The headline in the Weekly World News: Men Who Marry Ugly Woman Live 12 Years Longer Than Those Who Don't, says a Yale Study. The story: Men with gorgeous wives are so worried about losing their woman to another man that they go out of their way to please her, usually by doing stressful household chores. In contrast, when a man with a homely spouse is asked to take out the trash, "he can just sit on the couch and say, 'Do it yourself.'" According to researchers, "This response, when done repeatedly, can add years to his life."
Just a bit of responsible journalism to kick around.
Wondering how long my hubby will live.

Mornin'
I searched on a couple of lyric sites but couldn't find the words to an old song about 'ugly wives'......it went something like this:
"If you wanna be unhappy for the rest of your life, make a pretty woman your wife, but from my personal point of view, get an ugly girl to marry you."

Here you go LindaK you were close but not quite on the money.....
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall
As soon as he married her and then she starts
To do the things that will break his heart
But if you make an ugly woman your wife
A-you'll be happy for the rest of your life
An ug-a-ly woman cooks meals on time
And she'll always give you peace of mind

Zilvy,
You've probably heard, "Mississippi, the land of beautiful women"...
It's true that we don't tolerate any nonsense from a man. We don't do windows and floors. So it has it's advantages but one drawback is that it is so dam hard to get rid of the men.
That's another angle on this topic.
Helen
Be sweet today, Zilvy...smell the magnolias etc.

ALRIGHT ZILVY!!!! Glad someone around here has a good memory. I tried. Thanks for posting the words.
I used to laugh each time I heard that song. Do you know the name of it? Or who wrote the lyrics? Thought it was appropriate for the article mybiddness posted. hehe

In addition to that little song, I like
the poem by Yeats...A Prayer for My Daughter
an excerpt...
May she be granted beauty and yet not
Beauty to make a stranger's eye distraught,
Or hers before a looking-glass, for such,
Being made beautiful overmuch,
Consider beauty a sufficient end,
Lose natural kindness and maybe
The heart-revealing intimacy
That chooses right, and never find a friend.
Helen being chosen found life flat and dull
And later had much trouble from a fool,
While that great Queen, that rose out of the spray,
Being fatherless could have her way
Yet chose a bandy-leggd smith for man.
It's certain that fine women eat
A crazy salad with their meat
Whereby the Horn of Plenty is undone.

Zilvy - Yes, the one by Jimmy Soul is the one I remember (5-63). I had tried on Lyrics World but was typing in 'Want to' rather than 'Wanna'. With the artists name, I found it quickly. Yes, and thanks from me too for another great lyrics site.
Inner beauty, outer beauty.....Beauty, as they say, "Is in the eye of the beholder".
