Just spoke to Phillip and Yvonne. BidBay should be back in service by 6:30 p.m. EST.
They've been updating and had some database problems.

I hate to tell you, but the back door being open doesn't matter a whole lot to new people or sellers.

Yes the backdoor is open, but it doesn't matter much since you can't post, bid or get auction info.
Everytime you look the time has changed when they will be back up and running.

Well, they're still not up and not being able to get to the front page is useless.
Maintenance should be done at night, preferably after midnight whatever the time zone.
Getting in the back door to read old posts is all you can do. You can't bid, you can't login, you can't do much at all.
Yes, ebay is good to people whose auctions are affected if the outage is over 2 hours. They extend the auctions, but don't forget, you also pay for their services.
I can recall a time ebay went down for days and no one could get in at all. All sites have these problems and some are unavoidable.
It'd be really nice if electronics weren't so undependable.

a sight "going down" and "being upgraded" by choice is two different things. We pay yes, but it is well worth it

Well I happen to know that a special person was hard at work till all hours of the night there last night getting ready for this. I have a couple with bids that will end as well but to me it is no big deal. Anything they can do to clean up the catagories and whatever else they were doing is fine. Like many I sell on other sites and just used today to list and catch up there.

Yes BS I did the same. Let's see if your 'special person' can get the ball rolling so I can get in and MOVE my auctions there.
Every time I blink the time has changed to when they will be back up. They going to be down until April 1 when fees start?

Almost 3 hours after the promised "up" time.
I know there's a difference between it going down and upgrades. It's been said by me, many, many times, that upgrades should be done during the night. The problem with this particular site is, they have no one who works nights. They have to hire techs to work nights.
As with Honesty.com, they had no one working nights, went in one morning and their entire system was frozen due to overheating of air conditioning. It took them days to recover.
Sites that claim 24/7 business hours should have 24/7 techs. JMO~

Pocono,
Who are you talking to? I remember it well, I had 50 auctions closing during that time. Drove ebay billing crazy with all the requests for listing fee credits and I finally got 'em. Also, got some final value credits for auctions that closed with lower bids than I expected.
eBay has had some great fiascos.
New time is now 7:30 p.m. PST, 10:30 EST. They were down at 6 a.m. EST this morning. They're giving the 22 hours a run for the money.
edited to say: OIC, you're talking to reo. Reo, ebay has had worse outages than this. Go to the user to user Q&A board and ask them. They'll tell you!

Time is still 7:30 PST on the home page, which means 10:30 EST, 9:30 in between the east and west coast.
Not a good situation at all.

Please be patient. We are updating our systems. Please try back after 9:30 PM Pacific time.
Can only be patient so long people!

I don't know what time they went down last night, but they were down at 6 this morning, so I would have to say they're headed for a good 24 hours of downtime.
I'm not waiting around to see.
Check back in the morning I guess. If there are only 3 techs, they must be going crazy about now.

I don't believe it is something they intended to happen for so long.
From what I have gathered they began in the wee hours of the morning and it ended up being a bigger job than they realized.

AG2:
Funny how you only now come out of the woodwork long enough to post a positve note for BidBay. Ahhhh, money is good!
Even BidBay cheerleaders should have been upset by the downtime and now they still haven't posted their fee schedule. It is 9 days until they start charging. Gee, the short notice seems to be familiar ~ YAHELL.

deichen,
my post about BidBay is probably a little more accurate than it being a "bad business decision," and not something that is based on me receiving money.
I think it's naive to assume that BidBay is sitting around and thinking to themselves..."let's just shut our site down for the entire day."
I just think it became a bigger job than they had expected.
And as far as the fee schedule goes. I have already spoken to GT about that and I think people will be pleased to find out what he has to say regarding that.
However I will leave it up to him and his admins to release that information.
Assumption is the mother of all flub ups and I suggest if you have any problems or questions don't just post them here but give them a call and ask them yourself.
That's what I do now anytime I have questions and I find it's a lot less stressful and in the end accomplishes more.
