So these new requirements for Google search - does that mean that used stuff will not appear in Google search anymore? I wouldn't have a clue how to get a hold of a UPC code on a 20 year old used item. Am I missing something? And I don't even know what a MPN code is.
MPN is a manufacturer's part number. According to the Google announcement, in their FAQ's, they state the following about used products:
"We require all items except those in the apparel and one-of-a-kind category to include valid product identifiers irrespective of the condition. Seller of the item has the responsibility of including valid identifiers for the items included in the data feed."
Note however that Google also states that it is not required on apparel and one-of-a-kind items where a product identifier may not be available.
If however there is another seller selling the same item as you are and they have specified a product identifier, Google may opt not to display your product as a result (though the feed itself wouldn't be failed, so the rest of your items would still appear.)
