I just came back from downstairs and was telling my husband about this thread and he said last night as he was flipping the channels (and hes GOOD at that..he always has control of the clicker) and there was a show on last where a woman was saying to a man to paint chocolate on her nipples and SUCK it off and he believes it was the Drew Carey show, since it was around 8ish and "that gross guy I cant stand and plays on Whose Line is It Anyway" was in it (which meant Drew Carey). When my kids were home, they didnt go to bed until 9pm until they were in high school, then it was 10pm. What if husband and I were next door? In the kitchen? What if we were at work and a sitter was here and the sitter was watching that crap? Doesnt anyone see whats wrong with this picture? This is xrated stuff, shoved in our throats via our living room. And Im just to "turn off the TV?" I dont think so. I want quality, not smut.

And religious chat boards...let's just throw those in. I read one that in general I like but they have a forum for people that need advice/support. I like to offer helpful support but EVERY OTHER thread is graphic details of who just got through doing the "m" thing and what they were looking at when they were doing it. Jeepers! I have expressed my opinion on one of the threads both about the fact that I blasted have to read the most explicit details without realizing what it's about before I click and also about the topic in general. Discuss it but use TACT. I don't think it's a dirty subject but PLEASE no graphic details of what you did 30 seconds ago! I get the feeling that the young boys like to do it on purpose to get a thrill of being blatent about it...then get "consoled for their weakness".

Hepburn, did you have to tell me about the chocolate? I am editing at leat one thing because I don't want to be guilty too. Reality is too harsh.

Thats what I have been saying, Terri. Nowadays, nothing is sacred and all is open. Every body function is discussed. Every bedroom act is shared with the world. Romance used to be innocent to some degree, and what one did in the bedroom or with a partner was private, and beautiful. Now, its disgusting and snickered at and detailed for all to see and hear, regardless if they want to see or hear it. If some dont like it, they are told to shut their eyes or close their ears or shut it off. How can one shut off what is right there, in your own living room or standing next to you in a movie theater or grocery line, on a billboard or screamed at you from a radio station between songs that are sung for those very same things? Our kids are listening to music telling them to "control your b!tch" or "kill a cop". They are in school, who has metal detectors and they take their earphones to listen to that crap. When they come home, its to a house where both parents have to work, or have full access to television shows with no guidance. But "just shut it off" is the norm now. And they wonder why people "drivel" about something they have no control over when it comes from every side, in or out of the home.

I need to go outside for a cig and cool off.

Lenny Bruce tried to show us that we needed to rethink what was comedy. Richard Prior defied the new comedy as non-stop swear words. Later comedians ran out the shck value of swear words and waded in bodily functions and sexuals acts. With Roseann Barr, we learned that comedy was cruel, cutting remarks and outright meanness. I long for the Bob Hope days when a joke was funny because it made you laugh, not gross out or because the subject matter is abusive. I miss the quick wit of Don Rickles and Carol Burnette. Maybe I'm just too old fashioned and I don't "fit in" with this newer, base humor. As far as I'm conerned, I don't want to.

Borillar: I agree, regarding comedians. So many think that obscenities are necessary--even ones like Rodney Dangerfield for Pete's sake!

What is really ironic is that comedians like Pryor, Goldberg, Poundstone, Williams, etc. are even funnier when you catch them in routines *without* the obscenities. They simply don't need them to be funny.

Well, excuse me for disagreeing with hepburn, enough for her to go outside and "cool off."

I raised two children and my husband and I had to work outside the home. That does not make my children or us bad. As a matter of fact, our kids turned out better and more responsible than the kids down the street whose mother stayed home all day. Our kids were allowed to come to us with questions and received honest answers. The kids down the street were hounded every minute, couldn't ask questions and the stay at home, overprotective mother never answered any questions, leaving it up to their kids to get answers from their peers on the street. My kids, once high school age, never had a baby sitter. I'm sorry yours had to have one (as you stated). As far as TV shows were concerned, they watched what we did, documentaries, educational TV - things like the Discovery Channel, Learning Channel, etc. We didn't have the need for sitcoms. When we watched one, it was usually an old show like Lucy or one of those. I've never had to block a program from my kids, just like I've never had to use cybersitter on the Internet. They didn't have to seek answers elsewhere. It's all in the parenting. A parent can stay home all day and have the type of kids no one wants.

Who made society what it is today? Our age group did! We brought sex into the streets (70's) and changed the ratings for shows. Ever go see a PG13 movie? It's the same as an R rated movie. Don't blame the actors, it's our generation writing that crap for them and deciding which age groups can view. It's up to the parents to educate their kids about these shows. You don't want your kid listening to rap? Tell him! You don't want your kid watching Drew Carey, tell her! They will respect your wishes if you've done your job in raising them. If you haven't, blame yourself, not the kids and not the producers of such crap.

Again, if you don't like it, do something about it. If you can't control it, control yourself and turn the freaking thing off. No one forces you to watch it. You have the power to say no. The less people who watch and use their products, the less popular the show becomes and it goes away.

But don't get mad at me for having an opinion and to go outside to cool off from reading an opinion on a chat board isn't very good for your health. I suggest you put my comments on "Ignore" from now on.

Or better yet, if you only want people to agree with you, say so in your first post. I agree with the fact TV is garbage, but don't agree with not turning it off and then arguing with others about why you shouldn't.
You want quality, watch educational TV.

News just in. As of this week, my state's only official statewide HS Web Site (which is a .org address with the state's abbreviation in the title) was snatched from the homeschool association and purchased by a porn site. (They should have bought the domain name that they have been using for years, YES!)

