Thanks, Diane!
Just got off the phone with Melissa. They had some problems tonight with Ryan's breathing, but he's resting comfortably now. He had two surgeries today. They had problems with where they had put the first tube then had to go back in and insert one on the other side of his chest. He then had a spinal tap.
I'll keep everyone posted more on the website I developed for him called Ryan's Page. I'll also try to post more photos. Marcia noted the web site in her post above.

BTW, all, I will be seeing Ryan today and will provide him with many, many hugs and kisses. I'll tell him they're from his Vendio family.

It looks as though Ryan will be eligible for CareSource insurance which is Medicaid's managed care program. It's doubtful that they will pay 100%, but some is better than none. In fact, when I had my cancer, I went on Medicaid and they paid all but $1500. That was far easier for me to pay off than the multiples of thousands it originally cost.
We've raised almost $300 so far thanks to everyone on Vendio! We've told her that she doesn't have to worry about her rent or utilities or how her other children will be fed or taken care of and she sends all of you a great big kiss, her love and her blessings.
Ralphie
You gave up PlayPup for Ryan? Well, aren't you a sweetie pie! Perhaps you will be rewarded one day with a trip to a doggie island where you can bask in the warmth of the sun while listening to the gentle laps of the surf on the sand.
Edited to add: We had called her landlord to ask for an extension on her rent due to the circumstances. What a weenie! He said he couldn't do it. So, Ralphie, if you are ever in this area remind me to give you the address.

Your family and Ryan are in our prayers too. I sent a donation earlier but PayPal is in DH's name so you might not recognize me(gotta change that one of these years!). I'm glad insurance will pick up most of the costs and that your niece has such a strong support group in your family! It sounds like Ryan will get the best care available With so much love all around him, he's GOT to get better.

You guys and gals are the greatest! We are like one big family. We sometimes disagree like one, too.
Melissa told me today that she wants me to be sure to let everyone know how much she appreciates what you've done and how much she loves you for it. God will surely bless each and everyone of you.
A new pic of Ryan is on the website. We took it today:

well gosh, how could we NOT respond? 2 years old for pete's sake.
I was just reading an article in an old O magazine by Evan Handler (Sex & the city Divorce Lawyer) who had leukemia.
He said "If you can imagine what it might feel like to a bowl of chocolate pudding if you sucked some it up through a straw, that's what it feels like to have a bone marrow aspirate"
The title of the article is "Ask for what you want 100 percent of the Time".
He brought his own VCR from home to watch humorous movies and they wouldn't let him plug it in. Remember Norman Cousins says laughter heals.
My husband actually died when he was that age but they revived him. And out of the 4 boys his mother had, he is the most spiritual of the group.
So maybe Ryan will walk away with something great out of all this too. I was so happy to hear that his prognosis is so good. You said 80-90 percent full recovery but I read 85-95 percent.
Ryan means little King or little ruler.
He's reminding you that life is precious and not to be taken for granted!
After 9/11 it totally changed the way I felt about things. I will always think about that and is something REALLY worth getting mad about?

Hi everyone! Ryan is doing okay today. He's still heavily sedated with Morphine. Once they leave the hospital, he will continue to get the Chemo at home along with some other medications.
Between the beautiful, caring people on Vendio and members of my brother's church we have raised almost $1,000 so far. My brother has some business's that are going to donate as well and is looking to the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians as well. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart and Melissa sends love and kisses to everyone who has helped out!! I don't know of kinder people anywhere.

Thank you for the update Cheryl ... bless his little heart ... I just cry when I see that picture of him laying there in the hospital ... he looks like he feels so miserable, yet peaceful.
And if everyone here wouldn't mind (unless you already have done it), it would be really great if you would email all of YOUR friends and family, asking them to please help little Ryan and his family, with prayers and donations, and send them a link to the Ryan's Page she made, AND ask them to also forward the email to friends of theirs. ... I had done this on Saturday morning; then a girlfriend of mine down here (near Akron Ohio) works at a bank, and she forwarded my 'help please' email to all of her coworkers that she knows, at the various bank branches, and she got a wonderful response from them, and is collecting a good sum to mail to Cheryl ....
Amazing is the power of 'us' yes? ...
Cheryl has set up a savings account for Ryan and MommyMelissa, to put all these donations into ... it's a beautiful thing.

Have a great Monday, everybody!

Bonnie
I'm posting updates on the web site. We left Melissa and Ryan alone yesterday. They've been bombarded with family and friends since Ryan was admitted and Melissa is exhausted. It will be about a week before they know how Ryan is responding to the Chemotherapy. After that time, they will let us know if he'll need a marrow transplant or not. The doctor doesn't seem to think he'll need one. We have blood donors lined up in case he needs another transfusion. There is a very slight risk of HIV infection every time he gets blood from strangers. We don't want to take even the slightest chance. Fortunately, he has a common blook type (O+) and most of the family has the same type.
I'm going to the hospital again Tuesday or Wednesday evening. It will depend on when Ken can drive me. The clinic is located in a very bad neighborhood and neither Ken nor my brother want me driving alone to get there. The campus itself is safe and beautiful, but it is surrounded by inner city that's full of drug dealers and prostitutes. I don't suppose they could have found a better place to build a world-class hospital.

I am not posting this to the web site until I know more, but Ryan has taken a turn for the worse today. He has not had a bowel movement since Wednesday and he is now running a very high fever. He is going in for an ultra sound. They are fearful that both the liver and spleen are affected by the Cancer. Pray a lot today if you get the chance. We need that now more than anything else.

Hi, Diane. I just got home. Ken took me and my daughter to Dave and Buster's to get our minds off of things. The ultra sound didn't show anything so they still don't know what is causing the fever or the other problem he's having. They're going to run more tests. Poor little guy has been through so much already. Even after he's released from the hospital, he'll have to make daily trips back for 28 days!

Thanks, Diane. He is very fussy and moody right now in part due to the meds he's on. He's also very swollen, but he's alert and awake. He hasn't taken any steps and probably won't for a while. Leukemia is very painful and walking just makes the pain come back.
I'm concerned about Melissa, too. She's not eating and has lost weight. I had to stress to her the importance of keeping up her strength and her health. Ryan is really very close to her and doesn't want her to leave his side. We took up a good supply of snack food for her to at least get some calories in her. She's such a young mother and a good one at that.
Right now we're finding her a new place to live so that she can be closer to the family. That way we can help with caring for her other children. In fact, Ken and I are taking both my granddaughter and Melissa's daughter Candice on a camping trip next month. They miss their mother terribly right now.
Can you believe this one? Her car got towed by the city of Parma (long story) just before Ryan was rushed to the Cleveland Clinic. She was unable to leave the hospital until the other day to get the car out. She took a note from the hospital doctor stating why Melissa couldn't get her car out earlier because her son was being treated for Leukemia. Not only was the muffler system torn off her car by the towing company, they essentially said her problem was not theirs and they charged her almost $300 to get the car out. Guess what? There will be a story in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cleveland Free Times and the Cleveland Scene magazine making Parma Towing look like the heartless idiots they are. I'm going to start writing it tomorrow. Talk about heartless and after a buck . . .

Cheryl...The very first letter you want to write should be to the Captain in charge of the traffic enforcement division of the police department. Question the fitness of Parma Towing to remain on the p.d.'s rotation tow list, and file a formal complaint with them. Any towing company that gets on the rotation tow list of a police department has to meet and maintain very stringent standards. The last thing in the world that towing company wants is to have to answer a complaint of unfair or illegal practices to the p.d. And, the same as in composing negative feedback, be calm, factual and professional in your complaint.
