Can someone please look at this auction and tell me if they see a rusted out purse?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120241057970
I got an email from the winner. A buyer in Australia saying she just got this purse yesterday and it's completely rusted. She's complaining about paying "187.00" for it (she paid $157.) and has threatened to file a PayPal dispute. There was no rust on this purse anywhere. It was in amazing condition. Her email was hostile. I emailed her back telling her that I have all the photos taken of the purse and that the original owner also has photos. I also told her I mark all my items invisibly (I do). There's no way this purse was rusted out.
What now? I'm not giving her her money back. IMHO, it's buyer's remorse. She got the same bag in gold cheaper and I think she now wants out of this sale.

She may not win the Paypal dispute under 'item significantly not as described',even if she does, she has to send it back with DC which would cost her.
Paypal seems to have made some changes on intervening between buyer and seller as to condition of the item,I know when it comes to electronics, they are no longer siding with buyer who complain item is not working or condition not as described or missing a component?
May be someone else can come along and shed more light on it.

Here's her original message to me:
The item arrived yesterday. WOW... how disappointing. $187.00 for a vintage purse that is full of rust. The mesh is in an appalling state. It is rusted! This cannot be cleaned. I am very unsatified with this. I can appreciate it's vintage - but not rusted... This was not represented in the auction at all. Do i lodge a dispute through paypal?
I love how she ends it by asking if she should file a dispute. Again, there was no rust. Thankfully, I've saved the photos. The original owner took some, too. She's looking for those. Just think of the fun we're going to have next month when we can't leave negatives. I'm through with selling internationally. 99% of my problems come from overseas buyers.

If this is the way she launches her complaint with Paypal and you show photos of the purse used in your auction, she is going to lose.
I won a dispute recently when a bidder who collects and repairs 18th c Meiji carvings complain mine is crappy, dusty and made in China.
I never say mine is 18th c Meiji and it is not dusty.
It takes one month for Paypal to get to it.

Just a caveat:
Did you sign up for PP's extended sellers' coverage -- the coverage that covers shipping to ANY address?
One of the snarky tricks with PP is that unless you actively accept this generosity from PP, you are covered only by the "old" rules?

Your purse looks lovely in the photos!
I see she has bought several so maybe go back to her with a reply along the following lines:
Dear Buyer,
I have received your letter regarding the condition of the purse however I am frankly puzzled!
You say that you paid $187.00 and that was not the amount of this auction. You further say that the purse is rusted and this one was in perfect condition.
Is it possible that you have sent your complaint to the wrong seller?
Yours.....

It wasn't even 187 with shipping! Unfortunately, it's midnight in Australia and I emailed her at 9:00pm Australian time. I haven't heard back yet. Only a blatant scammer would have taken an "appalling" purse and turn it into what I have pictured. Believe me, I'm not that hard up for money.

I used to get occasional emails from buyers who mixed up my item with a similar one from another seller. It's not that unusual, and even if it didn't happen, it allows them an opportunity to back off without losing face (not that they deserve it, necessarily, but your goal should be as hassle-free a resolution as possible).

Australians use dollars, too. Their dollar is worth less, so it takes more of them to purchase from us.

Will do, otterpop. Her email almost sounds as though she wants a partial. It's very hard to miss appalling mesh on a silver mesh handbag. I may wear bifocals, but I'm not totally blind! I really think it's buyer's remorse and that she feels she spent too much. Not only did she get the handbag, she also got a change purse and wallet. This does it for me as far as int'l sales go. They can pretty much do as they please and what the heck are you doing to do about it?

I had a similiar experience recently. A buyer e-mailed me about a large dent in a metal item. I was POSITIVE mine was not dented but offered a full refund with shipping both ways...and also mentioned my "marking". He was very nice and said he had purchased a similiar item at the same time and had gotten mine and the other one mixed up. It ended there. Maybe you could suggest this to her and have her re-examine her auctions.

Come to think of it. . .this purse is silver plated. She's out of her mind. I think she wants me to offer a partial refund. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. I'm still waiting to hear from her. I know that it's early morning there right now (6:30 am)

Cheryl,
You are in my thoughts this evening and I hope you can take some time and enjoy that smart little Granddaughter...well at least buy her a new glass!
It will get better but it takes so long and we are impatient types.
Anyway I thought I would drop in to see if anything else transpired on this little gem!

Cheryl: I just looked at your auction and I definitely do not see any rusted-out areas! I also wanted to tell you that I have this in the gold version! Got it in 1955 from a rich boyfriend, have used it perhaps 5 times in all these years. So soft and pretty.
