geeeesh! thank YOU --- I had NO idea about the SAME auction NUMBER for re-lists, and wouldn't have learned that for weeks. that is a great help for keeping records straight, particularly when one has dups around for listing.

Yeah, but it only keeps the same number for however long it is auto relisting. If it sells and then you relist using the Auction Management section, it will be assigned a new number. But since you can set it to auto-relist up to three times if it doesn't get any bids, it is real nice for it to keep the same number.
