I have been using PayPal since it's inception and have had 100% trouble free transactions. Just recently an online casino whacked my account three times for 100 dollars each (total 300) without my authorization. I contacted the casino and they wanted me to fax copies of my credit cards and driver's license and said they would start an investigation. I refused seeing that THEY made the debits and THEY had all the info. they needed. I got the runaround all day. Finally, I contacted PayPal. The money was back in my account PRONTO and I received several emails from PayPal telling me exactly what was going on. Bottom line - I LOVE PAYPAL and would not consider using another online payment company. I have tried several of the others and NONE has given me the fine service that PayPal has. Long live PayPal!!!!!

Well, either this is that one in a million (everybody gets lucky once in a while) or total BS posted by a mole.
*No disrespect intended*, but the dis-satisified PP customers outweigh the satisfied customers by MANY MANY times. If this is true, it will only be a matter of time before you will also be crying about how they did you wrong.

PayPal is great! I have been with them for two years now and like the person above, have had absolutely NO trouble. Everything they have said they would do, they did. The monies I have had them deposit in my special account I set up for this purpose has always arrived just as they said or before.
I only have one complaint and that is the letter they sent out 'bad mouthing' Billpoint. Just about the time they sent it out, I had begun having more and more buyers using PayPal and saying how much easier and safer they felt with it and I do quite a bit of International Sales. But, for the most part, PayPal is the best.

Paypal saved my account too! I saw an odd charge I hadn't authorized, called Payapl and they closed my Debit Card and issued me a new one in 2 minutes flat. I recently had a Billpoint chargeback that would never have gone through on Paypal - any way you cut it, we're getting what we pay for & more.
I'm redirecting my customers to Paypal and 80% of my payments come in through them now - I'm a happy seller.

I had just left a message about PayPal being do great to work with and how happy I am with them. Well, yesterday, I did some shopping and used my PayPal card to pay for my purchases and it went thru sooooooo smooth. I had wondered what the reaction would be when I first used it and it was as though I had handed the salesclerk cash. Just the same as with my bank card I use. And, when I later checked on my balance at PayPal, how nice it was to see that I was receiving a bonus for using my card. If I wasn't a confirmed PayPal user before, I sure am now. They are the greatest!

I like PayPal in general but as an International user I get very frustrated with it. I am NOT protected the way US buyers are. Thus, I bought something, paid by PayPal and the seller never sent the item. I can't use PayPal to get my money back because I am in Canada. And, Ebay won't help me cuz the SOB who ripped me off has unregistered from Ebay and their fraud protection is only for "Ebay Users in Good Standing". My beef is that PayPal needs to consider a plan for the others who use the system. I mean, come on, when we sell we are paying pretty hefty %'s on top of the regular fees because we are outside the US. Why no protection?

I would never even wear a shirt to advertise a business whom I won't use.
I am glad that somebody is having good luck with PP (some people win in LasVegas too), but they will soon realize that PP is now charging for transactions (remember when they said "PayPal will always be free". ($1 for ea. $25) That can add up fast.

I agree. I have used PayPal since February with no problems. I am not a kigh volume seller yet so my personal account has worked just fine for me. No fees incurred yet, and when the time comes, wouldn't mind paying a small fee to be able to be paid so fast. JMO,ED

I bought some products from a merchant and had him charge my paypal debit card so I could get some of that 1.5% cash back... I had about $1,800 in my account... the merchant charged my account several times until he used up all my money!
The good news is that it was an honest mistake and I called Paypal, they told me to have him call them and in a few hours the money was returned to my account...
The nice thing is since I usually look at my paypal acct every day since I do a few transactions a day, I noticed the error in minutes, not the next month when I get a credit card statement in the mail and then can't remember what the charge was for...
Paypal is an excellent service! I sell more than I buy but when I buy, I hate it when I have to go get a money order... even though I get them free at my bank, it's just a hassle waiting in line... with Paypal, I can pay immediately after the auction has closed and I'm done... plus if there's a problem down the road, both parties have a record of the sale or if there needs to be an adjustment made... i.e. the seller did not mention that the widget was broken...

