If you can't win a case on the merits, play the race card. Yeah, that'll do it. Well, hopefully not this time. What this boy did to that little girl is disgusting and barbaric. And if it had been done by a white boy, guess what? It would still be disgusting and barbaric! And he would still deserve the sentence imposed. Had this beating been administered to an animal people would be calling for his head on a platter.
No one is trying to destroy this boy's life. He did a rather nice job of it himself, no help required.

The case in England is different from this one as to "criminal intent". Those boys lured the child away with the intent to harm him. In any event, the 2 boys in England were not placed in the adult prison system.

bobbi335- skin color is the immutable characteristic which bigots use to direct their fear
It's also a great way to try to make people who don't agree with you seem like they condone racism because they have a different point of view.

I asked something similar & was never answered, so don't hold your breath! Plenty of white kids are tried as adults & sentenced as such. Not all are from poverty-level families, either. Just what excuses cover them? Perhaps they are only persecuted as adults by black DAs? We should look into this! Racism may indeed be involved...

This case, in which a 12 year old child is
convicted of murder and sentenced as an
adult to life imprisonment is an event that
is unusual to say the least.
In our effort to understand why this case was
tried, why the child was tried as an adult
and then sentenced to life imprisonment,
most thinking people don't just accept the
verdict with no questions.
It would be unusual NOT to consider racism.
It's my OPINION, based on my experience, that
this poor little boy is a victim of the
corrupt court system in Florida.
I have no respect for the Prosecuting Attorney, the judge or the jury.

True. They were given new names and told to "go away", preferably to another country. Like the U.S maybe. And that poor "little boy who was just playing" didnt intend to kill the little girl either, did he? I mean, he only through her around a few times and that wasnt intent, was it? He didnt mean to harm her. And again I ask: What if it was YOUR child who was killed? Im still waiting for your answer.
edited to change him to "her".
And your "poor little boy" routine is getting old.

dubyasdaman- These acts are committed by white kids- it just isn't prosecuted or in the press.
Race in only one of the elements of this case that makes the verdict unjust.
If your logic is consistent, then your "man's" wife, Laura Bush, the first lady, should still be in prison for murder. She ran a stop sign in 1963 and killed a person. But I'll bet you have an excuse for her committing "murder".

I can say with all honesty that had the boy been white I would still feel the same way. If he had tried ONE wrestling move on that little girl, then yeah, it probably was an accident. But when I was 12 y/o and I had continually thrown some little kid around and heard he/she cry out in pain or saw blood or whatever, I would have known I was doing something terribly wrong. What I don't agree with is the "without chance of parole" - there are adults who have committed sickening crimes and some of them still get a chance for parole.

ac·ci·dent (ks-dnt, -dnt)
n.
An unexpected, undesirable event: car accidents on icy roads.
An unforeseen incident: went to college in England by happy accident.
Lack of intention; chance: ran into an old friend by accident.
Logic. A circumstance or an attribute that is not essential to the nature of something.
Car ACCIDENTS are just that. Some from negligence. That BOY ACCIDENTLY threw her around the room MANY TIMES. Now pick that one apart with "but".

C'mon folks- where is your lynch mentality for Laura Bush ?
She ran a stop sign on a clear night, won't even talk about it, and no charges were files against her. Didn't She know right from wrong at 17 ? Didn't she know that running a stop sign kills people? Didn't she know that hitting someone with a car is dangerous ?
C'mon dubyasdaman- where's your sense of justice now ?
She should be in prison for life - the injuries to the victim were horrible. It was murder by your own definitions.

I guess it was by accident that Dalmer ate his victims. Oh, and he was white too and most of his "dinner" was black. Theres the "R" word. Bet ya that he practised wrestling moves too. Laura Bush didnt continually ram her car into that other person either.

Who said she ran the stop as an accident- she ran through it on purpose.
It all comes down to criminal intent, which neither Laura Bush nor this 12 year old had.
Running the stop sign was an intentional act and a criminal act, she knew the stop sign was there, and at 17 she should have known the danger of running a stop sign. However, it was not her intent to kill someone, and neither was the 12 year olds intent to kill.
You folks have really changed your minds when its a rich white lady under fire.

It comes to light about Laura Bush committing "murder" by your own definitions, and now the conversation is disgusting?
The discussion has always been disgusting, but you failed to realize it was disgusting when it was a 12 year old black child going to prison for life for "murder".
C'mon folks, it's Laura Bush's turn now. Where is all the talk about being responsible for one's acts and wrongs ? Where's her life sentence ? She committed a CRIMINAL act which resulted in death and she was 17 at the time.
Where's your indignation now ? Where's your vengence now ?

Gee I've been summoned for Jury duty for next month. Guess I'll get some experience with our corrupt system here first hand.
Were you a lawyer, a judge or did you just serve on a lot of juries here?

I don't claim to know first-hand the intent of the boy. I wasn't in the courtroom to hear and see the evidence.
A jury was however and they determined after hearing said evidence that he clearly intended to kill the girl. And unless you can provide some evidence to the contrary I'll put more faith in their collective determination than in yours unless of course you were in the courtroom too.

KatyD I don't know what the judge's history is in reversals, however, in this case, being found guilty of first degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence. The judge had no leeway in sentencing this boy.
From what I've read, the boys mother, a police officer, had no clue that if he was found guilty there was a mandatory life sentence. I find it very hard to believe that the kid's lawyer didn't tell the mother what he will face if they decline the deal that was offered. I don't know how that all went down.
