I don't know the launch date, but I can try to find out for you. They're working behind the scenes on totally new servers and are planning to transfer all auctions and info over to the new site. I'll ask the owner and see if he can shed some light on a time frame. He's also open to all suggestions and ideas. There's a suggestion "box" on the home page. Why not e-mail? He'll get back to you very quickly.
Yes, eBay, hands-down has more bidders. They're also getting more and more deadbeats for some reason. I had my first in two years! Taking away the advantage of being able to e-mail the underbidder is a big mistake on their part. I lost out on a sale due to it.

I'M SELLING ITEMS!!!
New technology-fun, allows freedom, while monitoring my "LIVE" auctions.
NO deadbeats(for me)-since verification of email for sign-up.
NO ratings...but no complaints from my buyers. Rating system needs tweaking, but, with ratings elsewhere, it matters not(for me)
Site sometimes slow...More servers being added to handle visitors(4 mil today). 3500 page views(my charity auction)-I'm impressed.

My favorite site is POPULA. I get top results and excellent service. I only list vintage stuff there and it sells readily and consistently.
Second favorite is Ebay. Results aren't as good as they used to be but are still reasonable.
Third favorite is Yahoo Australia and New Zealand. Still free. Take a while to sell but works for me.

decotiques - I agree 100%! Popula is the first "non-eBay" site where I've gotten multiple bids and decent ending prices. It's not for everyone because of the limited categories, but it's definitely a good "niche" for antique and vintage collectibles - something I've been wanting for a long time!

Nanabees,
I'm not sure where you are getting your data but you are way wrong. Who are you tying to fool? LowestBids had 4 million visitors today?
Let's see...eBay gets 40 million per month (I can show you proof if you want but it is actually the data that LowestBids provides from Top9.)
Again, ebay gets 40 million per month. LowestBids got 4 million yesterday....that's 120 million in a month.
Wow!! Guess what everyone...LowestBids gets 3 times as many visitors as eBay! LOL.
And what are these visitors looking at?? 170,000 auctions. Of that, 75,000 are in the Books:General category. I believe this is from one seller. And, 31,000 are in the Computers: Domain names category.
So, without Books and domain names, LowestBids has 69,000 items listed. 4 million visitors viewing 69,000 items...I doubt it.

Gottaknow88,
Please refrain from "bashing"...I just listed from what is on their front page. This is a positive thread...please reserve your anger for someone elses thread, or start your own.
And I sure hope you are not angry that I am selling and making an honest living for myself??? Good! I didn't really think you were.

I just don't understand why everyone can't be happy for those who are doing well.
I hope EVERYONE has tremendous success, wherever they are....and....wherever they wind up.

nana - sorry for corrupting this thread. My facts are correct, but the comment did not belong here.
It just upsets me seeing websites falsify statistics to fool unsuspecting visitors.
I'm glad you are doing well there and hope it continues for you.

Gottaknow88,
Thank you! Appreciate the kind response. Really wish you lots of success in all you do and wherever you go.
By the way....which site do you prefer? I've seen your posts...you do alot of "checking" on the sites. Would you mind sharing your thoughts on sites you find to be worthwhile? It might help alot of folks out.
Thanks again!

Nana,
In one of the other threads I mentioned I only use eBay. That's the one that works for me. You probably didn't see that post because mine are alway so long, technical and boring. Most people probably read my posts as blah, blah, blah, blah. LOL.
I'd love to see some competition to eBay but I just don't think it will happen anytime soon. One site I do like that gets almost no attention is AuctionAddict.com. I don't list there but I think it is well organized.

Thanks for the input.
I've read some of your posts and visited the recent link, and found them to be interesting. I hit or miss on reading alot of the posts...busy, busy.
Will take a look at AuctionAddict...looked at 'em before, but a long time ago.
Have a great night!

The problem I find with any of the "Second Wave" (see the Auction Watch article) auction sites is that the interface on most of these sites are absolutely horrible. Actually, I guess when you think about it most of the "First Wave" interfaces suck too.
As for my favs, as a seller I like eBay best. As a buyer, I like Bidville because I have no competition in the auction. If I bid, I get it. Thats why I don't sell there.
Also, I don't mean to sound like a broken record but I would recommend Bargain and Haggle http://www.bargainandhaggle.com . I have been having really good luck as both a buyer and a seller. Once this site gets bigger, I could see myself selling exclusively here. I like the idea of haggling better than auctions.

