All I know is,I work very hard,my profit is getting less and less.

This is very true for me as well, especially when I sell on ebay and get paid with paypal.

"It really comes down to this - it only takes $33 a day in gross sales."

And in July you will also need DSRs of 4.5 or higher in all four categories.

(It looks like this will be harder for some than others.)

For hobby sellers who think this is unfair, it doesn't take much to reach $33 a day in sales. Maybe it will be motivation to take things to a higher level.

I wish the discount were for everyone, but I am not complaining about it. If I am quote me because I honestly don't remember saying I was pi**ed about this promotion for power sellers only.

For some of the "Hobby Sellers", ebay, etc... is done part time and they work (maybe on non-ebay related internet sales), etc... full time, so achieving the $33.00 (power seller status) may not be possible.

This board is for everyone and should not exclude anyone. There is a wealth of information and help here and I applaud those who can give it without feeling like they are superior.

I think there is room for everyone on this board. I don't think anyone has said this except for you.

As far as doing this part time. my point is that it is very easy to become a power seller working this part time. I did many years ago when I held a full time job, had another internet consulting business, and did part time sales. $33 is possible, but if someone is a hobby seller, that may not be to goal - and there is nothing wrong with that. I think ebay works with a mixture of full time sellers and part time sellers.

Maybe I was confused by these statements from Fluff:

You hobby sellers have been flattering yourselves for far too long about how "important" you are to eBay. Wake up.

Go talk to the Club99 bunch. It seems they mainly buy and sell from each other, but they're all about fun fun fun.

Is Club99 another board?

edited to fix something.

yes, I checked my ebay account and I got the promotion listing fee of 10 cents. But I just relisted items that didn't sell and I sent over listings from my ebay store. I didn't have time to get new listings ready.

Thanks, zippy2dah!

*Club99* is an independent group of sellers that originated on eBay and was developed to encourage bidding on Saturdays, which seemed to be the slowest day for sales. Our primary goal has been to unite sellers in an effort to help each other and promote our online sales effort.

Fluff, thanks for the offer but no thanks!

I looked at the items I've bid on in the past 30 days. It looks like the split between power sellers and non-power sellers is about 50-50. I think we all agree that there is room for everyone and that diversity in the marketplace benefits all of us. The question is, is this an appropriate way to reward Powersellers? In the past, when I've received a break from virtual monopolies (telecommunication companies), it was based on future commitments, not past performance. Listing fee reductions if pre-purchased in bulk makes a great deal of sense. What medium or large seller can plan around or bank on 1-day advance notice reduced listing price days?

eBay has been pretty reliable in maintaining these sale days over the past two to three years. Last year their sale was APRIL 25th. Last month the sale was within a week of the previous years sale date. Next month the sale will be around the 25th probably.

http://www.medved.net/cgi-bin/cal.exe?EIND

Now for June and July...not much happening there..but until they can get their auction total over 14-15m...you may see extra sales.

As for planning, that is the power of VENDIO. Create a couple of batches and just store them until the sale hits. I could easily create a hundred or so postcard, hot wheels or vintage ad auctions and wait til they hit us with a sale. Instead of listing them in the store, I wait for the SALE DAY and list them on auction.

In the past I never took part in any listing sales that were offered. We only get a One day notice for listing sales so I never have auctions ready for the sale.

I don't sell like most power sellers and I don't usually list more then 50 auctions a week and most of the time less then that.

Some weeks I don't list at all.

But this time I had some auctions that didn't sell so I relisted them figured to take advantage of the sale for my large priced items and then take from my store what was not selling.

When I first started selling on ebay I use to list 10 items a day, and tried to figure that if they all sold I would make at least 100.00 a day. My goal was to make 100. a day. So I was very devoted to my listings and it was working out great the first few years of selling, plus I had my Antique Store also at the time So I would do my listings at night.

But back then you could list for 9.99 and your item would go up to a reasonable price. Now you could list it for 9.99 and most of the times that's what you get. Plus by listing each day my items would be on the main page each day. But now the way search is I don't even know how to figure which way works best. lol

I downloaded Turbo Lister a few years ago and I put items in it, I list a few every now and then and on a cheaper listing day, I can upload all of them fairly easily. If I sell the item elsewhere on the net, I just delete it from TL.

Interesting, on the medved chart, the sale created barely a bump. Oops, just saw an updated chart- never mind.

However the $33 dollars a day is very flawed. With Ebay's own admission that the sell through rate is now under 20% site wide, you will have Ebay fees at least or higher than your $33 dollars a day.

They really should be called power-listers instead of powersellers.

"However the $33 dollars a day is very flawed."

The only thing flawed is your math and/or critical thinking skills. Perhaps for you it would take $33 to get $33 in sales. Keep plugging away! Most people who do this for a living are well aware of sell-through and what is involved to make money here.

