Speaking from experience, radiation treatments take a huge tole on the body. They zap you of energy and make you ill. It doesn't hit you the first couple of treatments you have. In fact, after my first one I thought the treatments would be cake. Boy, was I ever wrong! I don't know how often she is having them, but I had them everyday for a month. Give her time. She may be too ill right now to talk to anyone or maybe she just needs to concentrate and what it will take to get well.
Jane - Know all of us are keeping you in our thoughts, our hearts and our prayers!
Tom - If you do get in touch with her, let her know that she doesn't need to waste any energy coming to this board. We have you. Since you talk to her more than anyone else, maybe you can keep all of us up-to-date and can relay our messages to her.

My mother has cervical cancer 11 years ago and the radiation treatment is like several times a day,her weight dropped from 105 to 68 lbs and she had no appetite.
She lost her hair and suffered from diarhea ever since.
It is no fun and I bet Jane is staying with some one if no one can come to her house to take care of her, there is no way she can tend to household chores while under treatment.
I would not keep calling her ,I would wait to hear from her when she is ready to tell us what she has gone through.

hwahwa - Did she have the radiation implants? I had them about 18/19 years ago. I'm not sure if they were still doing them at the time your mom underwent treatment. But, I can relate to the bowel thing! I've had problems ever since. Mine was cervical as well. I often say that I probably still glow in the dark.

I think so,is that called some kind of radiation isotope?
she used to have diarhea many times a day and she will come out of the bathroom and said she feels like she never empty her bowel.
It gets better as time goes by,someone recommend a baby powder which stops diarhea in baby and it helps.
The Chinese diet contains no dairy product and so no helpful bacteria ,that LAC bateria which helps with the flora,I often wonder if this is the cause of her diarhea since radiation could have altered her flora.
You know C Diff bacteria is often the cause of severe diarhea when someone takes too much antibiotics which wipe out all the good bacteria and allow C DIFF to multiply.
C DIFF-Clostridium difficile

HwaHwa, I know I sound like a broken record and dairy is not usually found in Asian cuisine. Ask your mom to eat yogurt when she has an attack. I've been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis which is an extremly painful syndrome but I've learned to control it through yogurt. During a spasm, where at first you are afraid you are going to die, and later you wish you could die, the last thing you want to do is eat yogurt. Yet. if I can choke a cup down, the symptoms cease within 20 minutes.
I'm prone to discount homeopathic medicine, and continued to be skeptical of the yogurt cure for diarreah. But other medicines didn't help, usually made things worse. Yogurt has never failed me in 16 years.

Was that due to a bad experience or a general distrust? I swear by homeopathic medicine! I also swear by acupuncture. If it weren't for acupuncture, I probably wouldn't be able to use my right arm (torn rotator cuff that I couldn't afford surgery on) and I'd probably still be smoking. I co-own an alternative medicine clinic so I guess I'd better believe in it.
I'll give the yogurt thing a go. Don't know why I didn't think of that. I dislike milk so I rarely get that in my diet.

Cheryl, it's my upbringing. I have tons of MDs in my family. It was very difficult for me to associate yogurt as the cure rather than a coincidence.

Has anyone heard from her? I am getting worried but hope the silence only means someone is taking very good care of her and she is away from the computer and resting.

I got a handful of cards back when she first posted her address, so I could send one a week. I sent one the other day and asked her to appoint somebody to check in here for her if she couldn't. Maybe they are not getting their mail either if they are not at home. I told her we were all worried because we haven't heard from her - other than what tom said.

Thanks Tom, it's good to know that Jane is recovering. She not only has the radiation and surgery to recover from, but the effects of the Lyme disease, which is probably increased now her body is generally weakened. If you talk to her again, please let her know that she continues to be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope she makes a full recover, but I know it's going to take time.

Thanks Tom! I am so glad to hear she is doing well.
By the way, how are you and Ralphie?
