I have been using paypal for over a year now and have had no problems either as a seller or as a buyer. I have always been very pleased.

You know, neither have I had any complaints. On one occasion paypal hadn't cleared a payment after over a week that it had cleared my bank account, so I very politly contacted them and the situation was taken care of IMMEDIATLY. I love paypal and will continue to do buisness with them...hey, it's easier to pay a "fee" for my money then to wait for all those "checks in the mail" (that still haven't gone out if you know what I mean ) So far so good, I just wish that they still had that $5.00 deal without all the new mumble jumbo associated with it oh well.

SStuff,

I was an extremely happy PayPal user for well over a year. I even promoted their service in my auction listings and encouraged others to join and make payments for auction items they had won. I always promoted PayPal as "fast, safe and secure."

My particular problem with PayPal came up when I purchased a laptop computer from what turned out to be a "less than reputable" seller.

This laptop was advertised with specific specifications and my e-mail communications with the seller confirmed the specifications before payment was made. In addition, these specifications were detailed again in the PayPal payment for $530.00.

Unfortunately, the "less than reputable" seller decided to ship a less expensive laptop than I had ordered and insisted on a 25% restocking fee if I wanted any of my money back.

Since this was less than acceptable, I contacted PayPal to process a refund from this "verified" seller that I was unable to resolve the situation with directly.

After a one month wait for their investigation to be complete, I had to repeatedly call their customer service number to check on the status of my investigation. E-mail messages went completely unanswered except for one that kindly sent a list of procedures I had already followed.

Then it happenned... PayPal denied my claim for a refund because they "don't get involved in disputes over the quality of goods received." It seems that if this seller had shipped a box of dirty socks to me, it would satisfy PayPal's "seller protection" policies that an item (any item) had been received and at that point, I would have no recourse through PayPal.

One (supposed) PayPal employee even informed my through a message board that had I purchased a car advertised as a Mercedes and received a Volkswagon, I would have a "dispute over the quality of goods received" and not an outright fraudulent transaction.

If you choose to continue using PayPal (hopefully for small transactions), just be aware that their "buyer protection policies" will not protect you from the outright criminals that also use their service. In fact, they are afforded more protection than honest users!

As the moderator also suggested, please do check out the numerous horror stories involving PayPal in other areas of this board. It should be obvious that PayPal doesn't value their reputation at all and they must be happy to continue finding new costomers to replace those they alienate with poor service.

Good luck!

I too was a very satisfied customer of PP, until I was ripped off by a person on a $540 digital camera (I was 1 of over 40+ victims). Their "investigation" determined that because they couldn't get a response from the thief (DUH!), it was all they could (or would) do and they couldn't help me out.

I had other problems covered in the "Buyer Beware" board here. I strongly suggest you read that thread and take the appropriate actions to protect yourself as you see fit.

I don't know what happened to PP. They once were the best, now they are loosing customers and don't seem to give a darn.

i would not be surprised if ebay will further tighten the screws on dealers-asking for more and better identifications, especially overseas customers and raise the cost of doing business on ebay not so much as listing and final value fee but a good faith deposit.
many ebay dealers own land shops and can produce store address, tax id and bank account information .for those who work from home or so called dabblers or weekend warriors,a good faith deposit .
i sometimes heard some dealers who said they dont trust paypal or anyone to give away their bank account number, they have too much respect for hackers,or they dont want to disclose their home phones to customers because they are afraid of burglars, criminals etc.
have they ever consider the customers, why would any customer want to do business with someone who may not even have a bank account?or a telephone number they can call and talk to and hear a real voice behind the merchandise?
it makes you wonder what are they trying to hide?
also if a dealer is a regular seller of electronic goods, why does he not have a way of accepting credit card outside paypal?
okay,to accept credit card, one must have a merchant number and to have a merchant number, one must have a commercial checking account and to have a commercial checking account, one needs to keep a larger balance in the account.
arent all these cost of doing business to make the business look legitimate, makes consumers feel more comfortable??
i think e commerce is advancing and the marginal ones will be squeezed out.
a lot of these squables stemmed from buyers and sellers ,not middleman like paypal or billpoint or bidpay,if only venue providers like ebay, yahoo and others will become more selective in qualifying the participants.

I am having BIG problems with Paypal.
They have had my money now, from my checking account for 4 days and have not listed it in my paypal account. They do not respond to emails and my 2400.00 is lost in cyberspace. This is not acceptable the way I do business. I needed that money in there yesterday and paypal is not displaying any accountability whatsoever on where that money is right now.

I have a similar problem where I sent payment to a wrong seller (I posted on a different thread). The seller did not receive the payment that I sent. Basically, my money is also in cyberspace somewhere, but my credit card has been charged already.

Still waiting for their investigation... hopefully, if PayPal does not get my money back, my credit card company will.

Hi Wampuscat,

I having a hard time seeing what the issue is(based on comments). Did you initiate an add funds request from your bank account to your PayPal account or request an echeck to be sent? These transactions typically take 2-5 business days to complete, which would exclude weekends and holidays.