I for one have had a PP account for a year and a half and had around 130+ transactions through PayPal.. both as a seller and as a buyer (thanks to my wife, more buying than selling) hehe.
We have never had a problem with PayPal at all (so far). Where is a good old wooden desk when you need to knock on something..
I did have one seller that shipped the wrong item to me then ignored my emails requesting correction... I sure did get his attention when I did a PayPal request for my money back.. For that, I have to thank PayPal's service.
It bothers me to hear and read some of the stories (and nightmares) that some of you have had to go through..
This "electronic age" is going through a lot of growing pains and mistakes are to be made.. That is to be expected at times. I know that doesn't help replace the money that you were planing on using to pay the gas bill with.. I don't know about your utility company, but the one's around here don't laugh too much when you try to explain what when wrong with this months payment...
I read in one of these postings where someone said something like "those that have been (hurt) by PayPal out number the ones that have not".. No offence inteded but I rather doubt that.
We, as a general public, seldom pull a manager/customer service rep. aside to tell them that one of their workers did a great job or provided a good service... but if someone messes up, boy do they hear about it.
I for one would like to say "PayPalDamon, so far I think your company is doing a good job and providing a fine service."
To some of the rest of you, you can always go to your local bank and open up your own merchant account to accept credit cards and you can see for yourself just how much they want to charge you..
I think you will find that it is much cheaper, faster, less hastle and safer to go to your local bank and open up a seperate account that you use just for internet business. Keep a minimum balance in it and if there is a problem with a charge back or someone is making unauthorized charges on your account, someone will have to let you know firsthand because there isn't enough money in the account to cover it. You can bet your boots the bank will let you know that your account is overdrawn in a day or so..
Better to find out that way than have the gas bill payment bounce.

I don't know what all the complaining is about. I have been using Paypal for some time now, and I have never had a problem. I had tried a regular merchant account, and the fees were outragous! Infact, I had to agree to a 36 month agreement w/ the merchant account, and have to pay almost $60 a month when I never use it. Paypal's fees are by far the lowest around. And Paypal is sooooo much easier to use! I have even been able to use Paypal for things other than my auctions, and I use my Paypal card to buy gas, food, or anything else I want! Keep up the good work, Paypal! You're the BEST!!

I AM ANOTHER TROUBLE FREE PAYPAL BELIEVER. I LOVE THE CONVIENCE, LOW CHARGES AND NO HASSLE ASPECT. I HAVE RECOMMENDED TO MANY SELLERS AND WILL CONTINUE TO. THEY HAVE WON MY LOYALTY WITH THEIR GOOD SERVICE. MOST OF THE TROUBLES I SEE POSTED WERE CRAPPY DEALS THAT PAYPAL SHOULD NOT HAVE TO EAT. AS SELLERS WE HAVE TO BE MORE SELECTIVE IN WHAT DEALS WE GET INVOLVED IN. PAYPAL SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SELLERS NAVITY. AND I AM NOT A MOLE!!! JUST A FIRM BELEIVER IN GOOD THINGS. WHICH I BELIEVE TO BE PAYPAL.

Way to Go PayPal Believers. Finally, folks are speaking up and out. I, too, an a firm believer in PayPal (see above) and am so glad to see kudos to them. I love going into a store and using my PayPal card and it is so neat when people ask me about it. Love to tell them how great it is.
I first began working in the computer industry back in 1961 - did the very old time key punching and remember the very first thing I was told about computers - They don't make mistakes - only the people that do the inputting make them and over the years, have found that to be very true. We put the info in and if there is an error, it most likely one we have made and not the computer. Today's technology is super advanced over that I first worked with and it is easier to make mistakes but when you trace it back to who did it, it still comes out the individual who put it in was the one and not the computer itself.

I had used Paypal from early on and I thought it was a good service. I used it as a buyer and seller on eBay. But when the "always free" service wanted to make me pay to use it, I stopped using it as a seller. Only a buyer now. Well, like everyone, sooner or later an eBay seller stiffs you. So I placed a claim in to get my money back. After all, the seller was a verified seller and I'm protected. The good news is that the people at Paypal determined that the seller did indeed default on the deal. The bad news was that since the seller didn't have any money in his account, I wouldn't get reimbursed. Could someone explain how this is protection? Can someone explain how Paypal can advertise that it's safe and secure with verified members and can not back it up by reimbursing you whan a verified member rips you off? Isn't this false and misleading advertising and isn't that illegal? Between eBay's joke of a insurance system and Paypal's joke of a system, there is no protection. Which is fine, but why falsely lead people to believe that you are somehow protected. I can't understand how they can get away with this. Really. If they just honestly said whenever you pay anybody money through us there's only one chance in a million that we'll be able to get you your money back, but we will try, wouldn't that be an honest approach?

Hi mikehoover,
I am sorry to hear of your issues with the seller. Our Buyer Complaint process does not guarantee recovery if you are defrauded by a seller....but our verification methods are in place to deter fraudsters from using PayPal as a means of collecting payment.
Things to consider:
1. These items are listed at another venue--there is no way for us to verify the legitimacy of an item being offered at a site.
2. The same thing could have happened with a check, money order, or cash. There would be no guarantee of recovery from a fraudster.
I would recommend:
1. Reviewing the insurance policies (if applicable) at the web site the item was purchased from.
2. Contact local authorities about being defrauded.

Hi paypaldamon. Thanks for the response. This is certainly not the first time I've been ripped off on eBay and I certainly don't hold PayPal responsible for ripping me off. I think that you might have missed my point, though. I personally am off the opinion that your advertising practices lead one to believe that if you deal with a verified member that you are protected against fraud when dealing with that member. This is clearly not the case as I've come to find out. I would highly suggest that you review your marketing practices so as not to suggest that you are somehow protected when dealing with verified members. That is my suggestion. Then, people would not be disgusted by what appears to be a marketing deception. That's all I'm saying. Don't you think that PayPal would draw a lot less criticism if the marketing was more genuineand not so misleading?

