Yo, Doug. Glad your back! Hey, lemme fill that glass for ya.

So kick back and tell us more about that place you went to. What's it called again?

OH, Doug, I also wanted to add that you don't have to be an owner or part owner or investor in a site to benefit from advertising for it. You could be a seller looking for more competition for your products. I am not saying that's what you are...I am not bothering to check you out. However, you might want to think logically the next time you start defending yourself before being accused.

the info by itself stands. since i told you upfront this was my first time here, would even the most narrowminded of you not give me the benefit of the doubt? i thought it would be clear, as in abscense of foggy thinking, that i would be just sharing info? if you care to go, just look. if not disregard this. is that simple enough for you? i try to help, but hit the wrong area? sorry about that, not my intent to upset anyone. but by the small# of concentrated responses i apparently didn't make such a purported life ending transgression.

bargainandhaggle.com is a valid site. if you expect me to back off the info. value you are mistaken. look at how small a clique you are and that you make a mountain out of a molehill. perception can swing many ways. this is simple. here's info. deal with it.no harm intended, but it's no surprise that outof all of you, there'd be a few who would find something to fault me on, there always is. any new breadcrumbs to vilify?

If you have had your account here since September of 1999, then why would you not understand what you were doing? C'mon...the first time you ever say anything, and it's an advertisement? And not only that, but you decide to post it here instead of in the "Other Auctions" section? Why? How can you not know your way around by now? I have only been here a week or so, and I know that.

I personally am not entirely offended...I just like joking around.

Doug,

Once again Kim is right. I've only been around for about two weeks, but I spent most of that time looking at the various boards to see what was being discussed. The Round Table is not for business, it's for fun. And I'll tell you something else, I've started a few threads myself and have found people to be very responsive to them! One of the threads was "Do you believe in ghosts" and you know what, not one person was "narrowminded" about that thread.

From what I've seen here, these are really nice people and a lot of what has been posted here in your thread was just for fun. You're taking this way too personally.

Why don't you post your thread in the "Other Auctions" forum and then come back and join the party!

Christina

Hey Doug, lighten up. You're being way too sensitive, man. So what'd you buy or sell. Anything you wanna talk about?

thank you for the info on the site Doug. I didn't see anyone asking you to back off from the site. They're trying to draw you into a conversation though.

IMHO your thread was an unqualified success. Look how much attention it got.

In this forum any thread at all could turn out to be an excuse for a party or a friendly argument or???? we're a conversational bunch.

g'nite all, flu has hit our family and I'm down for the count tonite. Kim, cmhaas, and dough, much enjoyed meeting you, hope to see you again. be well xardon.

best,
enchanted

to put this stuff to be, am neither buyer or seller on bargainandhaggle. i assume we are all clear on that. again, sorry if i hit the wrong place here. i just stumbled onto this place 3-4 days ago and said this is great. well, call me lost, misguided, unkempt. i thought i was helping, but with a few exceptions i get vilified. given that i live on social security disability i am always looking for new/valuable info, and tried to pass it on. didn't even know about the other auctions, cause i haven't been thru the whole aw-weekly site, and have to view the screen with one live and one half dead eye. my way of saying sorry, just thought you'd like to know and not be shot at. you can stop aiming arrows at me now, and but for the clique, thanks to the rest who've seen my posts and got what i was trying to do.

to any of you whom i may have offended or titallized:
if i come across moreinfo that could benefit others in the future, where would i go on aw? "other auctions" doesn't tell the story and thus many others wouldn't even know. where would i go? i mean to do it legit, so i would not offend people.

Douglastbailey - I'm sorry your feelings were hurt. As to your question, "where do I go so that I won't offend people on AW", I'm afraid that place doesn't exist, nor does any place exist on AW that you won't be belittled or attacked for your opinions, or ignored by moderators.

That's why I left, just wanted you to know that someone understands how you feel.

(Yeah I know, the next question is going to be "I thought you left so why are you posting"? ) My point will have been proven, that's all.

