tomwiii, you must be the most pompous person I've ever come into contact with!

Well, believe it. If that were not the case, why was the IFCC (and many other federal and state agencies) set up to allow people to make complaints and combat such crimes? Just because it didn't/hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it couldn't happen to anyone else! Don't be so judgemental and have an open mind. If no one could be scammed/conned then there wouldn't be any scammers/cons around, now would there?

The way I see it, your attitude is that of "I'm not stupid enough to fall into that trap, why should I believe anyone else did? well, if it happened to them, serves them right be being so *&$£"@ gullible." Is that about right?

Anyway, you can believe what you like. You're entitled to your own opinion. I just hope there are not many people like you around -- the world would be a really sad place to be.

Yeah...but ya won't catch OLE POMPOUS TOM sending MUCHO MOOLA to EREHWON or THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT or NARNIA or ROMANIA and then because ex-KGB spooks BORIS & NATASHA kept my money and sent me a chain letter!

That was what I just said! You're not as stupid as I am are YOU? Guess not...

Oohhhh, is OLE POMPOUS TOM just a little $%£&^ off? Don't worry you're not the gullible one who got defrauded by BORIS & NATASHA.

Nuff said. I can see your intention here wasn't to help. It may have been too late for me, but not for others.

eemkts and tomwiii,

Your comments are very personal and insulting to another AuctionWatch.com Member. To continue to post in this vein will jeopardize your posting privileges.

Thanks for the warning Joice.

TOM, I apologize. I guess I have myself to blame for being so naive, but I was desperate. Now I know -- only escrow or credit card (with Internet fraud guarantee , of course). Sorry to take it out on you.

Don't get discouraged by the lack of support you've found at this particular post. There really are helpful people out there. I believe that you already knew what you could and couldn't do before you came here. You just needed a place to discuss what happened to you with others and, I think, to warn them. You should ignore those comments made by people who wish to let you know how much better than you they are.
tomwiii: Can you not think of even one thing to add that isn't degrading? People like you make me visit this site less and less often.

eemkts: Sorry for the problems you have been thru.

Experience is the best teacher, and you have learned a lesson in a terribly expensive manner. This does not make you "stupid", but human. Many of us make mistakes that are much worse...everyday!

What is worse...you say?

Treating others with disrespect, is much worse.

Forgetting to take important medication, is much worse.

Blazing forward without asking questions, cuz ya don't want to appear stupid, is much worse.

We all, could make a list that would fill hundreds of pages. The bottom line is:

You were kind enough and brave enough, to share this experience with anyone who cared to read about it. And...without being stopped by those who may belittle you.

I find you to be an incredibly admirable person. This type of incident happens too many times...all over the place.

If an item is very "cheaply" priced, it does not mean it will always be fraudulent, stolen, or a scam. We(Nanabees) offer many great deals.....and have customers ask us all the time...is this for real? And yes, it is for real...we base prices on our actual cost. I may not have but (1) of an item...but it may just be the best deal anywhere else. Our very first customers, may have been called gullible, by their friends...but they are now our best customers and it paid for them to trust us. So....it is hard to know just how to proceed, when buying on the internet.

For every honest seller, I would imagine there are almost as many, who are out to "cheat" somebody. So...do not feel bad.

Good luck with all you do! And thanks for "baring your soul" to help the rest of us.

jca001 and nanabees,

Thank you very much for the kind words and for your sympathy. It really means a lot to people like me who have been victimized.

Yes, there are helpful people out there, you're the evidence.

I have spoken to many of my friends and none of them are aware of it. Yes, all I wanted was to share the experience with others (so they will hopefully be aware that it really does exist and happen) and won't have to go through such an expensive lesson. If you're smart and cautious enough not to fall prey, then good for you! Otherwise, I hope the sharing of many such experiences has helped others who are inexperienced and looking for answers.

At the end of the day, it's only money, and I'm not going to let it get me down. I'm still safe, healthy, and alive.

I've started saving again, and hopefully by the time I have enough, the price will have come down too. So if any genuine sellers out there are selling Canon EOS D30s, I am still looking. But be warned, I'll only pay by ESCROW or credit card.

Cheers.

eemkts, just come back to this forum after remembering my posting a few weeks ago.

I'm sorry to hear you lost £1000 - makes my £400 seem small now! You've definitely got the right idea though - you're still healthy and alive.

I made a formal complaint at the IFCC website but have yet to recieve a response. Could be worth a try as the stakes were higher in your case, though.

On a brighter note, I've since bought a *bonafide* laptop from an auction by a reputable dealer in the UK, using my credit card. Cost 3 times what I lost on the fraud auction, but at least I've got what I wanted now and can move on (even if the credit card repayments are a bit of a sting!).

Andy
