I certainly agree that questionable actions have and are and will take place in Washington. I think that they are part of the political terrain, and that no successful politician can survive long if he or she is truly removed from it all. I also think that attempting to maintain an appearance of honesty and even rightiousness is a necessity for them all regardless their affiliation. That's why these mock trials can only be publicity by republicans attempting to maintain their seats. After all, what is ever proven? Who is ever convicted? No one is, really, except in the view of the screeching ignorant hordes.
Bill Clinton is not playing politics anymore. If he were, he'd have simply said when the question of a payoff for pardon arose "Of course, dummy, that's how this city is played". And if, along with that, there was a quiet implication that if this so called investigation continues there will be like investigations with different targets. We'd have a pretty quiet capitol then, don't you think? But he won't do that because while the republican finger pointers are so everlastingly busy wasting millions the democratic part keeps going about their business and getting things done.
Like I said, that's the way the city runs. It always has and it always will.

Yes, there was witness testimony that Jeb Bush and a pilot who was thought to be GW picked up a drug shipment in Florida. The testimony was from one of the parties to the transaction and wasn't given credence, because of his participation and, I gather, his prior record. It did occur at the height of Jeb's involvements in business dealings with Cuban rightists financed in part by one of the Columbian cartels. I don't remember the name associated with the cartel but it started with 'C' and was, of course, hispanic.
The entire S&L scandal is one fiasco with many players and several Savings and Loan companies. The players made millions from deregulation of that industry. It makes no difference which particular one any individual participated in, they were essentially all guilty of the same actions, sort of like jumping on the hayride as it comes down the street.
