Feeling that way so early in the morning is
not a good sign. Maybe time to get back
on your horsey and go for a ride?
Telemarketers can certainly create a lot of
hostility. But I have found that with a
caller ID and an answering machine you can
eliminate everything but a couple of rings.

Here we go again with a focusing problem.
The subject is telemarketing.
If you are interested in cartoons, why not
start another thread?

I was refering to the topic, Helen. Got a problem with that? Is a shoe fitting, perhaps? And I will post cartoons here if I like, because I can.

Yes. It can. Great having the ability to cut and paste, eh?

The ability to link and cut/paste can
be very useful. That's true.

Spaz, I try not to be rude to telemarketers, but seems I run across the really obnoxious ones most often. What I hate is RUNNING down the stairs (phone is down, I am up) only to have someone be very rude when I ask who is calling without admitting they are speaking to the one they asked for (depends on my mood, and I normally know its a telemarketer by the silence at first). They will NOT say from which company they are from and when I say "wait a minute", they get more rude and hang up on me. That irritates me no end. Like, Im sure I wanna do business with someone who represents the company with that attitude.

Spaz must not be on line right now or I am
sure that he would come to your aid.

Like Hepburn, I TRY not to be rude (I know this is difficult for some) but I state clearly I do not accept phone solicitations of any kind, please remove me from your calling list to each and every one of them. It always works, I either get a hang up or a "Thank you, I'll do that".
What bothers me about these folks (and I do understand that it's their job) is that they don't know if someone in the home is ill (or even terminally ill) and they may be disturbi ng them greatly or the number they are calling has young children or babies that JUST got to sleep.
affirmation comes from within ...
not at the expense of another.

Hello Nobs. Good to see you again
Helen, I dont need aid from spaz. Perhaps the one that needs assistance is you? Unpicking your bunched smithyriddles might make you less grumpy, ya know.

Me, grumpy? Where have I been grumpy? You just received a warning
from the moderator yesterday, Hepburn. Why do you think that "I" need assistance?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that telemarketing is right. I think it's intrusive, obnoxious and just plain cheesy. It's demeaning to the people listening to the spiel and to those making it (they actually read off a script that anticipates your responses -- If customer answers "no," say ... If customer answers "yes" say ...) It's right up there with the people who try to spray you with cologne in the mall.
My point is, no one really wants to be doing a job like that. But there come times in people's lives when they don't have a choice. They do it in spite of the crappy pay and the hostility because they need the money to get by.
I feel bad enough for anyone who has to do that kind of job. I'm not about to contribute to their misery by being rude. That's all.

I feel more sorry for people who take jobs as letterbomb openers, but even so they chose their path and are responsible for their choices, as are telemarketers.

Hubby and I are up on odd shifts, often sleeping during the day. It's SOOOO aggravating to be woke up by someone trying to sell something! We pay extra for a private number, but they still call. We had a woman call (no kidding) FOUR times in about a four hour period last week. Needless to say, by the fourth call, I was NOT a happy camper.
We've got an answering machine, but we still need to be able to hear the phone ringing. I have elderly grandparents who seem to be getting themselves into predicaments lately (falling, etc. ), and we live closer to them than anyone else. So turning off the telephone's ringer isn't an option.
It's so frustrating knowing you only have "X" number of hours you can sleep, and then being interrupted by salespeople. The phone ringing is bad enough (even if we don't answer it - we do have Caller ID), but the worst part is laying there afterwards, tossing and turning, trying to go BACK to sleep!
