Toke,

The idiot thread was locked by the time I got back. (BTW, moderators..this refers to the TITLE of the thread, not necessarily the posters in it...unless the shoe fits).

Equestrian books can do reasonably well. I've picked up a few for my daughter's collection (think she's over 900 & growing now) & I've sold a few of the extras we've gathered along the way.

You might check out the Everything Else: Equestrian Equipment category & see some of the books going on there.

For fiction, it can be a toss up whether to list them in Children's books or the Equestrian Equipment category. When I'm looking for something in particular, I search them both.

Beyond the general Farley, Henry stuff, the more discipline oriented books seem to do better in the EE category.

There's also the Sports: Memorabilia: Equestrian category. I haven't looked around in there too much but I know there are books there as well.

If you have used equestrian clothing/tack, there also seems to be quite a bit of interest in it over in EE as well. Saddles don't do particularly well compared to relative value (good for buyers, bad for sellers), but some stuff doesn't do too badly. Oddly, even damaged/stained clothing goes well, I guess people use it for practice clothes.

Lord knows I spend almost as much on practice clothes as the show stuff!

I will say my observations are that the dressage people pay well for items, followed by the fox hunt group.

Thanks, eventer. I've had those books stashed for quite a while...I'll have to dig them out. I'm sure some are firsts, but I doubt horsepeople care...I sure didn't. Couldn't read enough.

I have a Steuben Siegfried all-purpose (German-made), but when I checked saddles, I couldn't believe the lousy prices. Besides, it's such a good fit...heh. Yes...I do keep thinking I might... I just have to win the lottery and find the ultimate bomb-proof gelding, lol.

Thanks for being so thoughtful. BTW, there's a possible email list forming in the EO...

Oh, yes, first editions do matter. There are quite a number of equestrian book collectors over there. We keep tripping across each other & driving the prices up!

I had to give up & rely on the thrift stores!

Have an almost complete Farley set of first editions, mainly bought at the thrift stores & some flea markets. Working my way through the Henry series for my daughter.

Paperbacks even do well, especially these new "riding club" type ones they've come out in the past few years which are really popular with young girls.

Best to hold onto that Steubben or try to sell it locally rather than ebay. Just won't sustain the prices for a really top quality saddle.

My daughter rides in a Steubben for jumping (though she wants a Hermes for stadium after trying one in Florida). She has a Barnsby for dressage & if she ever outgrows it, I'm keeping the Barnsby & selling her.

We just purchased a big New Zealand thoroughbred for her, so I've been keeping an eye on tack prices over there for her. Some of the blanket prices (the quality ones) aren't too bad as compared to State Line & Dover.

I know the lady who owns the Kerrits line sells her previous season items on ebay. We ran into each other at a show & got to talking about ebay sales.

This might sound odd but if you want to sell the Steubben, you might try the Chronicle. I've contacted people in there when I was trying to get her a second jumping saddle & seen some nice ones & they seem to sell well. I don't recall if the Chronicle website has a marketplace section or not.

I just checked, the Chronicle website does have an on-line advertising section.

I believe equisearch also has a pretty big size equestrian classified section.
