Mouse - the Aus dollar has been sooooo low lately - even went below 50c US about a week ago.
Kicking myself that I cashed all my US dollars before Xmas. I thought that it couldn't possibly get lower than the 52c at the time Ah well... live and learn I guess...

I had a bit of US cash and I went and cashed it last week, I made a tidy little profit out of it as well.
I just wish I had more. LOL Oh well maybe when the next payments arrive the $$ might still be down and I can profit some more.

Well... I wouldn't mind but I think that my cat might have a heart attack when she sees all of those animals!!!
I just re-read what I wrote and it didn't come out right LOL!!! I just want to clarify that by animals I meant the cats and dog. Please don't think I was referring to the hubby, mum or dad (or you!)

I'm not sure about the healthcare - lucky enough to never have needed it (touch wood!!!)
Medicare is free (paid for as part of your taxes)

Mouse our health care is pretty good, I have private health cover, but in Queensland we have free hospitals, and all over Australia when you go to the doctor you can get bulk billing through Medicare. Medicare is the one that we pay for through our taxes. If you are on a low income you can get a health care card and that will let you get your scripts filled at the chemist shop for only a few dollars as opposed to the $20 or so that you have to pay for a script if you do not have a Health Care Card.
Do you have to pay for all your hospital care or do you have free hospitals as well??

Well, we're going to have to do something for Mom though. There's no way she could get up from the ground We went to that hip replacement seminar today and it sounded encouraging. But she wants to wait until Dad is gone so he doesn't have to go to a nursing home again. She doesn't trust them after his last stay in one...Speaking of Dad, we found out today he'll probably be home by the end of the week. That's good and bad. Bad because they still haven't addressed his medications and Mom thinks he's having a bad reaction to one or a combination. Good of course because we'd rather him be home

We can put your mum up in the Granny Flat at the side of the House and if we clean out the double garage at the other end of the granny flat you and hubby could set up in there. It is just like a little house with proper ceilings and windows the lot. LOL
We can get Bob up from Melbourne (he can have the tent) and Pharlap only has to come up the highway and we can all have a big party. LOL

Mama Michelle! How nice of you to pop in. And yes, now I know for sure why it's funny I've been meaning to send you an email, hopefully I'll remember before I get too sleepy!
Darn, I was hoping to get the milestone this time, shucks!
Healthcare here is very expensive. A lot of middle class folks don't even go to the doctor until they're very ill. We have sort of free hospitals, but it's based on your income. To get the low income health care here, you have to be way below the poverty line. Mom and Dad don't even qualify and all they get is Social Security income (which aint much!) When I was about 21 or so, I ended up in the emergency room to get 6 stitches in my toe. Even though I wasn't working, they sent my bill to a collection agency. And that was the free hospital!
Scripts here for generic, common drugs run $10-$20, which isn't bad. But if you get anything new or special, it's very expensive. A couple weeks ago I tried to get one of mine refilled and I wasn't covered by my insurance (the check was in the mail, hadn't gotten there yet). It was $72! I told them forget it, I'll come back It's a good thing it wasn't one of my pain drugs!!
It's even difficult to get good coverage through an employer. I'm lucky, I work for a very large private employer so I have good coverage. But it still cost me $65 for each of the MRI's I had to have done (three total). Plus my scripts cost me either $8 or $16, and with the amount I've been on the last year or so it sure has added up! When I had my shoulder surgery 3 years ago, it ended up costing me about $400 after insurance. Not bad, but when you're already on reduced income from not being at work it's rough.

It's a funny thing here in Oz. Many an old bushie will refer to the coldness of the night with the term "It's a two dog night".
The more dogs, the colder it is.

Okay I am back from the shops. Hi Bob, I might be able to dig up a body to put in the sleeping bag with you. LOL
Pharlap, your cat looks like our cat, his name is Fat Cat, and when I saw that picture I thought OMG cause it could be his double.
Are we still doing the Conga, and Bob that sailor is over there by the corner post. I think he is waiting for you. I think that he thinks his ship has come in. LOL hahah