All this talk about power sellers getting a discount, I am a recent power seller with only 143 positive feedbacks. When I got the letter I was excited. And then the new policy changes kicked in and because some a hole didn't read my "please read before bidding" which clearly stated that I do no accept Paypal. Bid, paid, stopped payment on her check, and then left me neg feedback. Even though I was able to get her feedback removed I can't sell on ebay unless I offer Paypal because another person, who must have me confused with someone else left me neutral feedback, when I questioned him, he stated it took 2 months to get his items, which is not true. In fact he left the feedback just under a month from the end of auction date. I will not be blackmailed into using a service I choose not to. I am in with the boycott now and have found another place to sell. So you see, "power sellers" as far as I can tell don't get too much special treatment. I guess the fact that I have 143 pos feedbacks doesn't reall matter and with the new feedback policy, sellers have no protection from scamming buyers. aaaaaahhhh

And further more lol, I am furious at feebay lol. Can you tell. I really should have around 200 or more feedbacks but not everyone leaves feedback, and if someone wins multiple auctions, only 1 counts. For instance I had a buyer a few months ago that won about 23 auctions, the only left one feedback I guess because they know it doesn't really matter. Go figure. I have found a wonderful new online auction that was created by a former power seller that remembers what it use to be like on feebay when it first came about. 8.00 flat feem, unlimited listings. Look at all the money I will be saving. Oh, and I can choose m y own payment methods and I can leave appropriate feedback for buyers, not just positive, wow, what a concept. So, even though my feedback rating is 98.6, good enough to have the Power seller icon, it's not good enough to sell on ebay. Oh Ebay, we could have been so good together lol if only you respected me and treated me right after we slept together lol take care and good luck to those who choose to stay. Oh I forgot, food for thought, maybe they are offering these discounted listing days to offset the upcoming boycott, they did the same thing with the last boycott to offset the numbers

Attic: Did you offer to let the buyer who wanted to use Paypal back out of the sale? Ebay has a process that lets you do this, gives you your fees back and doesn't tarnish the buyer. This process usually leaves everyone happy & no negs. You have relatively low feedback for a Powerseller, so I'm assuming you must sell high-ticket items. Hmmm, high ticket items, low feedback, recent negs + neutrals, unwilling to offer buyers the protection of paying through Paypal. Yes, I can see why eBay may tell you not to let the door hit you on your way out.

hi deichen,
your way seems good. I do use a 3rd party for my listings but if I make any listings I don't let them sit till a sale comes I just list them. So I guess I will never be ready for a sale. lol

Pretty soon I think everyone will be forced to take paypal. Ebay keeps thinking on how to make there buyers happy and making everyone use paypal will be another way to make the buyers happy.

I take paypal now and as all of us that do we know that we could have a problem at any time if we get a bad buyer.

Someone I know that sells high end jewelry just go suspended for 2 weeks ...he can not use auction style listings, he can only use BIN listings AND He is forced to use Paypal as part of his punishment.....lol He only use to accept Money Orders. After the two weeks end I will find out if he can stop using paypal............

Why was he suspended?

I'm not looking for gossip. I just wonder if his "crime" was related to a payment issue?

posted on April 25, 2008 02:44:17 PM new
No, it was not a payment issue. It was for bidding on his own auctions. He started his auctions low and when it didn't reach what he wanted he would go to his daughters house and bid from her computer.

When he told me this I told him not to continue doing this because when you keep filing for your FVF and then relising the auctions they will find out what your doing. But as we all know people do not believe what you tell them.

I told him just list it for what you want or put a reserve on it, but stop doing that. It took about a month of this till ebay figured it out.

He got screwed from paypal transactions so many times with international bidders so he stopped using paypal. He lost a few thousand dollars and his gold coins to International sales because Paypal doesn't listen to the seller when there is a problem.

It doesn't make sense that eBay let him back on , but only if he offers PayPal. In fact, it doesn't make sense that eBay let him back on at all.

They only suspended him for two weeks but during that time he could list items but only with the BIN feature, no auction listings. Maybe it don't make sense but that's what Ebay did.

Pix: The buyer did not give me a chance to let her out of the deal, would have gladly done so. Why do you think ebay removed the feedback. She was laughing at the fact that she thought my bank would charge me. My payment method has worked fine for me and my happy buyers who actually read payment methods accepted by buyers. It is my own personal choice and reasons as to why I choose not to accept Paypal. The point is, ah nevermind, I already see where your mind is.

I am still furious because this just recently happened to me and I feel it is just unjust. And with the new feedback changes, with what happened to me with the lady who put stop payment on her check and immediately left neg feedback without even contacting me, calling me, laughing at me, this is bad news for some sellers. Just like the guy who left the 6 neutrals, if you read my reply and look at recent feedback if left for another seller, neutral, I might add, seems like people are starting to take two months to send his items. Hmmm makes you wonder. And because he was smart enough to state the wrongs facts from his personal email, unlike the first woman, ebay couldn't remove it, oh well.

out.

Are you a buyer? Just wondering. Also, "high ticket items" lol If you read some of the discussion boards as to what Paypal is doing with the 21 day hold, yikes, makes me even more hesitant to sign up for it. Buyers are getting their items, some buyers that is, and also getting their money back from Paypal. Yikes

And who said ebay asked me to leave, I can sign up for paypal or wait till my pos numbers rises a little, which it is, after the neg and neutral. So for those buyers who actually read what they are suppose to in a sellers auction, they are quite happy with my service.

Anyway, sorry folks for taken up so much space just needed to vent. Have a good night all.
