I'm not a lawyer but I do live in Florida and I have rented real property (real estate) and I have been involved in an eviction. I have never heard anything about putting a lien on the contents of a building. The lessee if he is fighting eviction must put cash up front with the court in the amount of the rent and give a reason why he should not be evicted when it goes to court. If evicted the police will stand by while you or the landlord moves your property out of the building. In the event the landlord moves it he can't keep it but must deliver it to the curb. I think you are being fed a line and should go to the courthouse and see what is filed on the case. Of course bankruptcy may bring other things into play but I don't see what it has to do with an eviction. After eviction the landlord can put a lien against any real property you own and jewelry is not real property.

Thanks rozrr - I'll be taking my husband with me and believe me you don't want to deal with my husband when he's mad or you're messing with ME!!
getalife - I'm a former Apartment Manager myself and I know what you are talking about (except the police put the items out not the landlord-or at least with residential management). It's the lien part that is throwing me!
I believed what she was telling me and was just thinking that she was just getting bad advice herself until I caught her in a lie?
I still don't think she's trying to steal my stuff but I do think she's using it to her advantage somehow - just don't know how??

Ladyjewels, hope this works out for you. Your conversation with the policeman sounds promising.
If you don't get any satisfaction from the visit you plan I am sure you will get a lawyer. I understand your need to talk about this and, despite the title of this thread, I don't think you plan to go to court and tell the judge that your fellow eBayOutlookers told you what you did was legal.
That said I finally have to say something I have been holding back (and most likely should continue to do so) for some time. I am not a confrontational person and would never survive on the Round Table but I do need to say this. I really hope that the poster whose ID suggests (in a snide insult to the profession) that she is a teacher, never actually was. I was a teacher for almost 20 years and the idea of "teaching" with a supercilious attitude and sarcasm really gets to me. This is especially disturbing when the poster is obviously very knowledgeable about many of the subjects under discussion.

may be you dont have your cup of coffee yet,the teacher used to post under a different name.
as for landlord doing what they do when tenants dont pay rent, there was this gift shop in houston ,it sells fresh flowers and cards and tons of gifts from crystal figurines to beanie babies.
There was never much sales and i often wonder where did he find money to buy all these merchandise??
Anyway, one day ,the doors are locked with a notice posted ,the landlord is locking the whole place up with all that stuff inside,i dont remember the exact words ,but basicially it just said the contents inside the store will be auctioned off to pay for rent in arrear.
i doubt if all that stuff were paid for,so i dont know how it turns out.
If your friend filed for bankruptcy, how is her business incorporated??
In this case, the landlord may not be able to get the proceeds of merchandise liquidated in an auction if the titles are still with the suppliers!!

Stopwhining, I have had my coffee. I know who the poster you call "teacher" is purported to be. I was not bothered when I read her posts under the former ID. It was not an insult to the feline species as her present ID is to a entire profession.
