!!
I hope I didn't hurt thier bottom line by NOT buying the book and NOT handing over the 60 bones.

posted on October 4, 2002 04:22:09 PM new Ok this question is for the ones that said they would have bought the book and kept the money. Would you have removed the money BEFORE you took it to the cashier? I have many times seen them turn the book up and fan the pages.
posted on October 4, 2002 07:59:45 PM new
Exactly JACK!!!!!!!! So which pocket is the better pocket for it to land? The cashiers or yours? Because that is certainly where it would go. No way do they know who brought that particular book in so how could they give it back to the person who put it there?
I just don't think I could turn it over to the store. With all that "green" looking me in the face .......but I would have bought the book after I removed the "green".

Why not stick the $60.00 in your pocket and go back to the store? Buy $60.00 worth of books from them (after you do several days of research on closed Ebay book auctions). Bring the books home and list them. Why settle for $60.00? Parlay it into $600.00
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.