I got notice from the TN HS Association. They are tracking this trend and it seems that hsing web addresses are being methodically targeted across the nation.

Why would they do this????

Many many hs information pages have links to it as the only site in my state. It will be coming up in web searches for months. The main page is green and white and says NOTHING but "enter" while in the background it spawns more than 10 windows with graphic porn right on the page. As fast as you close one another opens.

Stuff like this is NOT just a "change the channel" situation! What's next? Church domains? School domains? I thought .org was reserved for non-profit groups! This makes me furious.

Wow, jt, it certainly is awful. Wonder why the school or was it homeschooler's association didn't just register the domain name?

I'm not sure about .org being for nonprofit use only, though.

Dont flatter yourself mtnmama, that I had to cool off for your opinion not coinciding with mine. It is summer here, you know, and it IS hot. Being outside is cooler in the evening than stuck in the house and yes, I do smoke on my patio.
Gee, thanks for the info about your family, which I didnt ask to be told, nor want to know. Anymore than I will tell you about mine. I said "what if" in my examples, not facts. I dont share that much on boards, unlike some who trust and it comes back and slaps them in the face, via places like unmoderated boardsfrom someone who misused that trust. Think nobody saw that? Think again.
I chuckle thinking about your "I agree foul language has become the industry "standard" and it's a shame" quote, when most people saw just the opposite from you elsewhere.
I suggest you put ME on ignore since you dont like what I have to say. From experience of reading your posts elsewhere, I know that will be difficult for you.

While I will freely and proudly admit that I love television, there are some things that I don't like so I just don't watch those things! It works very well and I don't try to dictate what someone else should watch even though I know that I'm right and they are wrong.

As an example, I HATE country & western music so I just delete those channels so that if I'm surfing I don't even have to surf through that crap. If someone else wants to watch it, fine, just not on MY tv.

JMO & nothing more...

Sharkbaby, I too "intensly dislike" country western music. And I agree with what you said about not on YOUR tv, lol. Unfortunately, I dont have control of the clicker most of the time. Husband has a firm hold on it. However, I am blessed that he also feels the same way about that music, too.

That's a very important common interest (disinterest?) though!

We have separate TVs as I cannot watch TV with him. It's just the way it has to be!

LOL! Something else we have in common, Sharkbaby. We have 2 tv's also. I cant stand watching tv with my husband because he has to comment on everything they say or do, from what they have on to how they are acting and I cant hear whats being said. We cant garden together either, or do work about the house because he has to have things JUST SO, whereas I am more "leave it, it will do".

How about www.fbc-any major city.org? What would that be worth to buy it back if it lapsed and got snagged? What about www.baptist.org or http://www.lds.org/ or http://www.umc.org/?
The more I think about it, the more it begins to make sense to me.

I really don't care what you read and what you thought as well as who you think you are. You're no better than the next person and even if someone here did call you GOD, you certainly aren't even close.

I thought it was in the CG that mentioning other chatboards wasn't allowed here. I always thought we had to take the problems with those posts back to those chats. I can see where you are special aren't you? You don't have to abide by the rules here.

Why don't you go watch TV. It's much more productive for you than to sit here and bash someone for an opinion. At least they don't answer you back when you yell at the TV. LOLOL!

But at least according to your last post, you can't even get along with your own husband! Talk about telling it all on a public chat! Sheesh!

mtnmama and hepburn,

Obviously, the two of you have personal issues between you. I would hate to see either of you place your posting privileges in jeopardy over what appears to be a personality conflict.

Please, stop with the personal comments and either use your ignore button, or take it to email.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Sharkbaby, I too "intensly dislike" country western music.

Last week, my neighbors, a previously normal couple roughly my own age, began playing country music very loudly from a speaker mounted on their outside deck.

Used to be they played Eagles, Bob Seger, stuff like that, at a reasonable volume. But now they wander in and out of the house, singing along to this crap, periodically punctuating a refrain with a resounding "Yee-haw!"

It's like the Nashville Network dropped off pods in the night and left them beside their beds. I have actually become reluctant to go outside anymore because I dread having to listen to some country music s***poke singing about how "all the gold in Californee is in a bank in Beverly Hills."

They have been my neighbors for years but I don't understand what's happened to them. Were they indoctrinated into a cult? It's bizarre. I fear that if I peered over the fence I would see them dressed like Minnie Pearl and doing the Texas Two-Step on the patio.

Getting back on topic, several times this week I have come close to banging on their door and using some obscene language to express my anger over their lack of consideration for me and other neighbors.

After this forced exposure, I believe that country music could probably be effectively used as a psychological weapon to break an enemy's will. I know the military used Van Halen against Noriega, but country music would have done the job in a fraction of the time.--l

Good evening Hepburn.

BTW I don't love all country music but I'm not afraid to know people who like it and listen to it. Now Ry Cooder is a master of beautiful guitar work and I believe he would be considered part of the country genre.

enchanted, Ry did do Brother from Another Planet. Not country.

Spaz, LOL! My husband called his cousin and I "barbarians" because we were making up goofy country songs. Country Pods!

Everyone at work in Austin, Tx laughed at me because I thought George Strait owned Strait Music Co. on Lamar.

But, OTOH, I like conjunto.

Ry Cooder is a multi-talented virtuoso.

He did the soundtrack to the Jesse James and Frank James movie (I always forget the name of the movie) and I think he also wrote or played on Purty Little Love Song. Remember country-rock?

spazmodeus, you are so lucky that you have country music to listen to. I would take that music over what's popular in my neighborhood on Sunday nights. We have the Spanish Polka played over and over and over and over. Thankfully these neighbors work nights and only have one night off a week!
Now if only we could limit your neighbors music to one night a week!
