Does anybody have a list of all the Auction specific search engines, and can tell me which of these search engines have INDEXED THE LISTINGS here at Auctions.com?

Thanks!

Well, I was going to say that AuctionFerret does, but now I have to say "it used to". I was just checking and Auctions.Com comes up with a Connection Refused error when I searched. Which kind of leaves me miffed, because as a seller, I would like buyers to be able to find me in a multi-site search.

Yikes, Tanya! I wonder if ALL the auction-search engines have "AUCTION UNIVERSE" in them, and thus NOT ONLY are not searching current listings Auctions.com, but also they CANNOT search Auctions.com, AND ... I wonder if the folks at Auctions.com are ***waiting*** to update this until they move to the new servers.

This is ENTIRELY *unacceptable* -- as, ya can't even find Auctions.com in any of the major search engines on the web, and now I learn not even in the auction-listings search engines.

SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS NOW!!!!

When will the move be made?

When will ALL search engines be indexed to retrieve Auctions.com as a Search Result?

When will all those radio advertisements we heard about commence?

I know that Auctionferret still has us listed as auctionuniverse.com but that is a bit of programming. They are supposed to have adjusted the search to include us.

I do know what Magik is talking about although I'm not sure the cause, as yet.

I do know that while auction ferret says "connection refused" this is some sort of "misunderstanding" (I.e. we're not trying to pull an eBay by blocking searches from the i.p. address.)

In fact, I've tried the search from the auctionferret standalone (which uses "my ip address" and it doesn't work there.

Again, I am not aware of the nature of the problem but I can't imagine us saying "no" to auction oriented searches.

I tried calling the folks in CT to get a bit more on this but I was sent to voice mail ... It may be tomorrow before I get anything definitive.

BTW: on the search thing.

Most of the recent searches I've done have taken a bit more time than is usual. I think is because of increased traffic on the site. The most likely culprit for why we're not showing up on auction ferret is that we're just being timed out.

While we're talking about search, let me just ask you what you find are the best and worst featurs on all the sites.

The reason I'm asking is that we're not at all happy with out search (either) and we're looking to replace it with a routine that is faster and more robust.

Ya know whadT?

I just tried to do a search over at Auctions.com, and it kept saying that the search index was corrupted, so maybe (?) that is the entire difficulty, today! Who knows?

Radh:

I saw that error message earlier when I was trying to see if anyone else does the & in their title. I did a search on Slazenger and it came up slowly (earlier.)

I did the search again a minute ago and it was just fine. Then I started auctionferret's standalone search and it worked fine there, too.

I have asked them to change the offering from "auction universe" to "auctions.com" and I'm hopeful they'll do it soon.

Hi there!

Say, do you know if Auctions.com is indexed in other auction-listings search engines, too?

And, the SEARCH is now working fine for me, too!

Radh:

Yes, we are. I know that biddersedge has several of our categories and so does Ruby Lane and other sites either are or are planning to include us.

Our attitude and approach is to be in as many of these types of searchs as is feasible. We've been a little reluctant to push really hard in this area because our search tool as it stands is a weak sister.

Well, I heard about the last ten seconds of the radio advertisement. Did not like. But didn't hear the whole thing yet. Initial impression is that I hope they didn't spend much money on it. LOL!

I've only located about half a dozen auction listing search engines, but suspect that I'll discover many more at http://bots.internet.com

Scads of them!

No FAIR, Radh:

I've not heard the radio spots yet!

Oh, I did notice that we're in the Biddersedge search, BTW. Did a search for the Slazenger golf clubs and the one's listed on AC (auctions.com) showed right up!

We've got some things that I hope come together that will be quite exciting, BTW

I feel a little like a kid who has a secret and is dying to tell but "can't". Anyway, it is a good one

I'm a buyer not a seller, but to add my 2 cents . . .I'm pretty sure that bidders edge has a listing of all the sites that they cover and i think they search auctions.com. I use them pretty much all the time. Their great becuase they search so many auctions. It's great for a purchaser anyway. I hope this helps some of you to sell your items quicker.

Happy Holidays!

Hi CAV;

Actually, Biddersedge does search us pretty much completely as does auctionferret. We've had discussions with auctionwatch and my understanding is that we had asked them to hold off searching us until we completed our move to exodus (a the biggest backbone on the Internet).

We're also going to redo our search tool overall and expect to make some effort to accomodate those who search remote to our site.

At this point we are seeking inclusion in the external searches.
