Fortunately I haven't lost money through paypal, but after reading all of these posts, I am going to have to find an alternative. I just got out of a bad relationship with another merchang services which left me --900.00$ and totally tapped!
Is there a free alternative for us business owners who don't have the funds to purchase a merchant account? What do we do about conducting business on the net if we can't offer our clients and customers the speed, accessibility and convenience online credit card processing offers? While some of my clients will send a check or money order on request, many want to purchase items right away and won't send money or checks via snail mail. Then what?
I really need a free alternative, and if you've got one, I'd love to hear it.

Here's my Payment service ratings.
Bear in mind that at some point, ALL of these services will charge. There is absolutely no reason why someone else should collect YOUR money, put it in YOUR account and pay YOUR expenses. TANSTAAFL (there aint no such thing as a free lunch). But of course you are free to keep looking at the free ones and changing your auctions to take this new one on Monday and the next new on on Tuesday, as Monday's start to charge fees. And then one day you will wind up with one that will collect a large payment and then go bust and you will have lost a few hundred dollars trying to save a few pennies. Or worse, you could sign up with a completely fraudulent site (a few have popped up) and wind up with some crook having your CC and banking info. So choose a service backed by a reputable company like Western Union, Citibank, Wells Fargo and stick with them.
