Tomwiii, Isn't it amazing how our pets can keep us on the straight and narrow. Ralphie's reaction made you realize that you were not being fair and in spite of your pain you were concerned about him. I really think pets give us back more than they take from us and make us much better people. Hang in and get the help you need tomorrow. We have you and Ralphie in our thoughts.

Is there a food that Ralphie really loves? I could put a pill the size of a golf ball inside a hunk of cheese and my Lacy would take it in a minute.

tom - my bad. somehow (even ME! for goodness sakes!) allowed a trojan to get into my computer and now I'm getting alas - TONS of spam emails every day. enough so that my internet provider actually cut off my email capabilities a couple of weeks ago until I proved that I rid myself of the nasty trojan.

I added you to my friends email list but I'm going to have to break down and get a new email addy.

did you call the number I sent you? if not - DO before you have your appt tomorrow!! (as they say)......there are no atheists in a foxhole one phone call is guaranteed to work!

I wish we still lived in Jax. If we did I would have come over and scooped you and Ralphie up and taken you home for Christmas!

I would have horrified you with how I was tortured by a dentist when I was very young and impressionable and left with a lingering memory of what a dentist visit could be like

Be safe - be well - and kick ass.

(so many times I think we just accept what a doctor tells us because we think they're gods. they're not. sometimes we have to stand up for ourself!)

Tom, I truly believe YOU gave US far more than any of us gave you. You allowed us to know the joy of giving to a person we have all come to know as a friend. Your wise counsel and depth of knowledge has helped many of us often. Even if that were not the case it was one of the best gifts I gave this season. I am proud of this board and all the good people who saw the need of a friend and stepped in to help. Merry Christmas all... now off to tweak auctions for the hoped for .. much anticipated "cheaper" listing day.

UPDATE:

I owe it to everybody who has been so wonderful to me here to keep ya updated about my adventures in DENTAL HELL...

Wish I could report that there was a solution today, but it looks like this is gonna be a long drawn-out mess...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RE-CAP:
My LEFT LOWER JAW has (from back to front): SPACE + MOLAR (old root canal+old crown) + SPACE + (?)BICUSPID , etc.
Around 12/1, that back molar started to hurt, which didn't make much sense, as it is a DEAD TOOTH with a CROWN... I was hoping it would feel better, but it was really wierd! In the morning, it barely hurt at all -- but as the day progressed (especially if I ate or drank or brushed my teeth), the pain would gradually increase until it became AWFUL at night. Then, I would zonk myself out with an AMBIEN, and, the next morning, the whole depressing cycle would begin anew...
Finally, on 12/5, I went to Dr. Geezer (upon a recommendation of a friend, plus hoping he would be cheaper, or, at least accept payments for treatment, as opposed to ALL UP FRONT before treatment), who said the molar was fine, but that the bicuspid in front of it needed a root canal. I told him that I couldn't afford a rc, just to PULL IT. He argued against that for my "best interests" and that "arrangements could be made about the fee."
So, he did the rc, and within 48 hrs, the NEW pain set in -- not only did my lower left jaw hurt (as described above), but NOW, that pain was progressing EVERY evening into MY EAR! Into MY TEMPLE! Into my Eustachian tube area!
I called him several times, getting a PEP TALK each time...Then, 6 days post-rc, I came in as an emergency & again he said everything looks great & I should just keep my regularly scheduled appointment for him to finish the RC -- that was 11:00 last tuesday...
I show up, and, after waiting 1.5 hrs, call him, and he tried to brush me off, as he was way behind seeing unscheduled FRIENDS & his stepson home from college. And I threw a hissy fit, so he "examined" me (no x-rays; NO pulling the plug from the rc; NO irrigation,etc) &, once he heard that the pain now goes into my ear (etc) goes off on a tangent about TMJ and how I need a (?) "bite guard" (for a mere $650) and schedules me for this coming FRIDAY...
He also changed the ANTIBIOTIC from AUGMENTIN to CLEOCIN...
And, of course, the pain at night keeps getting worse & worse (that ear/temple thingy didn't START until AFTER his RC on the 5th), until last night it was close to un-bearable & I almost went to the ER, but, instead, scheduled an appointment for TODAY at the JAX EMERG DENTAL CLINIC (they changed my appt from 2PM to 10:00am...Which brings me to...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

TODAY:

So, this am, I see a very nice YOUNG fang-fairy, who takes LOTS of X-Rays, including my LEFT UPPER MOLARS, as they too have been bothering me on&off,on&off,on&off... He said the UPPERS look fine, but it looked to him like I have a rip-roaring SINUS INFECTION on my left side & to see my PCP asap! Which I kinda suspected because, 3 years ago, I was an AFRIN ABUSER. It took me ONE YEAR to get off that vile poison, but, I think AFRIN permanently screwed up my sinuses...Oi!

He also noted some moderately serious GUM DISEASE, with a few teeth having some rather significant "pockets" Oi!

As far as the LOWER LEFT TEETH (the MOLAR + the post-rc BICUSPID in front of the molar), he didn't see ANY infection, but, rather, a large amount of inflammation...

