My first real interaction with Americans was here on AW. It was quite a culture shock.

By the way, Irene, congratulations on having elicited the first "It happened in the Moderator's Corner" defense. Ever since AW nuked that forum I've wondered how long it would be before someone tried to rely on the obliterated posts as a foundation for preposterous claims.

... comments supposedly occurring over several threads, presumably read by all the moderators, and I know by almost the entire OAI world. Yet no poster at all requested my moderation, not even the person making the claim????

stockticker (Hi!)....I'm totally in the dark about what happened with you and.....??

It seems like some people are mad at you, but I'm not sure why. (None of my business, of course!)

I hope you can work it out. I really enjoy your posts!

It was your thread, Terry. You even referred to it in your initial post on this thread.

Sorry to sound so stupid Irene. I know someone was mad at you, but I couldn't quite figure out how it began (by reading through my orig. "Org. Rel." thread.) I know it was something about the word "anti-simetic" (sp.?) and "Jesse Jackson", but that's about it.

Your discussion sounded like it was between 2 intellegent people that weren't able to work things out. I HATE to see people mad at each other, so that's why I brought up this issue.

It looked like spaz was giving you a jab for the whole thing which left me wondering what you did/said that was so bad.

Hope I've explained things right

Terry

Kraftdinner: You're fellow Canadian, right? You need to look up the word in a dictionary. (Spaz was actually being supportive - and I appreciated his comment.)

not to stick my nose in BUT.....
I'm with KRAFT ~ it sounded like an intelligent debate between two people on opposite sides
I, too, enjoyed the posts and perspectives. (I'm just not real keen on the confrontational stuff )
can everybody kiss and make up?
C'mon.

It's difficult for me to understand how anyone could have read the so-called confrontation and label it as a simple disagreement of opinion. Irene was accused of being anti-semitic without any proof whatsoever.

See Irene!!! Shows you how ignorant I am!!!!! Sorry about thinking that spaz's comments were negative, but I've learned something.....don't try to figure out something after the fact!

I have my dictionary right here, but I can't find my glasses. I'll look it up when I find them.....thanks!

Yes, I'm Canadian, but I'm American too (born in Greenville, S.C.).....hope you still like me...

Kraftdinner: Well, I don't know you but Reddeer seems to like you. That's a pretty good recommendation. I also like the fact that you don't know what anti-semitic means.

the bashing and confrontation was ugly and obvious. The anti-semite stuff deserved an apology. I'm not saying that I didn't see it, I'm saying that two intelligent yet stubborn people were on opposite sides and got sidetracked and personal along the way.
Call me an idiot, but I never knew Jesse Jackson was anti-semitic either. OW, Live & Learn.

Thanks Antiquary.....NOW I get it....someone said this to Irene, not the other way around. I didn't see the orig. post where this took place, so I was trying to figure it all out in the "Org. Rel." thread. (Sorry, my brain transplant hasn't taken yet!)

I'm sorry this was said to you Irene and hope the other person can apologize.

And speaking of apologies, sorry spaz for misunderstanding your post!

Oh, I know what anti-semitic means, I just couldn't spell it without my dictionary & glasses. In the neighbourhood where I grew up, everyone was Jewish. The only bad thing I could say about them all is that they were TOO WEALTHY!

Wow, reddeer likes me? I wonder if he meant just as a poster or if he's talking future engagement possiblities??

kraftdinner - I believe many people 'read' posts in a way other than they were intended...just as you did here. Not pointing fingers (please believe that), but just saying others can, and have, read anothers post in a way it was not intended. IMO, this is what happened between stockticker and Stusi.

When I read Stusi's comments to Irene, I was surprised. I have read stockticker's posts for almost two years now and have never felt she was anti-semetic. No way, shape or form has she ever come across that way to me.

I thought Stusi must be mis-understanding a couple of the things Irene had said, and made *assumptions* because of that.

The two things I believe stusi could have read to even think that was, on the URL Helen posted where Irene did a 'tongue-in-cheek' post to networker and, in another, in regard to Irene's stance on France having the right to ban Nazi memorabilia.

But when stusi decided that they weren't wrong, all hope of an understanding seemed doomed.

hepburn - I have seen others say they are leaving a thread and don't feel that necessarily means no one else can comment. Maybe I've misunderstood you? I understood Irene won't be posting, but didn't make any other assumptions.

Actually, I believe that it's wrong to discuss this issue without both Stusi and
stockticker present to defend their position.

I apologize. I meant to convey that stockticker MAY not wish to be discussed, or have this topic continue, per her stating she was leaving.

Carry on if you see fit to do so.

Spaz - Thanks for sharing that thread. Looks like everyone was just having some fun and cutting loose.

The tension here has been thick lately. Many seem to be defensive, myself included. Somehow I just wish we could celebrate/accept our differences a little more.

I just wanted Irene to know that I felt she did deserve an apology since stusi could not show her how (by her words) he/she was making the accusations he did.

Thanks again spaz.

goodnight

Kraftdinner,

I wouldn't take the news that reddeer likes you to mean anything more than that he likes macaroni and cheese.
