Just a heads up. A friend brought a thread to my attention that's apparently going on over on the Seller Central discussion boards about a closed listing someone stumbled on. Apparently it shows a test?? of a new listing page which gives the viewer a RED warning about the seller having a poor shipping record. 330211950026 is supposed to be the auction.

Not sure what you are pointing out. All I see is a listing violation for selling an item that isn't confirmed.

I can see it.

"Read feedback profile This seller has low ratings for Shipping Time"

And they sure do.

4.5
4.3
4.0
4.1

Not to mention:

"THIS AUCTION IS FOR A LARGE LOT OF GOLD? JEWELRY. SOME OF IT IS COSTUME JEWELRY AND SOME I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S SOLID GOLD. THERE ARE QUITE A FEW ITEMS AND SOME CAN BE RESOLD AND MOST THAT ARE JUST SCRAP. I DON'T HAVE ANY SOLUTION TO TEST THE PIECES SO YOU WILL HAVE TO TEST THEM YOURSELF OR TAKE THEM TO A JEWELER. MAYBE YOU'LL FIND SOME REAL TREASURES! THIS LOT IS BEING SOLD AS-IS AND I WILL NOT ACCEPT RETURNS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! I AM STARTING THE BIDDING OFF VERY LOW. YOU DECIDE WHAT YOU THINK THIS LOT MIGHT BE WORTH. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING AND HAPPY BIDDING!"

I read about that on the eBay selling board. What a crock! It's terrible to do that to a seller that is paying the same in fees as everyone else. Everyone (at least those with common sense) knows that it only takes one or two crappy buyers to dump your stars. The shipping time can't always be blamed on the seller and the same goes with the shipping fees. IMHO, a buyer needs to take responsibility for his own decisions. If he chooses to bid on an auction from a seller with questionable feedback or unreasonable TOS, then it's on him. Talk about big brother stepping in. This could really kill some of the big powersellers.

I agree, it is often not the sellers fault that shipping is slow. I live in Canada, and most of my buyers are US and International. My husband mails every day for me, but once packages are in the mail, I have no control over them. If you look at the feedback for that seller, there are no negative comments.
Is it true that if a buyer gives a neutral rating the DSR goes down?

What actually happens if a buyer fills out 3 of the DSR categories and doesn't respond to the fourth?

Looks like we all need to develop a TEMPLATE that briefly explains the BS of the DSRs and have it appear RIGHT BELOW that UNFAIR warning.

Here's what the concern is. Notice the RED WARNING

http://ngvi.ebay.com/vi?ngvi&backtoid=1&ppsp=0&li=1&pdp=0&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBI%3AIT&dsr=0&item=330211950026&backto=http%3A%2F%2Fmy.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FMyeBay%26CurrentPage%3DMyeBayBidding%26ssPageName%3DSTRK%3AME%3ALNLK&pass=sT%2BfUzQ%2BXdhJ99MVsJ5UQwpVHQs%3D

So if my descriptions are accurate, buyers are satisfied with my communications, I ship quickly, and my S/H charges are reasonable, in the future I can expect a RED WARNING on my auctions?

Here's the rating used to determine sellers DSRs:

How accurate was the item description?
Very inaccurate
Inaccurate
Neither inaccurate or accurate
Accurate
Very accurate

How satisfied were you with the seller's communication?
Very unsatisfied
Unsatisfied
Neither unsatisfied or satisfied,
Satisfied
Very satisfied

How quickly did the seller ship the item?
Very slowly
Slowly
Neither slowly nor quickly
Quickly
Very quickly

How reasonable were the shipping and handling charges?
Very unreasonable
Unreasonable
Neither unreasonable or reasonable
Reasonable
Very reasonable

What is wrong with ebay. They are playing with our income here and don't seem to give a *^%$.

Where does: "We are just a venue" fit in with feeBay attaching caveats like this:

Read feedback profile This seller has low ratings for Shipping Time (BOLD is RED in listing)

...to a seller's auction?

If feeBay drops their "We...venue" stance, they open themselves to all kinds of legal tussles, don't they?

What nauseating & overwhelming HUBRIS!

I haven't read it anywhere recently. Have you?

Looks like the "poor" shipping maybe because the seller does not use PP. Depending on how prompt the payment is, the buyer waits an extra 4-5 days to perhaps as long as a month before the stuff arrives. I assume if the seller takes personal checks he holds them until they clear.
Guess eBay is telling us in RED that if we want to get good grades we need to use PP!

After looking at this guys feedback, it would appear that this is well deserved.

I bought the item a while ago, and i don't have it yet. WHERE IS IT!!??!!

Item mailed in timely manner,no attempt at contact, only been 2 wks!BAD EBAYER!!

2 weeks and still not there. Are you kidding me? How did it ship? Camel Express. This seller needs to look at his/her overall shipping stradegy and make some adjustments.

Feedback comments for this seller are not the point. The point is that according to feeBay's standards for the DSRs, a person with good ratings across the board, 4s, will get a BIG RED WARNING inserted in their auctions, along with listings for other sellers inserted in their listings to boot.

If you think there's nothing wrong with that, you have already bent over for feeBay

That was exactly the point.

Yes, the star system does have it's flaws. But that doesn't change the fact that this seller isn't making good choices when it comes to shipping options.

bowtiefifty gets it.

In addition to the RED warning for shipping (if that applies to a given seller) the new test page has a tab in the middle of the page that prospective buyers can click on while viewing your listing (that you paid for) to see your competitors auctions too. How unfair is that??

Again, I don't know to make a link but here's an example of an active test auction with the "related items" tab. htttp://tinyurl.com/2b9szn.

How about a link to an active test listing. Just us the real link and stop with the tiny urls.

I really do not care for the Tiny URLs as you really don't know what else you are getting along with the link.

The width of this thread has given me a headache.

Bill, what you are getting is a cookie wrap. The URL shortening services look at the base of the original URL and wrap an affiliate code into the shortened URL.

The idea is that if it's a URL for, say, an Amazon product, the URL service collects a commission on that purchase and subsequent purchases (probably for seven days, but I haven't checked).

There are maybe hundreds of sites now that do this.

One way to foil this would be to go to the website of a friend or relative who is an Amazon affiliate and click from there, thus making sure the commission goes to someone you like. I'm sure there are Amazon affiliates on this very board.

Last year,AMZN was suspending sellers left and right, with AMZN ,you can leave your listings on as long as you want, and many just leave them on AMZN after the books have been sold elsewhere or given away or misplaced .
Some dont even have any books, they just list them and scramble to find the book after someone bought them.
These sellers get big fat negs but how many people read their ratings?
So,AMZN threw them out.
When the entry barrier is so low ,you get all the scums -anyone can list on AMZN,Half.com,Ebay,Epier,Bidville,Ioffer with or without the merchandise.

Lets all stop whining !
