there seems to be an unusually high volume of childish fighting going on lately on this board and the moderator's board. as you may now know, i am up for a good, healthy debate anytime(networker- where are you when we need you?). but this is seemingly random hostility! does anyone have an explanation? is it some new or recycled users stirring up trouble? or just some regulars getting on each other's nerves? even krs has been accused of "stocking" other posters! is there something in the air or drinking water? or is it the new "passionate conservatism" being tried out? is it Dubya's doing? WASSUP?

I was just wondering earlier today how some posters deal with real life situations when they are not treated the way they feel they should be treated and they have no moderator to turn to....

Stusi,

You are really starting to bug, bug, bug me.

I've noticed the bickering, too. We need to remember that we can bash the "post", but not bash the poster. It's fine to disagree with each other, as long as we don't get personal.

krs- i know you say that with all due respect! but seriously Ken, what do you think it is? stockticker- have the mods assumed the role of mommies and daddies or has the role been thrust upon them?

Well, I just discovered that I have been a topic of discussion in
the moderators corner. It appears that bobbysoxer is watching me
very closely. I don't know why because I avoid her threads.

I appreciate the discretion that the moderators have used.

Maybe I should add smiley faces throughout my posts?

I have a big problem separating the subject from the poster. But, I am trying diligently to improve.

Hi stusi,

Shoot, this is nothing.

Compared to how it used to be, this really is a kinder, gentler AW.

It wasn't pretty.

My two cents...I think "most" posters don't set out to be rude. They speak their opinions, but without the ability to see their face or hear their inflection, it is very easy to take a post the wrong way. The help a bit.

Yes, sometimes a post will slam someone. And yes, some are posted with the motive of rudeness. But, I don't see most that way. The ones I do see that way, I mostly just move on. Whining to the moderators for petty comments is just childish. Letting them know when a thread is way out of line is one thing, tattling for every little thing is quite another.

If you don't like the comments of certain posters, use the ignore button, but keep it to yourself. Life is too short to get all worked up over comments on a message board.

Some posters just take things too seriously and too personally. They most likely are the same way in real life.

In real life or on chat boards, you have to have a sense of humor. And, not just the obvious haha humor.

Many posters have a very dry sense of humor and if they do not use smilies (and you cannot see the tongue in their cheek or the glint in their eye), then they will be misinterpreted.

You have to be willing to actually read (comprehend) and get to know your fellow posters.

I see what my problem is.

I have to get a sense of humor...

I wonder what category at eBay they would be listed in.

Well, be very, very sparing in your use of smilies. About 14 months ago, one memorable poster decided to use smilies as a weapon (she used them by the dozen in posts). As I recall, it was a very effective battle tactic. It set other posters' teeth on edge (which it was obviously intended to do) and several of the posters swore off using smilies at all in their posts for a while.

(I was amused, but prudently kept my amusement to myself.)
