Hi all:

Let me apologize. Apparently the ad in the auctionwatch.com newsletter DID RUN but because of general timing... the newsletter went out on Wednesday and the event was on Sunday... those who saw it failed to act because of the four-day delay.

The information that led me to the conclusion that it didn't was based on emails sent me on the other forum. Users there supplied me with the previous week's newsletter and said that was the latest they had received. Oh well.

The result was that only a few regulars' appeared in the forum to play.

It wasn't a complete bust, however!

Tanya won $100 finding the "Arkansas pea shooter" Supersnipe auction, we had a great discussion on white fonts and how to control auctions that include "hot" search words. (We've got to nip this problem in the bud on auctions.com.)

I did close the other supersnipe auctions. For those interested, though, the key searches came from the discussion topics.

Indeed, one of the search strings that would bring up a winner was "get-rich-quick scheme" ...

Another was "Joliet Jake" ... which was included in the post in the topic about Movie chase scenes.

The key search words for one that Tanya won, was the post that talked about "Your favorite old TV show Joke" ... The search words were "Arkansas" and also, for Beverly Hillbilly fans, "Jethro Clampett".

The final search key word that would have led you to a $100 prize was the "admonition" that "Sometimes it pays to browse the odd or absurd auctions you find."

It would have worked best if you just choose "absurd" as your search.

I really hated not getting to run the "Do you want to be a hundredollariare contest because that one would have been fun if we had a dozen folks playing.

Oh, and if you haven't looked at it yet, you might check out the "MyAuctions" introduction in its realmedia format. You can find that in the thread My auctions tool overlooked by many. http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=14&thread=824

That presentation is live and ready to run.

Have a great weekend and we'll have to do it again some time.

If you have any questions about this, post them here or create your own thread.

As the Beverly Hillbillies would say, 'You'all come back now"

Pat

I just got off the phone with the ad man at auctionwatch.com and he said that while the newsletter was sent, it apparently was not sent to everyone. Indeed, he suggested that the number of folks who received it was "very low."

That's a shame as I was looking forward to meeting a lot of folks and having a good time yesterday.

We may have to try this again.

Hi,
I am new to the forum, but have been a member of auctionwatch for some time. I use auction watch for my images and counters on my eBay auctions.
I just wanted to let you know I did get the newsletter on Wed. I think maybe the reason no one showed up for your game was because the newsletter came out the day before Thanksgiving. Everyone was to busy to pay attention to it till it was to late. I know that's the way it was for me. By the time I could sit down and read it the game was over (canceled). I thought it was a fun idea and would have loved to have played (although I'm not sure I understood how to do it!)Anyway good luck and I hope you have more games. I'll try to catch the next one.

Hi Jhouser1:

We finally sorted out the situation with the newsletter and you are right, some folks did receive it -- but according to the auctionwatch folks only a small portion. Apparently an internal mail server error.

I had made a post over on eBay outlook asking if anyone had received it and no one responded that they had. That post was there at least an hour before the decision was made to cancel the open house. (Several folks reported receiving the edition just prior, BTW

Thanks for dropping by and I appreciate your posting. We will have to do it again