I'm so sorry I wasn't here to be part of your clique. Can I be invited? I always bring chocolate for the popcorn ~ M & M's or Milk Duds. It really is very yummy if you can handle what it does to your teeth...
please can I play with you? I promise to behave (if I can).
Douggie (can I call you that?)... these are the nicest most giving partymonsters in cyberspace... there's someone to play with 24 hours a day and they never get upset at you for spying on them....wallflowers are welcome....
(ummm...if they let me into their clique even though I'm cranky without my nicotine!)

Doug: I, for one, did check out the bargainandhaggle.com. I just want you to know that sometimes we here at the Round Table get into a silly mood, especially on the weekends, and maybe let our sense of humor get out of hand. We're sometimes very skeptical because of previous postings that have come and gone, and maybe we all jump on the bandwagon too quickly. When I first came here I was very intimidated, because everyone was very sarcastic and quick to ridicule someone's opinion. But those people are all pretty much gone now, and this group really was just trying to be funny and have a good time. I don't think we meant to hurt your feelings. At least most of us didn't. I guess the term "peer pressure" comes to mind. Remember back in grade school when it was fun to tease the "new kid". That's all it was. Will you give us another chance? please?

Isn't it interesting how people see things differently. I've been spending less time here because I've been seeing some consistently mean spirited postings. To be expected, and business as usual for some; disappointing to see it from others.

This isn't one of those time warp threads, is it?

So a new poster comes to the RT spouting off some boilerplate spam touting the benefits of some exciting new auction/selling site that we're all sure to enjoy.

Seasoned duck spotters immediately take aim and feathers fly.

In act II poster complains about cliques and callousness and throws out the sympathy card. Claims pure altruistic motive.

Disgruntled ex-regulars rush to defend. (We're all so mean.)

Plagued by self-doubt, some suffer remorse.

Another day at the RT.

Since when do spammers deserve an explanation/ apology? Unless this guy just got online for the first time yesterday, he knows damn well that spamming is bad netiquette. To say nothing about the bandwidth-wasting. Oy!

I don't know why I bothered, but I had a spare minute - I punched in the name "douglastbailey" and the response was "user name not found". I also did a search of auctions for the period Jan 1/99 to Feb. 24/01 for the name "douglastbailey". Surprise, surprise - no auctions showed up.

well, I'm not "disgruntled", but disappointed with the recent "tone" and don't consider myself a regular, but :
Nope, didn't post to defend a possible spammer, responded to a statement------I even bolded it--- that was made that "all the mean people have left and we just wanta have fun".

Xardon, my love... let me just say this about that. In my life I have been wrong so many times that it haunts me. Also, I have always been slow to admit my wrongs and apologize. So with age comes wisdom, and now whenever there is any doubt, I prefer to play it safe. So if I'm a fool - it won't be the first time. But if there is a chance I was wrong and now I've made amends, then I sleep better (and hopefully dream of you).

Muriel,
Because it was your statement I responded to, I hope you, and others, don't assume that it is you I am referring to, i.e. "mean people, or mean postings".

You are a 'class act"!

Xardon, who is usually a "class act", you twisted my words to 'we are all mean", when that is not what I said at all, but now it will be perceived that it is what I said.

Now I'm feeling remorseful.

It was my observation that this thread represented a characteristic of AW that I could encapsulate in a few short lines. I thought, perhaps, it would serve to illustrate some fundamental truths about this sometimes confusing milieu: That duplicity is common and not always immediately apparent and that agendas can be served in rather oblique ways.

Perceptions being what they are, we all view things differently. The Rashomon effect at the chat board, if you will. Satirical intent is another not so obvious thing.

I tend to go with my gut on issues here and let the devil take the hindmost. I trust my instincts and post accordingly. I think in that respect, at least, I've been consistent.

All that being said, however, it does trouble me that two fellow posters (of whom I am quite fond BTW) have taken offense. I'm sorry for that.

Man,
you're a tough crowd!

I, too have been around awhile but always on the ebay board. I came over here once but you all weren't having near this much fun. Today, I've been thru "astrology", "your interests" and I don't know what all. Must be the full moon.

Chill out, Doug and have some pie and ice cream. It's only calories.
