Error 240: The item cannot be listed or modified.
* The item cannot be listed or modified. The title and/or description may contain improper words, or the listing or seller may be in violation of eBay policy.
Occasionally I get this error code. I usually resubmit with no further problem and always considered it a minor annoyance. I now get this error when I try to relist almost anything. I left an item in pending with this error and would appreciate it if you could look at it and explain what is going on.

Hello Dave,
The reason for the error is that there is a reference to checks and money orders in your listings, which is now a banned eBay payment method. Please remove this reference by going to "My Account" --> "Global Preferences" --> scroll down to the "Custom Payment Note" section and remove the reference to checks and money orders. Please let us know should you continue to have trouble with this after making that change.

In global preferences I only list paypal. That is an old item offering. It was my understanding that any other payment types would be stripped off the old auctions in order to list them.

Hello Dave,
Any banned payment types that are selected in the "Payment Types Accepted" section will be removed automatically. However, any text where you have entered the payment methods will not be removed. This particular reference in your account is in the text that was entered into the "Custom Payment Note" section of the Global Preferences.
