Oh come on, Helen. You were moderated, not martyr-ated. You slammed someone with a curse word (didn't get a warning for it either, as I understand -- which already puts you ahead of the game), then went around boasting about what you said. What do you expect?
I don't mind legitimate gripes, but methinks you doth protest too much this time.
Helen is right. There WAS a system...a series of steps. There is no more. And there have been FAR worse insults around here than dipsh*t. It certainly doesn't require profanity to be vulgar and insulting. In fact, it usually doesn't, in this place.
I'm not griping. I just wonder what the
policy is. I posted the email that I
received and even though I was moderated
I was threatened with permanent suspension.
Whats up with that?
edited to say that I "was" moderated.

Boy, isn't that the truth! I've seen more insulting comments here written with no hint of profanity. Granted, they do tend to be more clever, but all the more insulting when you consider the intellect of the person or persons able to concoct them.

And furthermore, Spaz
I did not start this conversation. I was
just contributing to it by telling about
my experience.
I don't know where I stand at this point.
And I would not dare say the word that you
just said...the d...h word.
Long before you came, there was a moderator named bobmills who told us in no uncertain terms that we are permitted to describe non-AW members as "dickheads." However, we cannot apply that term to suspended AW members, or even permanently suspended AW members. While they may not be able to post here anymore, at least they need never fear being called "dickhead" on these boards.

Hepburn - Obviously we each see things through our own perspective. Here's my take on this.
Since AW has decided to "clamp down... I don't see that they've clamped down anymore than before. I just watched as many posters who did not agree with the changes the PTB made got mad and wouldn't take it to email with AW as was asked, time and time again. So *then* AW started suspending people and WOMDing posts.
and some have left voluntarily and not voluntarily, what is the solution for those still here?
To continue as we always have and hope that some of those who left (either way) will return. As other's have shared, this has happened here before.
For some posters to not like other posters is a given but instead of bickering amongst ourselves, what is the solution to make it not so strict? I don't see it as being "more strict" than before. If one disagrees/debates and doesn't start making it personal, the threads and posts continue.
If the place is falling down around our ears, do we help it along with warring with ourselves? We cannot control the actions of other's, only ourselves.
Do we tippytoe? No, there's no need to do that, IMO.
Do we just stay silent and quietly leave? Stay silent about what exactly? If your talking about the PTB, one email to them stating your thoughts or feelings should do it. If you're speaking about should we stay silent when posters are doing something we don't care for, no. That's what the moderators are for. (I wasn't too susre exactly what you were asking here.)
Do we hang on until there is nothing left to hang on to? Each of us will make that decision for ourselves.
Can we debate with each other without anger and if so, how do we express the passion of the moment where the thread doesn't get locked? By not attacking the individual, but rather the premise they're debating. There are/were many here who have posted for a very long time and have never been moderated, even though they disagreed passionately.
I understand other's don't see this the same way I do. I miss a lot of posters who have left, and will hope some will return. IMO, the changes of implementing charges for services, set off the biggest part of this mass exodus. Then when people started (IMO) slamming AW and the posts were WOMD, users were suspended, and then some saw this as 'heavy handed' moderation. I just saw it differently.
I am hopeful with time, this will once again become a diversified chat board. I'm glad that those who have chosen to remain are still here.
As Diana has already said, there is no "clampdown." If anyone feels a need to communicate to the Moderation Team, or to any moderator specifically, we are available. Just email us. I assure you that you will receive a timely response.
There is one comment I feel I must respond to:
They have made it very clear that how the members feel means nothing.
Nothing is further from the truth. For what my word is worth, you have it on this issue.
Edited to add the word timely.

Perhaps I should clarify my comment. I do realize that the moderators, for the most part, are only "doing their jobs."
I suppose it is the "Bosses" my comment is aimed at.
But, we are still left with the result, aren't we?
"I suppose it is the "Bosses" my comment is aimed at"
To me, the attitude of the "bosses" as you put it, if that attitude is truly as you describe, is less relevent to the posting members than is the attitude of the moderating staff.
In this thread there have been statements by both Joice and Pattaylor to the effect that they , at least, are concerned with those issues which are important to the membership as pertains to this matter which is at hand.
I am willing, given the general honest approach each of them has used with us all over their time here, to take them at their word in this, and I hope that by having made such statements everyone can see that they are willing, even anxious, to take part in an attempt to find a mutually satisfactory result.
good thing I messed up Pat's ubb and not Joice's. I'd never have had the opportunity to fix it.