According to him, sometimes (especially when done by a GP-dentist, as opposed to an ENDODONTIST), they go a little to deep and irritate a NERVE in the JAW BONE itself, and nothing is going to calm things down except for COMPLETING the root canal -- which, of course, should have been done last TUESDAY!

HIS RECOMMENDATION: contact Dr Geezer & have him FINISH the RC asap, hopefully TOMORROW... He also put me back on the AMOXICILLAN & got rid the the CLEOCIN which was making my stomach deathly ill (on top of my usual DEAD GUTS)...

So...I finally get ahold of the ROOT CANAL KING, and he refuses to see me tomorrow (he's TOO BUSY) and I should keep my FRIDAY appointment so he can make an impression for a BITE-GUARD (!!!) -- and, Oh yeah, he'll (maybe) finish the RC (or at least irrigate the damn thing)...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DID I JUST FALL DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE?
He doesn't accept that I had NO ear/temple pain until AFTER his RC! He was kind enough to offer to PULL the tooth on FRIDAY, even though I've already blown $500 on his RC & an EXTRACTION is a mere $150 MORE on top of the $500 already blown...
He is actually under the DELUSION that I'm going to go along with a tangential treatment without RESOLUTION of the ORIGINAL pain which is FAR WORSE now than before I saw him on 12/5!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

MY PLAN:

On Friday, I'll INSIST that he finish the RC & then FLEE from him never to return even if I saw PIGS FLYING OVER THE WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER, SINGING "QUACK, QUACK, QUACK!"

Thru the KINDNESS & GENEROSITY of everybody here, I can ESCAPE and find a REAL DENTIST who will END THE PAIN --

THANK YOU EVERYBODY!

Tom & Ralphie

PS: I should note 2 other things the YOUNG guy recommended:
1) My front tooth (which lost part of a filling 2 mos ago)will (not immediately, but within 1 month) need a RC+crown or I'll lose it and look like a snaggletooth...AND:
2) I probably need PERIODONTAL surgery soon because of the "pockets"
Oi!

sinus infection. told ya.

I agree. Finish the RC and if he doesn't agree to it - then you and Ralphie picket the office until he gives you your money back.

although I'd be a little leary of letting that joker anywhere near my mouth!

F*** the mouth guard! This guy has been sucking up too much gas!

GG:

Yeah, I'm in a quandry as I've already blown $500, and I don't think any other dentist will be willing to get in the middle of a procedure...

Once it's over, that tooth will need a crown and you can bet I'm already LOOKING... I might ry the UofFL CLINIC...

I don't know anymore -- my brains have been mush for 4 weeks, just ask RALPHIE!

What a day you have had. I'm with GG on the mouthguard. Think about it over night. Personally I wouldn't go back to Dr. Geezer but you do what you feel is right for you. Hope your suffering ends soon.

oh yeah that Afrin is nasty stuff! I've known several people that were addicted to it. I have it but won't use it more than once or at the most twice and only under dire circumstances - i.e. sinus infection.

(ps the dentist that gave me the dentist-trauma was later found out to be an alcoholic. I went in and he pulled 3 teeth because he said they all needed to come out. It was the last tooth he pulled that was the one that hurt. This was before gas and during it he clamped my lip into the pliers and got p*ssed off when I knocked his hand away. The dentist is dead now but I've often wished I'd gone back to him before he died and tell him how I felt about what he did to me.)

Tom, I'm not sure if it will help in your case, but you might try numbing the pain area (sinus area) with a steady flow of ice (I think someone previously mentioned it).

I have always said God made several BIG mistakes...
#1 teeth there must be a better chewing system with far less pain and a lot less costly.

#2 teenagers speaks for itself

Is it sac-religious of me to think that God could have made mistakes?... no... after all he had a perfect son and I sure there is a GOOD DENTIST in heaven!

Tom, I preferred posting my positive dentist experience before - here is my nightmare. I had unexcelled dental insurence, 100% with very high cap. I found a hip dentist within walking distance - GREAT! He got greedy and decided to perform all the advanced procedures himself - he kept breaking files off in my in my root canals and blamed his assistant - insisted that the tooth had to be pulled, happened once, second time went to the church route for a second opinion, he found 3 broken files by my coked-up carribean-certified dentist in the canal and saved the tooth. The worst was when my ex went to this crack=pot for 4 wisdom teeth extractions. He kept floating out of conciousness due to excess laughing gas administered.

Tom, I think I would report that crackpot dentist you have been seeing. & Fast. There is no sense of his treatment of you and your tooth. If he does not finish the tooth demand a refund and go see another dentist. The picketing of his office just might do the trick, be sure to call the local media too if you do picket. This dentist sounds like a real jerk to say the least.

Still have my fingers crossed for you. Prayers too.

Gee Tom sorry to hear you have had so much pain. Hope you are on the road to recovery.

I don't know if you want to consider this and you may even need a referral but I've been to Dr Karol - Downtown and Sawgrass locations.
He is wonderful and even his shots don't hurt. It maybe too late for your current issue but please keep him in mind for the future.

Also I had to take my husband to the emergency room for a tooth problem the same day after a trip to the dentist. They fixed him right up and told us that a lot of their business comes from bad dentist visits.
