The Egyptians are not to blame; they are the prime, the source. The conveyers of the word. But they feared cats. Cats are representative symbols of alien worlds. Revere them or squish them, it doesn't matter. People anthropomorphize for cats around the world, give them names, think that they love them, but all they are doing is expressing their timidity, just like Egyptians. Cats are nothing, do nothing, return nothing. Some cultures find them good to eat. At least those have found a use for them. Tastes like chicken, sorta'. Maybe better.

Suggesting cancer as a dx for her cat was none to helpful. Just because you do not like cats? What about dogs, or are they just as expendable as cats?

We had a cat that had similiar symptoms. The vet told us that he was allergic to flea bites, wasn't getting the needed nutrients from his food, was becoming anemic and to top it off his kidneys were starting to fail. This cat was into everything food wise, on the counters, table, looking for something to eat. The vet said even though he may have just eaten, he was still feeling hungry because he wasn't getting the nutrients from his food. Even though he would eat enough to feed 20 cats, someone would think we weren't feeding him. You could count his ribs he got so thin. He also wanted ALOT of attention. Needless to say, he got worse and the same day we brought him back from the vet he could barely walk or meow. We had to put him to sleep the next morning. He was just about a year and a half old.
I would ask your vet to check for allergies to flea bites, kidney problems or being anemic.

Forget anthropomorphizing.
Let's leave the egyptians out of this, shall we? There is much better scholarship out there.
My Point....
The measure of grace and kindness is a measure of civilization.
Very simply put: empathy.
I'm not a "cat person," but then again that doesn't mean I should condone abuse or abusive attitudes.
What's so butch about dumping on helpless creatures?

Yes. How true. But being the trusted friend that we all are with our pets when that time comes, thats when we show the love the most. Love always hurts eventually, but doing what must be done doesnt affect the memories we will carry forever of those that had a piece of our hearts.

The warmth of their little bodies.
The softnest of their touch.
The comfort of their presence.
The look in their luminous eyes.
The running to greet you ...even when it
is not mealtime.
The calls, soft and melodious telling you
it's time for bed.
The purring of happiness, just to snuggle and be warm and comfortable.
The lowering of blood pressure just from patting them.
The pleasure of being able to tell you're secrets and now that they are safe.
The joy of watching their beauty.
The fun of their antics when at play, leaping, turning, rolling and just being a cat.
No fear, no anthropomorphizing, no idolatry.. just the pleasure of their company

Thanks to those of you who gave me some ideas to pose to the vet next week. And for your empathy. This cat, and his brother, are all I have left of my life "before" the move up here, and whether you think that is stupid or not, the whole derailing into "check under my tires" was pretty uncalled for.
And now that a thread designed to ask for help has moved into how useless and hated these beautiful animals are - please lock it up. Thanks.
