But fluffythewondercat...
Unlike pornography, they don't know it when they see it. Sure, it "looks" obvious when it is real high (of course, define "real high" ), but you hear more conpmliants when the shipping charged was $4.00 and the stamp said $3.85. There is where you hear the loudest complaints of fee advoidance.
These people people complain so loudly when a eBay seller attempts to cover their expenses, but will probably gladly pay the $9.95 S&H for a Infomercial book to be sent media rate.

That could be. The difference is that when you buy on eBay, you've got a real live person just a few mouseclicks away that you can complain to. And if you don't get a properly subservient response, why, you can leave them the dreaded negative feedback.
There are very large sellers on eBay who simply ignore email complaints AND negative feedback. I'm coming around to their way of thinking.

One has to wonder what high s&h has to do with safe transactions... As MAH645 said, it really does depend on what you sell. Unique items can have a s&h structure that resembles actual shipping. But on mass merchandise the competition is heavy and one of the ways to get eyeballs to your item is with the low price, high s&h. Its just the reality of the situation...
The benefit to the seller is obviously the savings on fees. The example below is for an item with a total price of $19.99.
