I have a question for anyone that has had experience and can answer it. I sold a lamp on ebay for $68.00. I charged $11.00 shipping, and insured it for $75.00. The person who bought it emailed me and said that part of it broke in shipping and was unusable. I went to the post office, filled out the necessary form which requires proof of value. I printed out the ebay page. All that information including the insurance slip that I had when I mailed it was sent to the buyer. They were to take that to the post office in their town with the lamp to get the insurance money. Now they emailed me saying that the post office doesn't recognize an ebay page as proof of value. They are mailing me the lamp back (uninsured so I hope it arrives here) and want me to deal with it and pay them directly. What does everyone do for proof of value for insurance? Anyone else had this problem?
Thanks,
ihula

The Post Office accepted my sales receipt as proof of value. It's easy to print one up. I believe that it is the shipper who has to first fill out the claim, then send it to the buyer for signature. USPS will reimburse the shipper. Expect it to take a few months.

Whenever I have a problem with any governmental agency, I call my FEDERAL congressman AND senator and #*!@ about it and request their help in getting it resolved. When any agency hears from someone with clout, they usually act more responsibly and perform better. I say, "Don't hesitate! Pick up you phone and make the call!"

You can hand or computer type a receipt.
A canceled check works so does a copy of paypal money sent page.
I have received my refunds same time I return the item.
But I'm on good terms with the postmaster at my post office.

You should not panic until you have received your broken lamp and take it with proof of value to your local post office. They may require you to sign an affidavid if that is all you have available. Or you can obtain a signed affidavid from a dealer who would know the value. I have had very good luck with filing insurance claims although they are slow. It is all done by mail if more than $50.
It is not necessary to contact any Congressman or Senator. Best of luck!
