I have to admit that my parents very rarely spanked me. If they did it was a message to me that what I had done was so bad that I was the one breaking the contract of behavior between us. The only time that ever happened was when I did something that was a real danger to myself or the whole family.
Like playing with fire.
That said - my mother in law had 4 children.
Three were normal and one raised normal and very seldom disaplined. The one who was not normal seemed to have no empathy - no conscience - and was constantly in trouble and as he got older in trouble with the law and school.
They DID try physical punishment as well as
taking him to psychologists and talking themselves blue in the face.
Nothing ever worked. He got old enough to move out - thankfully before they had any MAJOR legal problems and now his problems are his own.
I feel there is something basically defective about him. There is something wrong with his brain that he can not imaigine other people having feelings and his actions hurting them.
He does have ability to fear but the bar is so high most people can't bring themselves to activate it.
I had one run in with him where he exhibited rage to me and told him in a calm voice that I understood him and why everyone was afraid of him, but if I had to hurt him it would be so bad he would be crippled up enough never to be a threat to myself or my wife again, and that was his first and last warning he would ever hear.
It has been 20 years and he still remembers and believes because he treats me with a very formal courtesy none of the rest of the family gets.
I feel bad for him as he has to be very unhappy, but I won't let him be a threat to us.

"In reference to your Masonic rants earlier, Borillar. You never responded, and I didn't think you could. That's all.

jlpiece as I stated in a previous post, I am not inclined to keep answering your questions regarding Masonry. That is, if they are real questions and not just objections that you've cut and pasted from anti-Masonic web sites -- right? They look like cut and pastes from anti-Masonic web sites, so that tells me that you still do no research of your own, but rely upon what other people have to say. And if they were really something that you thought up, I still would not be inclined to make answer to them simply because I don't have to. it is not my job in life to provide you with an adequate education so that you can converse on messageboards in an intelligent manner. I assume that you are over the age of 18 by now, and so, only God can grant you further amounts of wisdom than what you were born with. Therefore, since responding to cut and paste arguements is nonsense and boring, and I feel no obligation to defend the fraternity at any rate, nor to educate you if you showed sincerity, then you will have to live with the many mysteries that plow the field of your life.

Yeah, I got your cut and paste right here. Not that it matters, but what would you like me to look up for you. I've got the books here. I don't need to cut and paste anything I know more on the subject than you could ever learn. I didn't think you'd care to respond to my assertions, because they are unsquishable. Right is right, wrong is wrong.

When you cease to be cowardly in your avoiding direct discussion on a subject you pretend to understand, let me know. Until then, keep avoiding the questions.

The latest on the ongoing investigation into the House of Prayer:

Love that last paragraph where the pastor says something to the effect of they can take our kids and raise them until they are adults because we are not going to bow. NICE. I don't know about ya'll, but if someone threatened to take my kids, I'd do just about anything to stop it.

Well, if he sent bus fare...

No, krs. Really. Some days I wish they'd give me a break, but they are my world. My real world.

Off to get ready for work.

Oh, Jesus Christ, God Almighty! No need to apologize to lil ole me for your friendly back and forth banter with Krs.

Just don't play games with me or there will be hell fire and brimstone.

How are they coming with their Italian, Terri? Do they say 'Bongiorno!" when you go for eggs?

jt,

I hope that you understand that I am really
sorry that I misunderstood this thread.

If I made any statements that disturbed you,
please accept my sincere apologies.

I'm just a clutz when it comes to religion
so I'm going to try to focus on topics that
I know a "little" something about.

Thanks for understanding,
Helen

I hope you are enjoying some good Mississippi
sunshine. I really miss it sometimes...and
all the friendly people.

Helen, I was actually really enjoying talking with you and I hope that we can do it again sometime. I am always interested in religion/faith/spirituality and enjoy sharing and discussing individual perspectives. It is a difficult topic to discuss without adversity.

Thank you for your kind comment.
Peace.

Terri
