merak,
that is not MY 'war subject'.
How do you explain the deaths of US troops in 1961, Merak? And, wasn't sgtmike's reference to John Kennedy having gotten us into that war? I believe it was. But JFK was dead by your 1964 date, eh?

krs-I was referring back to you suggesting that Eisenhower started the war. I believe its a couple pages back.

No shooting war would have resulted in 1964 if not for Eisenhower's deployment of U.S. troops in Vietnam (granted, it might have happened under JFK's watch anyway, but "might've" is meaningless).

Oh well then, here's a timeline sort of thing so that you won't further choke on your foot, OK? I'm not going to argue with you as there's nothing to win.

Vietnam War: Kennedy involves US. John F. Kennedy (Democrat}
WRONG.
Eisenhower was a republican.
LOLL
I read that as you suggesting that Eisenhower started the war. No?
I wasn't talking about Kennedy.
jamesoblivion-the shooting war started with Johnson. You can implicate the Pope if you'd like, but its in the history books.

Last night I announced to the American people that the North Vietnamese regime had conducted further deliberate attacks against U.S. naval vessels operating in international waters, and I had therefore directed air action against gunboats and supporting facilities used in these hostile operations. This air action has now been carried out with substantial damage to the boats and facilities. Two U.S. aircraft were lost in the action.

Merak, I'm not implicating anyone, but I am pointing out that Eisenhower sent U.S. troops to Vietnam. Certainly the Vietnam War would not have occurred with the absence of U.S. troops in Vietnam.

Guess merak's off doing some reading....no telling how long that might take, so, since this trolling adventure has nothing whatever to do with the thread, moderator, if you would, lock this at the request of the originator.

Eisenhower sent advisors to Vietnam. And also was involved with the treaties to protect against communism in Europe, Asian etc countries.
But
krs off the link you gave above.
At the White House, President Johnson decides to retaliate. Thus, the first bombing of North Vietnam by the United States occurs as oil facilities and naval targets are attacked without warning by 64 U.S. Navy fighter bombers. "Our response for the present will be limited and fitting," President Johnson tells Americans during a midnight TV appearance, an hour after the attack began. "We Americans know, although others appear to forget, the risk of spreading conflict. We still seek no wider war."
No foot in my mouth, as that sounds like our (U.S.) first actual attack on North Vietnam.
January 1957 - The Soviet Union proposes permanent division of Vietnam into North and South, with the two nations admitted separately to the United Nations. The U.S. rejects the
proposal, unwilling to recognize Communist North Vietnam.
May 8-18 - Diem pays a state visit to Washington where President Eisenhower labels him the "miracle man" of Asia and reaffirms U.S. commitment. "The cost of defending freedom, of
defending America, must be paid in many forms and in many places...military as well as economic help is currently needed in Vietnam," Eisenhower states.

merak,
I did not say that you are a troll, but in your tenure here you have made eight posts, seven in this thread, and this quite knowledgeable post in another:

There is a Napster forum, where they discuss burning CD's, but I don't think its allowed to post urls to other forums.
It should be easy to find, once you go into the Napster site.
Must have been lurking for quite some time before taking the bold leap, eh?

I'm sorry, but my previous post about Napster has nothing to do with this thread.
And when does one, after reading for a year, become 'eligible' to post here? I've watched people that are new, post, and get slammed, be called a 'troll' etc, to where they wouldn't post again.

Well see, just so you won't go away with nothing, Johnson started bombing but there was shooting long before that.
