I use these kind of text based counters, and they don't seem to be working at Auction Universe.....

Hi Ross:

I'm also certain I've seen working beseen counters on our site.

To be absolutely certain, I will go cut and paste one and see.

Bye for now... back now (hence the edit)

I placed a banner in my wife's "It'saddam target" auction and from what I could see it took (it showed two counts after I went through the edit auction routine.)

I then went to powersearch and put in the auction number 468522 and lo and behold, the counter wasn't there!

Not to worry. The AU edit function warns you that it may take a little while for the change to migrate to the live database.

I'll check it again to confirm that it showed up. I can say again that I've seen them on our site before and I did spy the one for this edit when I reviewed the edits to my auction.

Hi, Neomax.

Mine don't seem to be working. I am viewing the auctions from here:

http://www.auctionuniverse.com/au/selleritems.asp?sv=1H4K8T8A8K8G5L9L6S6C0039&idx=41&itm=467054&previ=&nexti=&listi=0&listingurl=&catid=4496 [email protected]

Is that the problem? Where should I view my auctions from?

Ross:

You might try reloading. I checked auction 467054 and saw your beseen counter (increment 1) when I looked.

Is the problem that you can't see it or that it is not incrementing?

neomax

PS: The issue may be that you're serving the auction from your cache ... kind of like the problem I have here on the message boards ... It says there are 12 messages but my page only shows 7 :-)

Refresh may make a difference but otherwise, the location you're viewing from shouldn't make any difference.

Ross:

Your counter now shows "2."

I think it was simply a matter of "time" before the edited auction made it to the database.

The question I have for you is how did you make a click on the counter return you to your site (sted of beseen.com) ... Oh... I see, (looking at the code) ... cool.

Right. I go to the auction, reload reload, make the counter display show 2 or 3 or 4 or 5. THEN when I go back, after clearing, it shows 1 again. No this does not happen at the other auction.

In fact I went and visited the auction you stated above, and guess what the counter showed? 1 it should have stated 2....

You like how I re-wrote their code, huh. I don't like to have links that take people away from my site.

Anyway, these counters still seem to be not working. Is it me?

neomax You used a different kind of counter.

I am gonna experiment with the other server that they offer.

Hi Ross:

I see that the counter on my test auction 468522 continues to increment but I also see the problem on your auction 467054.

Could it be that your trick -- changing the link to your site -- is the culprit?

As you pointed out the style of the counter doesn't make any difference.

Frankly, I'm baffled by that but I think my test shows that this counter does work on AU.

There is another suggestion, BTW, that may make it easier to get a count of views without even having a counter show. It is marginally more expensive but Jim at Club99 has a "you-buy" counter that is completely invisible and indeed re-usable, resettable and the whole bit. They last for a year and the code from them doesn't change. If you're interested, check it out at www.isplaza.net

No, your counter worked on your auction because you used the one use code. I am using the multi use code, from the free page, here:

http://www.beseen.com/beseen/free/counters.html

Why is it woring at the "other auctions" but not at yours??

If you would use the same code as I am using, I would like to see an experiment (Not changing the link, ok?)

Hi Ross;

Sorry I missed your post earlier today. Must have been the cache thing.

I didn't even know they had these other counters. I suppose it could be that the two are incompatible for some strange reason.

I mean, after all I'm used to dealing with windows and such mysteries ... well I've relegated them to the same pile of questions of why, if you forget to backup an important document your authoring, the program is destined to crash. Or why Bill Gates still looks like a teenager or why...

I guess I strived to become a Type "B" personality to keep from the hissy fits when PC software crashed. (I bought my first PC, a Commodore 8032 in Oct. 1979.) Crashes, well, were pretty common, not to mention software that was faster than anything else, but still (particularly compared to today, slower than molasses.) It has been a real pain over the years ... nay decades.

Of course, programs of all types -- especially those I've not had to pay for -- continue to let me down. I've lost three emails to browser crashes in the past week ... and they don't keep a backup and ask you if you want it back after the reboot.

Sorry, I don't mean to cry on your shoulder and, maybe I'm just cynical, or its just late but I be d***** if I know why one free counter doesn't work and another one does.

BTW: I think you can set up different accounts/counts using the beseen counter I used. Actually should be the same trick as the other -- change the identifying name.

neomax

PS: Let me get through a pile of work and I'll see if I can do the test later next week.