I heard back from tbayauctions.com and this is what he said:
The launch is approx. 3-4 weeks away.
A lot depends on the new features and sellers
management pages. If all goes well with the programing of these areas we are good to go.
Once the new site is up that is just the beginning. They will then get to work on more promotion and advertising to give the traffic a boost. They're also working on a portal site which will have shopping links pointing to the auction site and sellers storefronts.
Sounds good to me

I have 3 favorite auctions. I would have to say my very favorite auction is RSA (Rubber Stamp Auction). It's VERY small and not fancy at all but, I have been selling about 80% of the stamps I have listed there first time listed. The customers are super nice. It's not an auction for everyone & everything. You can only sell craft items but, it's 100% free and I'm in the black selling there.
I also like BidBay and hope to list there again after the fees are all out in the open.
This week I put a few things on BidVille - really like this new auction it has a wonderful chat bunch and I hope to sell there. I sell at other auctions but, so far these are my three favorites.
I buy at all three and have found great bargains at each one.

gottaknow: LMAO... THANK YOU!
Your posts are true, accurate, and certainly in the right thread.
When someone recommends a site, and others know the truth about that site, it is certainly encouraged to warn other users, to prevent them from being duped by that site.
We all know the history of that sites fraudulant activities both on their site, and here on AW, and that is why no one ever even mentions that site here as a serious auction alternative...

I agree! eBay is by FAR my most favorite. I've tried Yahoo a time or two, but it just seems to ME that eBay is the most fully featured. Which makes sense, it started the whole thing and they have had the most time and experience to make changes.
- Mike
P.S. - Though I have to admit, using AuctionWatch has made it a BLAST to do as a side hobby...I started out just trying to get rid of some old games I had, and between eBay's usability and quality of users as well as AuctionWatch's ease of posting and ESPECIALLY Post-Sale activities, its growing more towards an obsession.

Choosing a "favorite" is tricky business. Ebay & I have a love/hate relationship. Mostly love though. I also have a love/hate relationship with Yahoo at this point. I guess Ebay is my favorite by default...but maybe that's like choosing a favorite dish from a restaurant where you've only tasted 2 or 3 things on the menu?
I like Pootah also and will be moving more of my items over to that site.
I also love amazon.com's marketplace.
After hearing good things about Epier in the Yahoo forum I will be trying them out also. Hopefully soon.
I am so happy that I found this thread. Thanks to all of you for posting, the info you have written here is really helpful. I have bookmarked some of the sites you all posted about and will be taking a look to see if they are sites that would work for me as well. thanks again!!!!!

I really like Old And Sold Antiques Auction. I am a bit tired of Ebay. Lately the fees have been just to high. I listed seven items this month for a total of around $35.00 in fees. I sold one item. At Old And Sold, I can list as many items as I like and it costs me nothing. I also own a real brick-and-mortar type antique shop. My sole income is not what I sell online. I guess my opinion might be a bit different if I was only selling online. I have been able to average 1 to 2 items sold per month at Old And Sold. Not bad. I also like their autorelist feature. I am able to list it once until it sells.

I listed on yahoo til the fees came....their site is not (in my opinion) good enough to charge fees yet. I'm trying to find a good site that get a lot of bids. Thank you to all that have listed sites here, I'm gonna try so out and I will let ya know. By the way for anyone else that list I think it would be good to actually list the URL for some of these site that none of us have heard of. Thanks to everyone.

My favorite site is most definitely EPIER!!!
I love the atmosphere, the people there, the way everyone helps one another, the way people rally together when one is in need (just check out the general chat), the way we get personal responses from support team and I love the way Epier listens to what we want and tries to accommodate us.
Heck, the bids are then icing on the cake! Admittedly, bidding was slow at first when I went there but now I can honestly say, bidding has definitely picked up and things are looking good! AND it's FREE!
My second favorite is Bidville - nice set up, very user friendly. I list there sometimes but not very many bidders there yet for me.
EPIER is #1 for me!!
