Hi all: Last year there was a discussion here in the AU section about cookies. Some folks just don't like them while some like myself, waved the white flag and began accepting them without question a long time ago. Now it seems that just about every site has cookies. Is cookie use now unlimited? Maybe a better way of asking this, is "What makes cookie use objectionable?" Are there any uses, such as the storage of user names and passwords in encrypted data formats, that are now deemed generally acceptable? How about the storage of user preferences for elements such as search or even categories used last for listing? Is it okay if the user knows what is in the cookie? (default preferences unless changed by the user?) Is is just a matter of information? While some could argue that cookies are inherently bad, we also know that they have a great deal of potential when it comes to automating things. Comments please! We wouldn't ask if we didn't want your ideas and opinions? Pat
