quote: posted on October 15, 2006 12:33:23 PM new Ebay changes the item # when I move it to my store. Filing by image name/number is a great idea and I thought it would work when eBay added a downloadable notes field. I put the scan batch # in every listing for a week but found that when they sold, the note field disappeared. Filing by topic or city/state/country still works best for me but I'm very open to ways of making my life easier!
I know you want to keep the titles clear for keywords, but in this case it may be worth it to do as I do. Each of my parts has a number I assign it and that number is placed on index cards with title, description, price and Ebay's item numbers along with anything else I may want to add like date placed in store, then the number is placed on the item and in the title. I learned a long time ago that the ebay item numbers only tend to confuse if each of your items are unique and you sure can't always go by the titles. I can have two or three of the same make and model headlight for the same year but in different conditions. The number I assign it and is in the title, makes things so easy to locate once it is sold. The files with the index cards sits on my desk and when an item is sold, I pull the card, put a stamp on it that it is sold and then use the card to find the item.I don't have to touch the item till I'm ready to pack it.Sometimes you have to decide what is more important, the keywords or efficiency and sanity.

PS, I forgot, I also use that number as a title for each picture for that item. Say the item is number 1400, then the pictures are named 1400-1.JPG. 1400-2.JPG and so on depending on the number of pics. I keep them in files on my computer along with the ones on vendios image hosting. The ones on vendio, also carry that number and I have them filed in files in image hosting based on 100's. Easy to find the pics that match to delete when the time comes.Everything revolves around that number!
I flatter myself that that riposte answers both Beth and dixielou.
Beth, people return to eBay because of the deals, even if they've had a dodgy experience. Even my mother has, and she swore she never would. Even my husband, who still refuses to patronize Wienerschnitzel because they shorted him a chili cheeseburger on an order 7 years ago. eBay is where the stuff is, and it's where the deals are on the stuff.
My response: Cognitive bias.
Not sure what your other reply to me...Claude was about? My comment is a direct response to your words above. So, here it is quoted or whatever.

Like txbg, I use a numerical system for organizing similar items. Romance books by author, for example, are given a RA1001, RA1002, etc, on the saved image. Romance books by lot become RL1001, 1002, etc. To do this, I use HTML to post my image in the listing, as well as using eBay’s one free image for the gallery and listing.
A lightly taped post-a-note on the front of the box in which it will be shipped, can be easily removed when the lot sells. Right clicking the image in the listing lets me know exactly which item to ship. Warehoused in numerical order, by category (RA, RL, etc.) makes it easy to find and can be shipped as soon as payment is confirmed, usually on the same day.
Collectibles images are saved by their assigned number (99-999). Other items are labeled similarly.
When in doubt about which item has sold, a quick right-click on the image lets me know exactly which item/box I’m looking for. No guess-work here.
