Lets see, powersellers pay less to list, get percentage off of their fees, get preferential placement due to best match, guess us non-powersellers are supposed to get the message 'don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out'!

Why would it be a better time to buy?? PS can list their items for big bucks and still only pay a dime for listing. Doesn't sound like this is a time for low ball starting prices, but a day to list high priced items for a dime!

Let's see. Tax time just ended and for the most part, people haven't yet recovered. Even if they had it for all sellers, it might be a good one to pass on.

Powersellers need $33 gross a day to have that status. You can be a part time seller and do that. If you aren't doing that level, then in my opinion you have a hobby, not a business. While hobby sellers can certainly list on ebay, and business is going to reward customers who actually make them money, not ones that complain and don't bring in much money. That's the way it works.

The IRS wants their cut even if you stitch, and sell it at a craft fair. That's not exactly a standard that defines a hobby seller as a business. In fact, if your income is too low, and you claim a business, it could just lead to an audit.

Yes, that is how it works. Your examples are kind of silly, but business that spend more money on something have more room to negotiate for lower prices.

Not always. It is fine that ebay is doing this for power sellers, it is their choice, but to make a blanket statement about businesses is SILLY. I can come up with more businesses that don't reward but then it would just be silly.

It is silly to state that the more money you bring to the table, the more negotiating power you have? Nothing is "always" by the way and I never stated such, you did.
There is a correlation between the amount you are bringing to the table and how much negotiating power you have. If you don't think that is true, read up on how many things Wal-Mart can dictate to those that want to do business with them. They have so much buying power that they can dictate packaging size and shape, among other things.

Um yeah, we pay less. If you have one car as a hobby seller, PowerSellers have 10, 20, 50, 1000 or 10000 cars. (No, not literally!) Ever hear of cardlock systems for businesses with fleets of vehicles?
Same with food. You shop at Safeway for three kids, we source food in bulk from institutional distributors and it's for an entire K-12 school district.
You hobby sellers have been flattering yourselves for far too long about how "important" you are to eBay. Wake up.

Look, you insist on making pronouncements -- in this thread and elsewhere -- as if people who have businesses to run and livings to make should pay attention to you. You are a hobby seller. Fine, there's nothing wrong with that. Somebody has to sell secondhand toys and clothes on eBay, I suppose.
But if you don't even do $33 of business a day on eBay, well, there's very little I can learn from you, and there's no reason why you should consider yourself in the same league with people who do 10, 20, 50, 100 or 1000 times that much business. Go talk to the Club99 bunch. It seems they mainly buy and sell from each other, but they're all about fun fun fun.

Boy did they piss me off last week!! I was using the lawn edger and my cat ran in front of me. Well the edger chopped the tail off of that cat real quick. So I took him to WAL-MART....I was told they couldn't help me!?!?!?!?
I yelled at the manager...told him that I thought they were the NO.1 RE-TAILER!!!

I guess Ebay is giving power sellers something extra since they sell more and bring more business to EBay.
I shop for my food at Peapod which is on the Internet and delivers to my home. I buy alot so they give me free shipping or they give me choices of special items to receive for free. They don't do that to all shoppers only the ones that are considered VIP's. It's there way of saying thank you.
So isn't it the same with what ebay is doing now?
Don't credit card companies give customers a bonus when they spend a certain amount?

Neither do I rejoice because others are not getting this price break.

I'm a power seller now but ebay keeps taking it away from me when I don't work my butt off but I don't care. Just the other day Ebay told me I lost my power seller standing,
I don't care.
But today when I listed auctions I got the 10cent listing fee so guess they changed there minds.....lol Who knows, and who cares.
Everyone is doing what they want to do so why should it matter what is said about hobby sellers/power sellers/ or part time sellers. Everyone works how they want to work, isn't that the bottom line.

Did you check your "view account status?"

It's not a matter of feeling special or anything like that. It really comes down to this - it only takes $33 a day in gross sales. It isn't some high status that can't be achieved.
The word powerseller conjures up such negative images. Read the posts in this thread, we get everything it seems. Like other full time sellers, just trying to make a living here. I'm a Gold Powerseller (and ebay isn't even my main venue anymore) and I still consider myself a small player. I am amazed that someone who doesn't even make $33 gross a day in sales really has a lot to complain about - Ebay's policies can't be affecting them very much. There is room for the hobby seller on ebay, and I think there should be room. I applaud any move on ebay that recognizes the sellers that actually make money for them.
For hobby sellers who think this is unfair, it doesn't take much to reach $33 a day in sales. Maybe it will be motivation to take things to a higher level.
