If you have registered with ehobbies auctions or any other auction site that uses Fairmarket for a user database you may be interested in something that has happened to me.
Recently I received an email from a gentleman that had won an auction and wanted to back out of it. I found this odd for two reasons. I did not have an online auction that had ended recently and after checking the information included in the email, I found that this was for a travel package auctioned on FiredUp.com. It was not my auction but FiredUp.com was telling this gentleman that I was the seller of the auction and included all my contact info.
After numerous emails I still had no answers. In an attempt to get an answer, I posted a message on the ehobbies auction community bulletin board. I posted this message on March 10 and I noticed that on March 13, the message had been deleted. The deletion of this posting has been confirmed with ehobbies. Soon, I came to learn that FiredUp.com shares information with ehobbies auctions under the umbrella of Fairmarket auctions. Other auctions sites also use Fairmarket.
The reason given me by phone on March 13, was there were two separate databases using duplicate auction numbers and the database accessed the wrong information. The people at ehobbies have assured me that this matter has been resolved but I have insisted that my information be removed from the Fairmarket database. I have been promised proof by fax that my information has been removed completely.