Hi mikehoover,
Thank you for the comments.
The web site contains the information on our protection policies, as well as what is covered---I am posting this here for the benefit of other users, so that they can review it if they need to file a claim...
Protection Policies
What is the Buyer Complaint Process?
PayPal's Buyer Complaint Process helps protect PayPal members when a merchant does not deliver goods as promised. If you have been unable to resolve a dispute with a seller, you may file a Buyer Complaint Form (go to the Security Center link in the footer of any PayPal page) to initiate an investigation. PayPal will investigate your complaint and attempt to recover any funds you are owed. You will be entitled to the return of any funds PayPal is able to collect on your behalf. However, fund recovery is not guaranteed.
Additionally, buyers who qualify for eBay's insurance policy (currently limited to $200) may recover up to an additional $200 of protection from PayPal if their purchase was made from a verified PayPal seller.
Please review the Consumer Protections section of our Terms of Use to learn the specific terms and conditions of the Buyer Complaint Process.

Again, paypaldamon, I think you're missing my point. I'll take responsibility for not communicating well and if you will be patient, I will try again so that perhaps we could address the issue that I'm trying to address.
This was in an email that I received directly from Paypal with the title "Making E-Commerce Safe".
"Buying at an online auction or website used to be a risky proposition. Buyers couldn’t be sure if sellers were legitimate, and sellers couldn’t be sure they would receive good funds. PayPal has changed that. Now, with PayPal’s Fraud Protection program, buyers and sellers alike can conduct online transactions knowing they’re protected.
Buyers should look for the PayPal Verified banner when shopping, and be sure to double-check that the seller is Verified when sending money. Your purchase will be guaranteed if the seller doesn't ship.
And since over 2 million auctions on eBay™ and thousands of websites accept PayPal, PayPal is the safe and easy way to take care of all your holiday shopping needs!"
Some people like me may call this a marketing deception. Some less tactful people may say this is a complete lie, maybe because there's not a grain of truth in it. It says "Your purchase [from a verified member] will be guaranteed if the seller doesn't ship." I bought from a verified member. The seller didn't ship. I got nothing from you. What does guarantee mean to you? Is there another meaning of that word that I am not aware of? Your policies are your polices. I've been suggesting that your marketing is deceptive at best and fraudulent at worst. PaypalDamon, based on the claim quoted above, can you possibly see how I might have been mislead into thinking that if I purchased from a verified member that my "purchase will be guaranteed if the seller doesn't ship." If not, could you please explain the alternate meaning that I should have gotten from that. Thanks. I know eventually you will understand my question and will explain this to me.

I can see now that this was all just a big misunderstanding on my part. Sorry about that. Yeah, the original claim was way back on Oct 7th, 2000, 34 days before you reversed your claim. And now, looking at my email on November 11th, I see that I got the following email from Paypal: Making E-Commerce Safe
"Buying at an online auction or website used to be a risky proposition and still is. Buyers couldn't be sure if sellers were legitimate, and sellers couldn't be sure they would receive good funds. PayPal had changed that for 34 glorious days since we last emailed you but then we changed our minds. Now, our Fraud Protection program doesn't guarantee anything so please disregard previous claim.
Buyers can still look for the PayPal Verified banner when shopping if they care to, and they can still double-check that the seller is Verified when sending money but please realize that this has very little meaning and your purchase is not guaranteed if the seller doesn't ship, so no sense in wasting your time, really.
And since over 2 million auctions on eBay™ and thousands of websites accept PayPal, we really don't want anyone to be mislead in anyway, thus the reason that we felt the need to let everyone know that we have reversed our policies so you are not shocked when you actually put in a claim. Yeah, we could have just hid the policy change in pages of legalese and not really mentioned it, but that just wouldn't be right, ya know."
Again, sorry for the misunderstanding. I need to pay attention more and study your site periodically. Take care and thanks for your patience.

I came back to this message center after several months to check out how Paypal is doing. The last time I checked it was not as good. WOW, am I glad the messages are so positive. You see, I have had 100% success using Paypal and I am real glad they provide the service.
As a matter of fact. When I won a bid on a computer in Calif. I paid with Paypal(over $1200.00). When the person B.S.ed me for several weeks and never sent my purchase, I asked for the refund thur Paypal. They said they made it and then cancelled it. Then I had to tell tehm I was reporting them to Paypal and Ebay plus calling the law. Then the Paypal refund came, the company promply went out of business and got kicked off of ebay. Was I glad Paypal existed. If I had to wait on a check I would have never got my money. It has also helped me many times receive payments too.The fees are reasonable and fair to all.
I'm glad to see that Paypal is healthy and is keeping up the good work.
Happy Paypaler
