I'm betting the 23rd - the Thursday before Christmas. That way many people will pony up the extra fee (is it a dime or 20 cents now?) for a ten day listing.

I think it will be the 26th - that way ebay can end the year (12/31) with a ton of listings on the books.

Probably day after Xmas (as usual) on ebay.com, but ebay.co.uk has just had a very successful free fixed price listing day. We must have sold around £500 over the weekend alone so the UK market is still vibrant
Plus UK customers pay direct into our bank account = no PayPal or CC fees

Neglus has a point, but I think she's got part of it wrong. They don't want tons of LISTINGS on their books, they want tons of actual MONEY on their books... Therefore the FVF's have to be in by the end of the year.
More evidence to support my 23rd prediction.

Geez. I sure hope it's the 26th! I've got a ton of listings ready to launch on the 26th already, and I'll have to go in and change the dates if Ebay decides a different day. Crossing fingers, toes, hair strands, eyes. . . .

Agit - My listing from the UK day are keeping me hopping too. Don't forget that the UK siteusually does an early January regular free listing day too. Between the three I should be able to get rid of all of the bits and pieces that have been laying around and driving me nuts.
Hey - won any of the give aways? I never thought I would find myself not being able to think far enough out of the box but YIKES!! Have you read some of the clues to actual listing title journeys?

If you live in the U.S., how do you go about listing on UK Ebay?

Either sign in directly to the UK site or use a listing program like MarketWorks that services the UK site directly. Make sure you enter your country as United Kingdom.

fenix -- This is my 3rd attempt at ebay UK and the auctions haven't done well. Out of 5 listed, I sold 2 and both resided in the US. I still have auctions running, but I have a feeling that crochet patterns in the UK just aren't that sought after.

Bizzy
Are you setting your country as United Kingdom? If not you are not going to show up in the default searches.
Also, not sure about crocheting.... did you see where I mentioned that Cross Stitch is the most common search term in the their crafts catagory though?

Fenix: I have an elementary question. If you list your country as UK, how do you explain to a buyer that the item's coming from the US (with higher shipping)? And where exactly do you sign in and list your country as UK on Ebay's home page? Thanks.

I don't think day after Christmas this year, because Christmas is on Saturday and the FLD would be on Sunday. Not right to intrude on someone's Christmas and a Sunday if a FLD is announced in the middle of Chrismas Day. I'm going with the 23'rd, or more likely Dec. 27 or Dec. 28. I think this way that the number of listings looks good at year's end this way, AND they will get lots of FV fees on those auctions that end early with Buy it Now.

In 2002 and 2003 FLD was on 12/26.
In 1999 and 2001 FLD was on 12/20.
I wasn't able to find the date for the year 2000.
1999-Monday
2001 - Thursday
2002 - Thursday
2003 - Friday

I am banking on either the 22nd or 23rd. I don't think the 26th because it is Sunday and everyone should be off then and could list way too many listings. I could also see the 27th. That will be my third choice.

fenix03,
Thanks for reminding me about ebay.co.uk's early January FLD - always a great opportunity to clear out more junk. I should start getting listing ready to go soon as I usually leave them to the last minute or forget until afterwards, much to my regret.
Roadsmith,
As to listing as in the UK, see my answer to bizzycrocheting below.
bizzycrocheting,
There is a huge market in the UK for crochet patterns, but you must list your location as UK otherwise your listing don't show up. The standard ebay.co.uk search defaults to show ONLY items Located in UK. You need to adjust your item location to something like "LaLa Land, USA - we ship world." eBay UK has been promising to fix this for several years now

It being on a Sunday does bring up a very good point, I don't think it would be on a Sunday. My sales are way down right now, so I'm basically just working on listings for a later date. At least I'm able to get caught up on pictures and ads. I think I will do a bunch of baking next week and relax.

Stupid question...
You are all talking about listing the day after Xmas... Is this a big deal? Will people be buying a lot after Christmas? Should I be preparing for this?

Roadsmith - You set your country on the last page of sell process I think (I use MarketWorks so it's all automatic for me).
As for shipping costs....My shipping charges are actually right in line with other UK based sellers. Thats not an accident. Since I sell new items I specifically look for inventory that will allow me to stay in line with others in my catagories and still cover the costs. Luckily the other sellers had built a profit margin into their shipping that ended up working out perfectly for me.
I get away with the extra shipping time by having great inventory. There are other sellers in my catagories but all of my midnight supplier surfing paid off in finding suppliers that no else has so I have unique inventory lines. People are willing to wait a few extra days if they know they cannot get your product anywhere else.

EP - Many people do shop after Christmas - right up until that first Visa bill of the year arrives
Also, since it is a free listing day it is a great opportunity to get rid of odds and ends (and use the proceeds to pay off that first Visa bill of the year), test new products, try new pricing formulas, etc and do it all at no risk.

Thanks, Fenix. It must be that you're listing directly in Ebay, not through Vendio? I haven't seen such an opportunity on the Vendio listing page.

The reason I ask is because UK sellers seem to able to have as much Hidden Key Word Spammimg as they want.....nothing is ever done about it.

Crow - I think you must be projecting again darling.
Don't you know by now that most of the people even on this board know that you are a pschopathic crackpot and won't buy into your transparent not to mention juvenile attempts to smear me.
And besides my little nut job, if for some dreadfully misguided reason anyone actually thinks that your words possess anything resembling truth or credence it only proves them to be so completely lacking in basic common sense and intelligence that their opinion would mean nothing to me anyway.
So by all means Crow, continue on your quest to prove yourself to the widest range of audience possible to be the bitter hypocritical azz that all of us in the RT have know you to be for months now.
And have a lovely day.
