Hi:
Please Help. I am trying to luanch a new listing to Ebay.
Problem, is that the Categories (Drop Down Menu) on the Auction Manager Listing Form is BLANK. The categories are not showing. Is this just happening to me, or is anyone else having this problem.
I even looked up the correct Auction Category Number and inserted that, but when I try to launch I get an ERROR:
(See Copy)....The following message was returned from the scheduler while attempting to list your auction:
The venue ebay has possibly returned the following message:
Error 87: Invalid Category.
The category selected is not a leaf category.
What does this mean and why is the Drop Down Menu Under Categories missing.
PLEASE ANSWER ASAP BECAUSE I HAVE A NUMBER OF NEW AUCTIONS THAT I WANT TO LIST AND I DON'T WANT TO STOP USING AUCTIONWATCH.
Thank you.

Hi Jzwarren,
We updated categories to match the category changes on eBay on Friday. Try logging out and logging in again, and starting a new listing. Also check and make sure you have java script enabled in your browser. Let me know if you still cannot get the listing to launch.

Dear Sonja:
I did log out and did a relog. Still no categories showing. Are they supposed to show with the change?
I even turned my computer off and did a cold boot and then relogged in. Still not able to launch an auction because I cannot get a Category. What now?
Please answer your soonest, because I use Auction watch for all my listing and tracking. I need to list new auctions and I don't want to have to go back to listing through Ebay.
Thank you....Juhne

Hi Juhne,
What browser are you using, and do you have java script enabled? Have you always been able to select a category from the drop down menu, or did this just start recently happening?

Hi Sonya:
Thanks for the speedy reply. Please don't leav me now.
I am using Internet Explorer - AOL - I went into Settings - Control Panel - Internet and yes as far as I know I do have Java Script enabled.
I usually list as many as 150 auctions a week through Auctionwatch (I was sick last week so I only listed about 50) no problem. I have always had a selection (drop down menu) in my Auction Watch listing page until now.
Please tell me if I am doing something wrong. I list quite a bit and I am doing nothing different.

Hi Juhne,
What version of AOL are you using? If you are using AOL 7, did you just recently upgrade to it?

Hi Juhne,
Can you let me know the category number you tried to enter in the auction that errored out, and the page that you got it from? Also, if you can, try to create a new listing from the Create Listing link and click on the top category. Then wait a couple minutes for the categories to load, and let me know if you are able to get any to appear.

Sonya:
I have actually copied Ebays Category listings (see Below) I am trying to list under category 1404 LAMP, LIGHTING

Top > Collectibles > Furnishings, Knives & Tools
Current || New Today || Ending Today || Completed || Going, Going, Gone

Locks, Keys (1474)
Phonographs (1315)
Radios (5744)
Scales (473)
Telephone (1655)
Television Sets (231)
Tools (7271)
-------------------------------------
Also, I am trying to list under (see actual Ebay copy below...SCONCES 13868
Top > Collectibles > Furnishings, Knives & Tools > Lamps, Lighting
Current || New Today || Ending Today || Completed || Going, Going, Gone
Candle Holders (763)

Please answer I really am getting very frustrated.

Sonya:
I FINALLY GOT THE AUCTION TO TAKE...CURRENTLY ACTIVE...BY ELIMINATING CATEGORY 1404, LAMPS AND LIGHTING.
THAT SHOULD BE A VALID CATEGORY (EBAY RECOGNIZES 1404 AND YOU DO TO..I WENT INTO YOUR HYPERLINK AND THE 1404 WAS LISTED)HOWEVER, I WAS TRYING TO LIST IN 2 CATEGORIES.
MAYBE I CAN'T LIST IN 2 CATEGORIES AT THE SAME TIME, WHO KNOWS. I AM NOW GOING TO TRY TO LIST THIS AGAIN, NOT IN 2 CATEGORIES..JUST ONE UNDER THE 1404.
I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.
JUHNE
STILL NO CATEGORIES LOADING.

WHY WON'T THE CATEGORIES LOAD????

Hi Juhne,
Can you give me the URL of this page? I need to know where you are obtaining 1404 as the Lamps and Lighting category because that isn't the correct category number. There are now subcategories for that field.

You list this yourself on your new listing page..look below, I didn't type this, I copied it from your page..this is copied from your own hyperlink that says:
"Click here to look up the category number. for your item If you are having trouble using our category menu."
Lamps, Lighting (# 1404)
Candle Holders (# 4062)
Ceiling Fixtures (# 13862)
Flashlights (# 13863)
Lamps: Electric (# 4053)
-----------------------------------
Also, Ebay lists it:
http://listings.ebay.com/aw/plistings/list/category1404/index.html
I have wasted soooooo much time today trying to figure this out. Finally, through trial and error..I got only 2 auctions listed. I cannot afford this amount of time for a listing.

I realize that there are sub categories...
I listed it under a sub category of SCONCES 13868 but I also wanted to list it under the main catedgory of 1404.
I have always done this in the past without a problem.
I am going to try to go into Ebay and list with them under this category number. If I can do it in Ebay, I should also be able to do it in Auctiowatch.

Hi Juhne,
I see what page you are on. You will need to list in the subcategory at the end of that category tree. There are more categories in lamps and lighting, you will need to pick one.

OK...but, why aren't the categories loading???
I will need them for future auctions, I don't want to have to go into Ebay to find the Categories.

Hi Juhne,
If you aren't clicking on the top category then the list won't load. Try doing that and let me know what happens. Also if you haven't already done so, clear out your browser cache.

Hi Juhne,
When you attempted to list directly on eBay, did the auction fail? Please let me know what happened, if you were able to get it listed.

Of course I have clicked on the Top Category. Please look at the quality of my Ads. I really am quite savvy when it comes to the computer.
The Categories just do not come up no matter what I do.
1. I have clicked on the Top Category and just got a blank menu with lines.
2. I have waited 10 mins for the info to load (never does)
3. I even tried right clicking and hitting the refresh (nothing changes)

Hi Juhne,
The problem would have to be with JavaScript as that would be the only reason why you cannot view the categories. Try using Netscape and let me know if that browser is any better for you. If it isn't, let me know what version of Netscape and what version of Internet Explorer you were using.

Sonya:
This is so strange because I have never had a problem before. I still do not have the categories showing when I use Internet Explorer.
Guess what, I tried Netscape as you suggested and the Categories were there. However, I prefer to use Internet Explorer, it seems faster to load and react than Netscape.
Regarding the JavaScript: This is what I did, please tell me if there is another way to make sure that I have Java Script enabled.
On my Start Menu, I went into Settings - then Control Panel, then the Advanced Tab, then went down to Java VM and saw that Java Console Enable was checked. Also, I have JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled was checked.
If there is another way, please tell me.
DID YOU CHANGE SOMETHING FOR BROWSERS WHEN YOU CHANGED THE CATEGORIES ON FRIDAY?
Thank you,

Hi Juhne,
Go to Tools in your browser, to Internet Options. From there go to the Security tab and click on the Custom Level link, and make sure you have java script enabled.
Please let me know what version of Internet Explorer you are using.
